Gingerina
23 may 2016 10:09

This is the story of how we made a portrait of George Wurtzel, a blind artist. It was the first portrait ever that he could feel and recognize as himself. The sculpture by Andrew Myers is made of 4,000 hand-painted screws. Warning: you might want to cry (but in a good way!).

Gingerina

I just want to wish happy holidays to everyone with a couple Christmas-themed dog portraits that I took. Every dog deserves a Christmas present! Sometimes people get confused seeing these kind of pics, so here’s a disclaimer: we took these photos with LOVE, therefore no dogs were harmed in the process. They were not forced, they did it willingly for tasty bits of super delicious treats. :)

Different people have different ways of coping with depression, and for Edward Honaker, that coping mechanism is his self-portrait photography. His photos turn his depression into something that can be seen and, hopefully, better understood.

Legrange was inspired to shoot the series by his cat, Dwiezel. Understandably, he said that the hardest part of this project was getting the animals to sit still so he could get the shot he wanted!

Many of us see animals as human beings’ equals, so it’s only natural that some photographers see them this way as well. Vincent Lagrange, a photographer in Antwerp, Belgium, captured the human side of animals by taking serious and dignified portraits of the sort that us humans like to take of each other. His photo series is called “Human Animal.” “I tried to photograph the animals as humans, depicting their emotion and human-like characteristics in a sombre way,” Lagrange told Yatzer. And...

Mali has been my companion for 5 years. In these 5 years, he has already had to go through 3 operations. And yet he is a happy, more alert dog who drags me with his good mood every day.

Photographer Katie Joy Crawford has wrestled with anxiety disorder her entire life, which is why she was especially qualified to create this gripping photo series showing us what it’s like to live with this burden. “Anxiety bars the sufferer from the risk of discovery, the desire to explore new ideas, and the possibility of exiting a comfort zone,” she writes in the description of her project, ‘My Anxious Heart.’ “It makes sure that it will never be alone. It finds you when you’re in the...

Clownville, a photo series featuring grotesque portraits of terrifying clowns, is the photographic nightmare of French-born photographer Eolo Perfido. Perfido says he was inspired by silent film stars like Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, who were forced to exaggerate their emotions because they were unable to speak.

Overlooked Black Dogs Get Adopted With Beautiful Portraits
Gingerina
11 feb 2015 11:03

Black dogs can have a tough time getting adopted from shelters – perhaps because low-quality photos don’t do their adorable mugs justice. Guinnevere Shuster, a photographer who works with the Humane Society of Utah, is trying to change that with a beautiful (and remarkably effective) series of portraits taken to show just how lovable black dogs really are.

Artist-architect ‘Red’ Hong Yi creates stunning works of art without the help of a pencil or paintbrush. Instead, she uses unconventional materials to form larger-than-life portraits that are impressive in both their technique and scale. 20,000 stained tea bags make up her most recent composition featuring a “teh tarik man,” which is a common scene in her native Malaysia. “Teh tarik” means “pulled-tea” in Malay, and it’s a sweet and milky drink served in local cafes that becomes frothy when...

French artist Bernard Pras, who is known for creating mind-boggling anamorphic illusions out of found objects, unveiled his latest installation at Le palais idéal in Hauterives, France. When viewed from the right perspective, a seemingly random pile of trash is revealed to be an enormous sculptural portrait of Ferdinand Cheval, a simple French postman who spent 33 years stacking stones to construct Le palais ideal.

Optical Illusions Portraits

Optical illusions is just a fancy way of saying eye trickery, except it’s bigger words and harder to spell. This is a series of cray cray portraits, chock full of optical illusions aka eye trickery. The kinda stuff that’s gonna make your eyeballs be all “WAIT WUT?” and your brain say “This is too much for me to take in, I need a nap.” And is that what you want? IS IT? The person responsible for this madness is Ukrainian artist Oleg Shuplyak. Great job, Oleg! I mean, seriously? My eyeballs...

Paris-based photographer Alexandre Bordereau (aka aRe-y0u-iN) features silhouettes of anonymous people artistically adorned with splashes of white paint for his B&W Portrait series. The unidentified individuals in the self-taught photographer's ongoing collection are all faceless shadows that manage to evoke different emotions through body language and carefully placed embellishments that makes each portraiture seem like its own universe.
