Artist Turns Old CDs Into Amazing Sculptures Instead Of Throwing Them Away
Gingerina
24 jan 2017 12:42

A broken CD isn't much good to anyone. Unless you're Sean Avery that is. Because while most of us would just throw them in the trash, the South Africa-born, Australia-based artist turns them into various dazzling animal sculptures. He makes them by gluing CD shards to wire mesh frames shaped like different animals, and as you can see from his iridescent animal kingdom, there seems to be no limit to the types of creatures he can create.

Kristi Botkoveli and Beka Zaridze are two self-taught artists who create art that is magical and mystical. Number 24 has a special meaning to Nancy and Beka, it is the date when they first met. When people ask them how they got the idea of using leaves as canvas, they answer - from love. They were walking together at the park during autumn, when Nancy picked a leaf, they looked at each other and knew exactly what they were supposed to do.

After getting a new and bigger apartment a while back, Thomas Krahn needed something to hang on the large, white walls. Being a student he didn’t have the money to buy the art he liked. Instead, he bought a canvas, paint and tried painting something himself.
The doodles from his elementary school notebooks featuring huge, flying fruit, astronauts and weird orbs quickly found their way back into his art alongside his love for the Danish countryside.

You could be forgiven for thinking that these portraits are photographs, but believe it or not they’re actually drawings by Italian artist Emanuele Dascanio. Some of them take up to 780 hours to complete, and it’s easy to see why when you look at the artist’s amazingly lifelike creations. He draws them using a combination of charcoal and graphite and the subjects are often illuminated with a single source of light.
