Pirelli Calendar 2013
25 dec 2012 07:34
VICTORIA'S Secret model Adriana Lima has become the first person ever to appear in the Pirelli Calendar while preganant. Snapped in Rio de Janeiro by photographer Steve McCurry, the 2013 edition sees Brazilian beauty Adriana posing in a black cropped top, her bulging belly clearly on show. The 31-year-old undies model gave birth to baby Sophia in September, after the picture was taken in July. And in another break with tradition, every one of the 11 women pictured is fully clothed - a far cry from raunchy previous calendars.

China: Capitalism and Communism
25 dec 2012 07:41
China’s communist leaders are promising to revolutionize the world’s second largest economy and move on from being the world’s workshop. Unlike most communist governments, China’s one-party state has survived by embracing capitalism to deliver new wealth. Chinese officials recently reported they would reach their target for annual economic growth of 7.5 percent this year despite the impact of the global slowdown. Leaders hope this recovery from its slowest period of growth since early 2009 could cement a cyclical rebound in the country.

Where Fruits Grow
26 dec 2012 07:59
In botany, a fruit is a part of a flowering plant that derives from specific tissues of the flower, one or more ovaries, and in some cases accessory tissues. Fruits are the means by which these plants disseminate seeds. Many of them that bear edible fruits, in particular, have propagated with the movements of humans and animals in a symbiotic relationship as a means for seed dispersal and nutrition. In many parts of the world, humans and animals have become dependent on fruits as a source of food. In this post, we celebrate the plants and trees, that the fruits many of us know and love, come from. Hopefully there’s a few that you haven’t seen before :)

Green Snake of Manhattan
26 dec 2012 08:01
The High Line was built in the 1930s, as part of a massive public-private infrastructure project called the West Side Improvement. It lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains from the streets of Manhattan’s largest industrial district. No trains have run on the High Line since 1980. Friends of the High Line, a community-based non-profit group, formed in 1999 when the historic structure was under threat of demolition.

spiderman lizard

One has to wonder whether this lizard's spider-senses are tingling. For the reptile bears more than a passing resemblance to the Marvel comic superhero Spiderman. The lizard's amazing red and blue markings are strikingly similar to the suit worn by the crime-fighting, web-weaving daredevil. And - as the reptile was captured crawling around on his rock - he appeared to strike an identical pose to Spidey's favoured crouching pose.
