HAPPY MADDEN RELEASE DAY EVERYONE. It's a big event for the video game and sports industries alike, as well as for people who own $250 DeShaun Foster jerseys and aren't above going to Walmart at midnight to pick up a copy (guilty). Our own Dan Seitz already wrote his defense of Madden NFL 25, but I want to take a look and listen to something that's much tougher to defend: the first Madden EA Trax soundtrack. It came back in 2002, when Marshall Faulk graced the cover of Madden 2003, and I'm already sorry for all future Audiovent references. For everyone who hasn't Eternal Sunshine'd Audiovent, though, let's go the tape.

Czech car manufacturer ŠKODA, best known for bringing us The Manliest Stroller EVAR, is back to jack up something new — an ice cream truck. Enter The World’s Biggest Ice Cream Van (EVAR!!!!), a 5 1/2 ton, 21 foot tall monster truck with 5 foot wheels that serves ice cream. Well this certainly beats the hell out of my neighborhood ice cream truck. A, it’s not even a truck, it’s just a van with all the seats taken out. B, they play Christmas music all year round. Do you know how it feels to hear Jingle Bells blasting over some shitty speakers while you’re sweating in your own apartment, but you’re too lazy to peel yourself off the sofa and go get an ice cream? Hell. It feels like hell. And a little bit like irony, but in the Alanis Morsette sort of way.

Miley Cyrus is apparently ratchet now, and her attempts at twerking seem to suggest she is really trying to mean it. As we sit back and watch her try to ingratiate herself with the hip-hop community, let’s take a moment to think about what could’ve been if Miley had been around during the ’90s and early ’00s and discovered rap when some classic albums were released. Fantastic Manipulations Performed Before The Golden Age Of Photoshop (23 photo)

You’ll rarely see a photo today that hasn’t been manipulated, generously enhanced or overlayed with dozens of filters, but in truth this has been happening since the dawn of photography itself – its just that the process of manipulation has evolved. In the early 1800s and even through to the 1900s, if you wanted to alter your photo to create an illusion it was an incredibly labor intensive process. There was combination printing, photomontages and even overpainting – all took time and all had significant drawbacks. Which makes the following collection of fun and somewhat illusory photographs all the more impressive. They were created during an era where you genuinely had to be measured and considered in how you were adapting the film negative itself. There was no magical ‘undo’ button, just lots of trial and error and trying to adapt the technology as best you could. But its safe to say, thanks to the creativity of those involved, all of these images bear little resemblance to their original photographs – it’s amazing what a little magic can do isn’t it?

'Selfies At Serious Places' Shames Photographers (11 photo)

In the near future, all photos will be selfies. It's best to accept this inevitability now. The front page of the New York Times. A picture of Barack Obama taking a selfie with Karolos Papoulias? Sports photojournalists will be obsolete, having been replaced by athletes whipping out their cellphones and snapping a quick shot while running for a touchdown. It's sad, but it's true, and already, the negative effects of the selfie are being chronicled on "Selfies at Serious Places," which aims to shame the kind of people who, well, see above. THUMBS UP FOR GENOCIDE.

As if it wasn’t bad enough for us guys that Parks and Recreation actor Chris Pratt was out there, bragging about how shredded he looks for his leading role in Guardians of the Galaxy, now we’ve got former teen heart throb and current 20-year old heart throb, Nick Jonas, posting his own shirtless selfie on Instagram, all in the name of “fitness.” The youngest Jonas Brother prefaced his photo with the caveat, “I never do this but…” to which Huma Abedin rolled her eyes and said, “Heard that one before.” But Nick is actually an inspiring idol, as he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 13-years old, and he has done a great deal of work to raise awareness for the disease, both through his own Change for the Children Foundation and with a variety of other organizations. Maybe next he can start a foundation for insecure bloggers who swim in their t-shirts. For other people, I mean. Not me. I’m ripped, too. Shut up.

Texas-based artist and animator Robby Cook has illustrated Disney princesses, villains, and other characters as elemental benders from Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. Jasmine is depicted as a firebender with her lightning tiger Rajah, Mulan is a member of the earth-bending Kyoshi Warrior clan, Pocahontas is appropriately an airbender, and Ariel is a waterbender. Surreal Floating Room Sculptures by Leandro Erlich (8 photo)

Like a scene from a fantasy movie, a dilapidated room that appears to have been literally ripped out of a building remains suspended in mid air above Nantes, France. Its walls were torn apart, revealing bricks below the plaster, and wood floors reveal the joists inside. The floating room is accessible via a ladder. The gravity defying surreal installation is the work of Argentinean artist Leandro Erlich. The large-scale piece, called “Monte-meubles – L’ultime déménagement” (literally - The Furniture Lift – The Ultimate Moving Out), was created for the biannual Le Voyage a Nantes, an art festival which turns the entire French city into an art gallery.

Star Wars: Episode III was in my opinion the best of the prequel trilogy even though Darth Vader's Frankenstein "Noooooooooooooooo!" moment was absolutely ridiculous. Concept artist Sangjun Lee has released a really cool collection of concept art from the film showing off several awesome designs done for the production of the film. Love them or hate them, the prequels still looked great visually, and the art created for it is beautiful. Check out some of it below!

Just like the rest of us, visual artist Emily Blincoe is partial to the odd sugary indulgence but whilst we’re all unwrapping and munching on them, she’s opted to create this wonderful collection of visuals titled “Sugar Series”. In it, she’s carefully selected all manner of different types of confectionary and then organised them solely by colour. Apple greens, tangy oranges, citrus yellow and raspberry red are just a few of the colour schemes she’s used. The end result is a selection of colourful boards brimming with delicious items that almost look too good to eat.
