When Melora Rivera woke up to a strange man in her Venice, CA, home, she acted with lightning speed. Rivera planned to hide until she could call the police, so she stealthily made her way up to the roof of her house, phone in hand.
As Rivera dialed 911, a bystander named Alexandria Thompson looked up and saw the attacker climbing up onto the roof. Thompson began snapping pictures, posting them to Twitter.
Less than five minutes later, police arrived to restrain the attacker, a 29-year-old mentally ill, homeless man named Christian Hicks. He’d been seen by neighbors wandering the area earlier in the week.
Hicks, charged with burglary, is currently in custody.
