Werner Freund, 79, is an ex-paratrooper who for 40 years has hand raised and lived among wolves at his sanctuary in Merzig, Germany. The magnificent creatures, naturally feared by any man, all behave playfully and submissively towards Werner, who has over the years exerted his dominance in the pack. At feeding time, Werner must ensure he continues to feed first and disallows any of the hungry and salivating wolves to come near, in order to maintain the respect of the pack. It is for this reason that they do not attack him and, instead, lick his face and act playfully when they are not feeding.
Bats have been pretty trendy lately. At Zambia’s Kasanka National Park the bats are absolutely out of control. If you're a bat lover, this is the place to go sometime in October, when all the creepy little creatures come out of the trees to party. Sad thing is, there are so many in once place that some fall too close to the earth, putting themselves in danger of being eaten by larger carnivores.
"Chris P. Bacon" is the name of an adorable little 4 lb. piglet who has no use of his back legs.
Thanks for veteranarian Dr. Len Lucero, he can now get around on a dog style wheelchair that was custom built out of K’NEX pieces. According to the Toronto Star, Lucero acquired Chris P. Bacon from a young lady who brought the handicapped piglet to his place of work (Eastside Veterinary Hospital in Florida) and did not know what to do with him.
Watch Chris P. Bacon in action in the videos below or follow his challenging journey via Facebook and Twitter!
If there is one complaint that viewers have, however, is that the wheels seem too light for Chris. However, the vet has since weighed the wheels down by about two pounds, and the wheels work better now. At some point, he will graduate to a larger wheelchair donated by the group known as Handicapped Pets.
Fellow animal lovers and Vegan friends! It's time to start a new kind of yoga!
Yoga is already meant to resemble nature, but imagine a studio where all the poses are based on photos of animals stretching in odd positions!
Take your pets to yoga, it's encouraged! Taking inspiration from nature isn't a new thing, it's been around for ages. What could go wrong? Who's in?!
Animals have been used in war for a long time: ever since we learned that sitting on a horse was faster than running. These ten examples show some of the more unusual ways we’ve used animals as weapons of war over the years. And just as a note, this doesn’t include blatantly heinous tactics like strapping bombs to dogs—those people should never be honored. All of these entries are unique either for being ridiculously awesome, creative, or just, well, sort of bizarre.
The Latin word decimate means to reduce by ten percent. We will now look at previously not thought of invertebrate (spineless) creatures that will at the very least decimate your body through bone crushing bites, damage your flesh or annihilate you through burning, drowning or terror in truly awful attacks.
Got a fat dog? Need a way to make that pooch get fit and quick? Get your pal a skateboard! These guys are loving it, I'm sure yours will too. :D
If you're a cat lover you probably agree with me when I say that cats are just like people. When they say "curiosity killed the cat," they really just mean that cats are getting in trouble for the same kind of drama as we humans are!
Enough pretending that cats and dogs get along! All these "odd couple" photos surfing the net are just a bunch of sappy people wishing their dogs and cats would get along. This is real, this is war!
Now trending in animal photography are the "look at me" portraits. Best done with two unlikely friends liek a cat and a dog, horse and bird, etc.
Is this cute or cheesy?
The president of Turkmenistan Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov who is known for his excellent horsemanship has recently announced a national beauty contest for horses, which will be held every year in April. In fact there is a horse of the ancient Turkmen breed called the Akhal Teke, which is known as "the wings of the Turkmen" residing in Turkey and is considered to be the most beautiful horse in the world. It looks like it came straight out of a fairytale. This horse breed is very elegant and has the shiniest metallic coat. It's thought to be one of the oldest breeds on earth. Currently there are only 3500 of these horses left in the world. It will most likely be the winner of the next competition.
Even if you're not a sports fan, this is too cute to resist.
Puppies playing football even comes with an award! This time adorable Marta was named as the star of the game.
Who did you like best? :D
It's been proven that Mozart's tunes can change the behaviour of plants, boost the IQ of newborns, and help your hyper active dog stop chewing up your shoes while you're out. Here's a tip for those with nervous pets; leave some classical music on while you run your errands and see the difference after one or two weeks.
If you've ever had a dog, you probably know all about how much they love to stick their faces out of the car when you're driving around town, or even on the highway! A dog's nose is so powerful that they just can't help to try and sniff all of the awesome scents of the neighborhood.
Recently, photographer, diver, and shark expert Chris Fallowsshot some truly amazing photographs of a large Cape fur seal hunting and eating several blue sharks off the coast of South Africa.
He says, "It may be that there are not many photos of this happening, but that doesn’t mean sharks cannot be part of a seal’s normal diet. Cape fur seal can weigh up to 700 pounds. It’s a question of size. If you are smaller than me, I will eat you."
In either case, it's pretty awesome that this actually happens in nature!
A compilation of awkward and hilarious cat poses. Are they really comfortable sleeping or just sitting like this???
For most dogs, a kennel is made out of a few planks of wood and some rusty nails. But Wellington, a two-year-old St Bernard, is living it up in his very own brick-built house with carpets, working lights and insulated walls. It even has a gravel drive complete with patio stepping stones and ceramic statues.
Totally bald and all alone, it's no wonder that this baboon has such a long face. The four foot tall hairless female was found wandering around the African bush by a British housewife in Zimbabwe. While she should be with her sociable troop of baboons out looking for food, this poor animal appears to have no friends.
Dog lovers around the world know very well the tricks their lovable fuzzies pull on them for a treat or two. A dog's cute face is something nobody can say no to! Just look at those eyes!
On a side note, did you know that humans percept cuteness as the ratio of eye to face size?! That is why celebrities with big eyes always seem cuter, babies look cuter than teens, and why you can't seem to say no to your pet when he makes the doe eyes at you!
Just how accurate is Puxatawney Phil? Yes, that is his name. Every February 2nd, the plump little critter decides on the season to come. But with global worming on the rise, the meteorologist might just be at a loss.
If he sees his shadow, we will get six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t see his shadow, we will get an early spring. This year Phil failed to see his shadow on this Groundhog Day 2013. According to the Groundhog legend, that means an early spring! On the other hand, according to groundhog.org, Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow 100 out of 116 times. That doesn't sound like he landed the correct answer all 116 times...
According to Stormfax.com, Punxsutawney Phil has only been correct approximately 39% of the time. Yeah, so I guess we won't be paying much attention to this guy anymore.
Much like the photography of people sneezing, when animals sneeze it's a photograph worth framing up in your guest bathroom or game room.
