Last weekend, Reuters photographer Carlos Barria traveled to Zheijiang Province, China, to photograph some of the 1,000 Harley Davidson enthusiasts who attended China's 5th annual Harley Davidson National Rally, part of the company's 110-year anniversary. Harley Davidson only began official sales in China in 2005, and its bikes are considered to be luxury items by Chinese tax authorities, so they are taxed at extremely high rates -- a 2013 motorcycle might sell for 200,000 yuan ($32,500), approximately four times the average annual salary in Beijing. Transportation authorities have also placed Harleys in the same category as electric bikes, horses and bicycles, so they cannot be ridden on highways and major avenues.
On April 22, 2013, the Century Chest, a time capsule that had been sealed for 100 years, was opened during a ceremony at the First Lutheran Church of Oklahoma City. Reder Hoekstra is a Dutch artist who has caught my attention with his absurd, super creative, weird and beautiful work. This is the gist of his inspiration, "I'm inspired by the world and reality I see around me. How does it all work, what is truth? My mind floats through landscapes and dreams, and from it, new machines, creatures and things find life." Try and see what thoughts and feelings each of his pencil drawn pictures provokes. I'll write my thoughts on each, since I couldn't find their names.

Luke Chueh's pieces are really cute in an eerily disturbing way - and that's exactly why they're so great. Featuring sad and/or tortured characters, Chueh's work stems from the intolerance he suffered as child growing up as a Chinese-American. Luke was born in Philadelphia, but raised in Fresno. In 2003, Chueh moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in design. Since then, Chueh has quickly worked his way up the ranks of the LA art scene, establishing himself as an artist not to be ignored. Collected here are fifteen of my favorite paintings from his portfolio.
The Wheel House is a live performance in which two acrobatic performers entertain audiences with the slow-paced rolling travel of their mobile home. The interior space of the circular home is designed to look just like a normal house, with doors, windows, curtains, pots and pans, and even a bed. The project is produced by Acrojou Circus Theatre, a group formed in 2006 by artistic directors Jeni Barnard and Barney White. According to their website, the team has so far created six original shows, toured within nine countries, and performed to nearly 60,000 people.

“Beardvertising” is a brilliant idea thought up by Lexington, Kentucky-based advertising agency Cornett-IMS allowing men with fuzzy beards to earn money by placing miniature billboard-like ads in them. A&W and Eagle One are both on board to support this genius ad concept. Whit Hiler of Cornett-IMS told Business Insider, “We’re getting a ton of emails from guys with epic beards that want to host beardboards and we’re actually in talks with some brands that want to be Beardvertisers. I think we’ll probably be seeing some beardboards in the wild before too long.”

Ohio Born, Scott Scheidly who started his path towards becoming an artist at the age of 4, ate a lot of paint paste throughout his childhood apparently, and graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh is quite peculiar and seems to have a great sense of humor. His paintings don't seem to be overly complicated with depth, however there's something vibrant, funny but tragic, and definitely original about his work. I liked this statement he made on his website, "I still live in Florida where I enjoy floundering about and painting pretty pictures, and I still eat paste now and again just to remind myself of my roots and how I ended up like this. Some day I hope not to be famous." Check out his awesome paintings.
This is just too cute to pass up. You've been warned!
Sexy movie bikini scenes anyone?! I'll have an order. Enjoy your Monday.
