Life on the Road
29 jan 2013 08:19
About 4,000 people live in the four apartment buildings that straddle the Trans-Manhattan Expressway on the approach to the George Washington Bridge. The New York area has no shortage of places where public transportation and private housing overlap in the most voyeuristic of ways. Commuters lurching toward the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel may wonder what it is like to live in the houses that line the highway approach to the tunnel. Passengers aboard the Metro-North train near 125th Street in Manhattan or the No. 7 subway near the 52nd Street station in Queens may find it impossible to resist peeking into the apartments that are barely an arm's length from the tracks.

The Hopes of Millions of Immigrants in US Might Become Reality
29 jan 2013 15:00

The possibility on a reform on immigration is giving immigrants in the US have a new ray of hope.

CNN reports, "Millions of undocumented immigrants would get immediate but provisional status to live and work in America under a compromise plan proposed Monday by a bipartisan group of eight senators. While temporarily removing legal uncertainty for the nation's 11 million undocumented immigrants, the senators' outline also called for strengthening border controls, improved monitoring of visitors and cracking down on hiring undocumented workers."

"They would no longer be deported, provided they don't have a criminal record. They would no longer be harassed, they would be allowed to stay here and work," said Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York in describing the immediate impact of the framework if crafted into legislation and enacted.

The Moment You Fall

Photographer Kerry Skarbakka has created some seriously mind blowing self-portraits in which he appears to be falling. Of course, he's not actually puttig himself in life-threatening situations, as he is using safety riggs, but the process is pretty freightening nonetheless.

The images stand as ominous messages and reminders that we are all vulnerable to losing our footing and grasp. Moreover, they convey the primal qualities of the human condition as a precarious balancing act between the struggle against our desire to survive and our fantasy to transcend our humanness."
