This Incredibly Cool Chromatic Typewriter Types Out Art
12 apr 2013 12:12
It’s odd concept to grasp, but imagine being able to physically “type” out an artwork…. Well, it’s not that far from reality, thanks to conceptual artist Tyree Callahan. He’s the ingenious individual behind the Chromatic Typewriter, an artwork that began when decided to pull apart a classic 1937 Underwood Standard typewriter, replacing its trusty letters and well-worn keys with colour palettes. For each letter of the alphabet, he allocated a specific hue – the theory is that by tapping them in various combinations, the ‘writer’ can create some truly vivid and peculiar art. So WOULD it actually be possible to actually type out your own art rather than painting by hand? The truth is, sort of.

Fire-Breathing Dragon Bridge in Vietnam
12 apr 2013 09:56

The coolest bridge ever! On March 29 officials in Da Nang, Vietnam unveiled the Dragon Bridge, a dragon-shaped steel bridge that is complete with a fire-breathing head. The bridge’s 1,864-foot-long continuous steel arch doubles as the body of the dragon, with the tail at one entrance to the bridge and the head at the other. At night, the body is lit by more than 2,500 LED lights, and on special occasions, the fearsome dragon head releases giant plumes of fire or jets of water.

America After 25 Feet Sea Level Rise
11 apr 2013 09:52

To visualize the effects of global warming, artist and researcher Nickolay Lamm created photographic renderings of American tourist destinations as they would appear with a 25-foot rise in sea level. To create the renderings, Lamm digitally manipulated stock photos using data from sea level rise maps. The sea level could potentially rise 25 feet in the next few hundred years unless dramatic cuts are made in pollution.

David Letterman Grilled Lindsay Lohan Until She Cried
10 apr 2013 14:39
Is it cool to say that Lindsay Lohan earned some of my respect last night? Probably not, but I think she did. As much I might want to bag on her right now, the fact is that it had to be hard to sit in a chair next to Letterman — who has rightfully cracked hundreds of jokes at her expense over the years and held nothing back last night — and endure what she endured, most of the time rather graciously and with a smile on her face, until, that is, the end, when she finally began to break down a little after Letterman praised her for having “enough spine, enough sense of yourself, enough poise to come out here and talk to me.” Frankly, watching a broken person squirm on stage under the bright lights made me kind of sad.

Henry Box Brown: Forever by Wilmer Wilson IV
09 apr 2013 12:26

Last year, performance and installation artist Wilmer Wilson IV conducted a series of three public performances, collectively entitled Henry Box Brown: Forever, along the streets of Washington, DC. For each performance, the artist covered his entire body with a single value of postage stamps, with increasing values for every journey. He then walked a planned distance across the city to a post office and, upon arrival, would request that he please be mailed to freedom. The project was inspired by the story of Henry "Box" Brown, an American slave in the mid-1800's who escaped to freedom by successfully mailing himself in a box from Richmond, Virginia to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The project was commissioned by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities (DCCAH), for the 5x5 temporary public art initiative created to enliven neighborhoods across the District.

Bryan Singer Tweets New Look For Beast in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’
08 apr 2013 14:41
Director Bryan Singer sure isn’t shying away from giving ‘X-Men’ fans news and info about his next mutant movie, ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ on Twitter. Late Friday, Singer tweeted a photo of what looks like a new rendition of Beast, the brilliant blue-furred scientist played by Nicholas Hoult in 2011′s ‘X-Men: First Class.’ Don’t worry, Beast is still blue, but he’s looking a lot less feline than he did in ‘First Class,’ which we’ve decided is a good thing. This subtle change was probably made in order to allow the actor to emote a little more from under all that hair and makeup. Singer previously took to Twitter to reveal the names of several ‘X-Men’ movie franchise members who would be returning for ‘First Class,’ including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Aaron Ashmore, and Hugh Jackman. Tell us what you think of the new Beast.

Hilarious Story about Amanda Bynes in a gym Class
08 apr 2013 13:50
Amanda Bynes was allegedly kicked out of a New York gymnastics class for showing up in an outfit comprised of fishnets, a wig, and a lingerie-like leotard. Of course she denies it — and given that there’s no video footage, we’re inclined to believe her. Because come on — if Amanda Bynes showed up at your gym, wouldn’t you just turn on your cell phone’s camera and wait for the inevitable hijinx to ensue? Sources told Page Six that gym staff became worried when Bynes was “muttering to herself,” and that she “burst into tears when she attempted a cartwheel and her dark-colored wig fell off.” “She lined up with the other gymnasts, and each took their turn to perform a roll. But Amanda just walked out on the mat, was spinning around in circles and mumbling to herself,” added another witness, who claimed Bynes had been acting strangely since her arrival. The story continues that Bynes was eventually asked to leave the class, which she had also attended the week before, because the staff was “concerned about her manner and worried she might be a hazard to other people in the class.” In response, Bynes took to Twitter threatening to sue anyone reporting the story as true, because she has been a little litigious lately.

Ray J Shows His Kanye Envy & Kim Kardashian Thirst in ‘I Hit It First’
08 apr 2013 13:32
When you have nothing to offer, you make a sex tape. When you have the name recognition from a sex tape but nothing else to offer, you get a VH1 reality show. When you finally realize you’re completely irrelevant save for the same last name as a B-to-C-list singer, you release a song about your sex tape partner who got you your reality show. Cue non-entity Ray J’s new single, ‘I Hit It First,’ about Kim Kardashian. “She may move on to rappers and ball players,” Ray J eloquently croons on the song, which features a pixelated photo of K.K. on the beach in 2008, “but we all know I hit it first.” Yes. We do. Which means this, this and this are your fault, bro. Other charming lines? “I had her head going north and her ass going south / But now baby chose to go West / No matter where she goes or who she knows / She still belongs in my bed” and “Girl if you come back to me / We can make another movie.” The song is essentially attacking Kardashian for daring to sleep with or date anyone other than the rapper, because God forbid a girl upgrade. On the bright side, we bet both of Ray J’s fans really dig this song.

The Urban Cave is the powerful documentation of homeless men and women in West Harlem by Andrea Star Reese. Formerly a filmmaker, Reese began this project when she enrolled in the photojournalism documentary photo program at ICP. One of her assignments was to capture “New York Underground”, which consequently led her to a train tunnel nicknamed the Batcave. There she discovered a complex community of people; Chuck, Lisa, Krissy, Snow White and Country, that operated much like a family. Reese was allowed to witness their stories as a mutual trust was formed.

David Neevel put a cool twist on writing emails as he invented a system that allows him to write emails using his electric guitar. Neevel works at Wieden & Kennedy advertising agency so this invention could be a publicity ploy but its still pretty interesting. Check out the video and see for yourself. Like the idea?
