Say Hello to the DeskBed
19 feb 2013 15:34

Space deprived college students and city dwellers will appreciate this desk that converts into a bed. The compact unit takes up little more space than a large desk would but it also houses a bed. The interesting thing that I like about this is that there is enough clearance with the bed down that you don’t have to remove anything from your desk. Now you can have your cake and eat it too.. I mean... sit in bed and do your homework...

The Bell 47 helicopter is lavishly decorated with ostrich feathers and thousands of rhinestones. The interior features intricate woodwork, gilding, and custom upholstery embroidered with Marie Antoinette’s initials. Cereals From 1980's You Will Never Taste Again

From the movie tie-ins, to lure of toys and video games right down to the fluro artwork and brightly colour fonts, having a bowl of sugary cereal wasn’t just a snack in the 80′s, it was an experience. But trends and fads come and go and thus, these classic boxes, limited edition designs and unusual flavours have all been consigned to the rubbish tip of pop culture history.

A Chilling Look At The Fashion Of The Ku Klux Klan
18 feb 2013 11:52
They are one of the most infamous minority groups in US history having formed in 1865. The Ku Klux Klan (commonly known as the KKK) are an extreme group who value white supremacy / nationalism and who are fiercely ant-immigration and multiculturalism. They’re instantly recognizable from their white pointed hoods, designed to hide their identity & invoke fear amongst locals. Many of them operated & orchestrated night attacks in rural towns where they were prone to being recognised by their vicitims. “The kind of thing that men are afraid or ashamed to do openly, and by day, they accomplish secretly, masked, and at night.” With this method of disguise, both the high and the low could be attacked. They would frequently burn down the houses of African American’s, shooting, beating, raping or hanging them at will. They even suppressed black voting in Southern states, with over 2,000 individuals killed, wounded and otherwise injured in Louisiana within a few weeks prior to the Presidential election of November 1868.

It’s photographs from that show which we’re featuring below. We think they’re startling, magical and jaw-droppingly beautiful in equal amounts. But the Canadian-born 31 year old has defied all the odds, knocking down every barrier and obstacle in his way. With the support of his family & friends and through sheer willpower, Spencer has proved the doubters wrong by achieving the impossible. He climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. He spent over 12 months in intensive training, making sure his arms and hands were strong enough to support the extreme physical pressure they’d be put under. It took him a grueling 7 days to make it to the summit, he traveled only using his hands for a stunning 80% of the trek and with his two best friends by his side willing him on – he helped raise an incredible £300,000 for the Free the Children charity. If you haven’t already guessed, we’re huge fans of the humble “Animated GIF” it’s recent revival and reinterpretation as a form of art, has lead to some seriously ingenious and other worldly uses. Like bringing 22 Of Your Favourite Album Covers To Life, recreating Famous Scenes From Sci-Fi & Fantasy Films and even coming together to form a music video. Don’t even get us started on these 24 cinemagraphs featuring the work of Stanley Kubrick. So you can imagine how excited we were, when we stumbled across a Tumblr photo blog called “40Licks” (clearly the artist is a Rolling Stones fan) and saw they’d been creating and sharing some really mind-blowing animated GIFs. But perhaps best of all and in the spirit of making something new out of something that already exists, you can even upload your own image and ask them to create a GIF for you. Now THAT is seriously cool. Here’s a few of our personal favs from their collection, but head over to the 40Licks Tumblr account for even more eye-candy goodness.

Superb Elephant Sculptures Made From Driftwood
17 feb 2013 15:45
Driftwood, nothing special, if you go the beach it is a common occurrence as it lazes on the shore being washed back and forth by the incoming waves. South African artist Andries Botha has taken this simple, raw material and given it a new life, transforming it into beautiful installation piece You Can Buy My Heart and My Soul (Ungayithenga inhlizyo nomongo wami in the original Africans). The work comprises of a family of elephants and is an elegant and majestic addition to the coastline of Belgium. Andries had this to say of his incredible work. Botha worked with a team of 10 African artists who laboured over the figures to create accurate and hauntingly lifelike renditions of the creatures which from a distance could fool anyone.
