Just as a dog might proudly present a squirrel to its owner, Scotland-based photographer Rowan Corkill created a series of images in which he presents a collection of dead animals to his viewers. Corkill has always been interested in old antiques and taxidermy objects, taking what most people consider junk and transforming it into photographs like this unique series, entitled Portrait of a Species. Each self-portrait features Corkill with a blank stare and a dead animal in his mouth. He produces a squirrel, a large black crow, and even a rabbit to his viewers, blurring the lines between human, animal, predator, and prey. In much of his work, Corkill is interested in the history and memories that are held within old objects. He enjoys producing collaged work, pairing things together because he says, "I love the freedom and randomness of chance that is created through collage as well as the lack of extreme theory and meaning (which is always nice!)”
Last year, performance and installation artist Wilmer Wilson IV conducted a series of three public performances, collectively entitled Henry Box Brown: Forever, along the streets of Washington, DC. For each performance, the artist covered his entire body with a single value of postage stamps, with increasing values for every journey. He then walked a planned distance across the city to a post office and, upon arrival, would request that he please be mailed to freedom. The project was inspired by the story of Henry "Box" Brown, an American slave in the mid-1800's who escaped to freedom by successfully mailing himself in a box from Richmond, Virginia to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The project was commissioned by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities (DCCAH), for the 5x5 temporary public art initiative created to enliven neighborhoods across the District.
Greg Pembroke, a 32-year-old father of two boys under the age of 4, has seen his share of temper tantrums and decided to share his fatherhood experiences through a single topic blog called Reasons My Son is Crying. What began as simply posting pictures on Facebook for family and friends has turned into an internet sensation through Tumblr. The blog, which most parents could relate to, primarily features images of Pembroke's 21-month-old son Charlie throwing a tantrum, though 3 1/2-year-old big brother William also makes appearances with his crying fits. The two boys can be seen sobbing over anything from simply witnessing a block cheese being split in two to, ironically, demanding to see a picture of themselves crying. Each image is also accompanied by a hilarious caption by Pembroke that playfully emphasizes the unpredictable nature of his sons' meltdowns. Even when the doting dad is trying to protect Charlie by providing a pillow to cushion the tiny tot's head, the toddler reacts by bawling. Sometimes, though, even Pembroke admits "I have no idea why my son is crying."

It took musician Gary Skaggs two years to build the 320-pound three-wheeler he named St. Frankenstein out of an $80 junk piano and a heavy duty front loader tricycle. Since the piano bike’s completion in 2008, Skaggs has been taking it to the Embarcadero in San Francisco to perform for tips. He is able to play and pedal at the same time, though steering is particularly challenging and hills are a real hazard.

Sandro Lupo's hours at Hooters were cut, therefore forcing her to quit, after she had brain surgery. Her manager told her that she had to wear a wig to cover her baldness and the scar to work, but she couldn't because the wig impaired her healing. She is suing Hooters for an unknown sum of money. Her lawyer says she was humiliated and discriminated against based on a temporary disability Americans with Disabilities Act bans. Hooters defense wants the suit to be dropped. Well as we all know Hooters is all about visual appeal, and their bussiness would be compromised when costumers see the bald headed scarred waitress. As superficial and sad as this sounds, this is the reality, and the case will probably be dismissed in federal court like some previous similar discrimination cases with Hooters.
Weirdos have been around forever, for us to make fun of, be entertained by, and wonder WHY.
