‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ and J.J. Abrams: Reasons Why it's a Good Thing
25 jan 2013 14:05

The news that J.J. Abrams would be the man to direct ‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ and lead the ‘Star Wars‘ franchise into a new era was met with mixed response today. While there were many who loved the news, there were others quick to shout “lens flare!” and rain on the ‘Star Wars’ parade. J.J. Abrams might not be the most original director out there, but there is good reason to believe he is the man for the job.

Aptly named Actual Facebook Graph Searches, the site’s creator, Tom Scott, searches for contradictory sets of data and highlights the fact that such results exist while protecting the anonymity of the Facebook users who may be, for example, married fans of adultery website Ashley Madison. Here are some more examples, unless you’re going to go check your privacy settings right now.

Classic Masterpiece Paintings Made of Shredded Magazines
25 jan 2013 09:44
It's always impressive when an artist can take one form of established art and transform it just enough to create something new and exciting. Artist Vik Muniz, who we've seen turn junkyard scraps into classic masterpieces, is one such artistic magician. In his latest series titled Pictures of Magazines 2, the New York-based Brazilian artist strips down issues of magazines, newspapers, volumes of books, and varied pop culture media, using their shredded pages to serve as brushstrokes for his "paintings" that, once again, recreate classic works of art.

Tiny Worlds Come Alive Atop Green Flock Fingernails
25 jan 2013 09:42
Recently, Alice Bartlett covered her fingernails with textured green flock and, from that moment, an idea was born. Inspired by the color and texture, she decided that her nails would be a great backdrop for miniature scenes of people doing daily activities. So she identified her favorite tiny models and created these scenes on top of each nail. She then photographed the imaginative stories that came to life in her hands.

For the 2012 summer festival "All Eyes On Korea" at the Korean Cultural Centre UK, some of the best Korean art is being showcased at various venues across London. Artist Choi Jeong Hwa has created two larger than life outdoor installations called Time After Time and Life-Life where he asked volunteers to help him cover up 16, dull gray pillars of the Southbank Centre with 7,000 green baskets and blow up 20,000 balloons (via pumps) to bring color and whimsy to trees. The bright pieces represent a new wave of Korean pop art, one that engages and delights its viewers.

The Most Beautiful Libraries in the World
25 jan 2013 09:41
Bibliotheken is a photography series, by German photographer Christoph Seelbach, features some of the most exquisite libraries in the world. The traveling project, which translates simply as Libraries, reveals the majestic interiors of some of the most jaw-droppingly beautiful libraries around today. Though the Cologne-based photographer seems to focus on European libraries, they are undeniably extraordinary. The architectural design of these literary edifices range from Victorian to modern. The stunning detail in the wall ornaments and structure of each venue is all at once astounding, captivating, and overwhelming. To think that books nest in these palace-like buildings seems, at first, excessive but actually appropriate. Knowledge is sacred and greatly desired by all men and, as such, deserves to be stored in a grandly dignified establishment. Still, one can be rather envious of the aesthetic charm of each architectural environment and the magnitude of its beauty.
