Adding Color to Historic Photos
25 jan 2013 08:23
Artist Mads Madsen has an amazing skill for colorizing old black and white photographs. Even beside their original counterpart the results are impressive, bringing a new dimension of realism to historic images. An American Civil War buff, Madsen’s 450+ portfolio of images can be seen on minus.com where he has amassed over 2.6 million views. Many of his subjects are portraits of commanders from the civil war. Madsen says it takes him about 20-30 minutes for a portrait but that the outdoor shots and images with lots of people and background take substantially longer. For a video tutorial of the process involved, you can check him out on YouTube. For a detailed step-by-step tutorial, check out this fascinating post on civilwartalk.com. Oh and I forgot to mention he’s only 18! A gifted young talent with much promise ahead, keep up the amazing work Mr. Madsen!

Realistic Tulle Portraits by Benjamin Shine
25 jan 2013 08:21
Tulle is that lightweight, very fine netting, commonly used for veils, wedding gowns and ballet tutus. British artist Benjamin Shine takes that tulle and proceeds to pleat, iron, and manipulate it into hauntingly realistic portraits that looks like photographs. By carefully folding and pleating the material in strategic places, Shine manages to create the lights, shadows, and tones needed to build the portrait. He then irons over it to keep them in place.

25 jan 2013 08:19
Although hover cars don't exist just yet, Air Drive allows us to imagine a future where they line the streets. The photo-manipulated series by French photographer Renaud Marion features some classic automobiles (sans wheels) miraculously hovering in the street. The series depicts a futuristic look at the new millennium from the point of view of a young baby boomer from the mid-20th century, an age when the 21st century was believed to bring about time traveling and flying cars.

25 jan 2013 00:21
Tennis player Bethanie Mattek-Sands goes Gaga at the pre-Wimbledon party in a bright yellow dress. She walked the blue carpet covered in tennis balls and she was full of smiles. The outfit was designed by Lady Gaga’s dress designer, Alex Noble. The pre-party was held at the Kensington Roof Gardens in London, England. I wonder if Gaga approves.

15 Year Old Shoots Parents And 3 Young Siblings!
24 jan 2013 18:17

Greg Griego, Sarah Griego and 3 younger siblings were shot by their 15 year old son and brother Nehemiah this Saturday morning in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After the incident the teen went to church and confessed. His family had 10 kids of which many were home schooled. A former gangster father, who turned his life around becoming a priest and converting a backyard barn into a halfway house for released prisoners, monitored what his kids watched on TV, and what kind of video games they played. These news shocked everyone and the prosecutors said that Nehemiah will be tried as an adult.

Weird 4 Stranded DNA Discovered In Human Cells!
24 jan 2013 17:50

Scientists have discovered four stranded DNA in human cells! They called these weird structures G-quadruplexes. Some believe that the four stranded DNA can serve in future prevention of the rapid division of cancer cells. "We are seeing links between trapping the quadruplexes with molecules and the ability to stop cells dividing, which is hugely exciting," said Shankar Balasubramanian, a chemist at the University of Cambridge and Cambridge Research Institute.
