Coffee painting is becoming more and more common, but Indonesian artist Ghidaq al-Nizar has taken a new approach by painting his coffee watercolors on leaves and by using coffee grounds in his compositions. Al-Nizar calls his art #zerowastecoffee because he usually paints it with what’s left of his morning coffee, making sure that none of it, not even the coffee grinds, goes to waste. What I care to acknowledge about this body of work is the idea of making art from a mistake, as a spill of coffee on the stove could be experienced like. The alchemy of this process is to bring meaning and purpose to something that apparently went wrong. On the other hand it also proposes the factor of resourcefulness into the art discussion, something which is becoming more popular these days, as well as the glorification of impermanence (and this applies to my coffee spills) as the artwork...

The cups, which are currently part of a Kickstarter campaign, will have seeds embedded in their walls based on their locations.
