Fascinating Cross Section Photos Of Deadly Bullets
25 jun 2013 14:52

It’s hard to imagine that something so destructive as ammunition could ever be considered beautiful, but that’s precisely what photographer Sabine Pearlman has achieved with her photographic series titled ‘Ammo’. Despite being based in Los Angeles, late last year Pearlman could be found tucked away in Swiss bunker from World War 2. It was there that she set about documenting 900 different types of bullets, cartridges and ammunition. It makes for fascinating viewing where you can’t help but appreciate the craftsmanship and effort that went into assembling each unit – regardless of its final chilling use. Speaking about her work, Pearlman adds: The cross-sections reveal a hidden complexity and beauty of form, which stands in vast contrast to the destructive purpose of the object. It is a representation of the evil and the beautiful, a reflection of the human condition. You can view Sabine’s full range of work via her official website (including all 900 images) or stay in touch with her regular updates via her Facebook Page. http://www.pearlmanphotography.com/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sabine-Pearlman-Photography/248308635253212

Just How Many Jellybeans Do You Have Left?
25 jun 2013 14:50

What would you do with the rest of your life, if you knew precisely how long you had left to live? It’s a morbid yet thought-provoking question that talented YouTuber Ze Frank poses in his unique and creative video. Based on American Time Use Survey he’s worked out that our average lifespan is 28,385 days – yet alarmingly we’ll spend 8,477 of those sleeping, 3,202 holding down a job and a further 2,676 staring at the TV. Using the analogy that one jelly bean represents a single day in our lives he uses different amounts of them to reflect unique increments of time and events in our life. It begs the question, what will you do with the little time you have left? Ze Frank has a few suggestions in his beautifully crafted and genuinely moving video below.

4th Grade Kids Answer 3 Thought-Provoking Questions
25 jun 2013 14:50

There’s a saying that frustrated parents often use that goes “Children should be seen and not heard” usually in response to their own kids playing up. But gifted photographer Judy Gelles holds the opposite view. She asked a group of 4th grade students from India, China and the US to answer 3 simple questions, placing their answers against a backdrop of their own portraits. Those 3 questions were: Who do you live with? What do you wish for? What do you worry about? Their candid answers vary from being funny to sombre and some just make you want to reach out with a big hug. Either way, it’s a creative and unique take on portrait photography and one that Gelles should be commended before, sometimes some of the most powerful words can come from the youngest of minds. You can see the full extent of the series via her official portfolio or order her books here. http://www.judygelles.com/4th-grade/word-portraits/ http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-author=Judy%20Gelles&linkCode=ur2&search-alias=books&sort=relevancerank&tag=sobasogo-20

Epic Illustrations Of US Presidents Fighting In Battle
25 jun 2013 14:45

Ever thought you see the day when Obama was riding a lion with a light saber? Neither did we until now. Like many of us, one suspects that illustrator and visual artist Jason Heuser wishes that our elected leaders could be a little more courageous & fantastical. That goes a long way into explaining his inspiration behind these incredibly awesome illustrations. Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt are all recreated in the midst of battle or tooled up ready to take on the naughty evil-doers. You can get your hands on prints of images via his online store (they’re reasonably priced too) in the meantime, enjoy watching some of the most famous US Presidents in history kicking some serious ass. http://sharpwriter.deviantart.com/ http://www.etsy.com/shop/sharpwriter

Delta’s In-Flight Safety Video Will Have You Laughing Out Loud
24 jun 2013 18:21

Those safety instruction videos you are forced to watch before your flight takes off are getting a major makeover. Delta has begun playing a hilariously tongue-in-cheek video, which still manages to relay the important facts passengers need to know. Considering these videos tend to be as clinical as a visit to the doctor and entertaining as C-Span, we say it’s high time other airlines made a change. And here’s one other suggestion: whoever directed this video should be given a six-picture deal. Imagine how much better ‘The Internship’ would’ve been with this guy at the controls.

Reporter Acts Like Giant Baby Around Spider

An on-air weather personality in Canada had some trouble keeping her cool during a recent broadcast, thanks to an eight-legged intruder. The rub, of course, is the spider isn’t even in the room, but that doesn’t alleviate any of the fear Kristi Gordon clearly feels. Turns out Gordon has a history of bug attacks. Last month, she was dive-bombed on-air, which you can see below. Our advice for Gordon: invest in some OFF!

Paula Deen Racism Scandal Gets Taiwanese Animation Treatment
24 jun 2013 18:20

In case you haven’t been following that whole “Paula Deen is a huge racist” thing very closely, here’s a video to get you up to speed. Sort of. It’s actually kind of confusing. Brought to you by NMA World Edition, the Taiwanese news crew who animate the news in a humorous manner, this is the tale of Paula Deen’s recent legal woes, exaggerated for comedic effect. While it might not make things totally clear to you, at least you get to see cartoon Paula Deen using a confederate flag as a bath towel.

Reporter 'Can't Even F*cking Talk' During Live Report
24 jun 2013 18:16

Today is turning out to be a banner day for news bloopers. Earlier today, we meet our new GIGANTIC SPIDER overlords, and now, via Deadspin, we have Lindsay Nadrich of Fox’s Spokane, Washington affiliate, who can’t get through her groundbreaking report on strawberries because she “can’t even f*cking talk.” That’s not the best part of the clip, though; that would be the shocked reaction the in-studio anchor gives to the “editing error.” Or maybe she’s just flabbergasted that she can buy strawberries that big, despite the rain.

And I chose Bradley Cooper because I love Sam’s fiancée so much. [Sam is] so sweet. So sweet that he’s almost not hot anymore.” A typical Jonah Hill quote: “You don’t want girls to think you suck d*ck at f*cking p*ssy.” A typical Jonah Hill/Jennifer Lawrence FashMashup quote: OH MY GOD WHY WOULD SOMEONE MESS WITH PERFECTION LIKE THAT? So Apparently Deadpool's Video Game Takes Its Cues From Duke Nukem
25 jun 2013 10:00

Don’t get us wrong, we trust High Moon Studios to deliver a solid game. These were people who were handed Michael Bay’s Transformers movies and through sheer force of will actually squeezed a surprising amount of creative blood out of that particular stone. And we’ve little doubt a Deadpool game will play great. It’s a game that involves stabbing, shooting, and doing ridiculous things with little regard for health or safety. That’s pretty hard to screw up. But it’s the whole brotastic attitude to the whole enterprise that’s a bit… well, odd. The humor is a bit wrong for the character. Granted, Deadpool is incredibly quirky and weird, but that’s because he’s genuinely insane. Put a good writer behind him, and you’ve got him calling firearms doorknobs as he beats the snot out of some intolerable snob who gave him a degenerative brain disease, or realizing he’s actually saying what’s in his captions aloud, or dropping a piano on Wolverine. This… feels a bit like it’s trying too hard. “Adolescent” is the wrong word. You know that moment when you’re at a comedy show, and some guy comes on, trying really hard to be edgy? This kind of feels like that. Still, we’ll reserve judgment for seeing actual gameplay footage. Like we said, this will be pretty hard to screw up. Really, all we have to do is drop a piano on somebody, and all will be forgiven. Video games don’t drop nearly enough pianos on people.

Keeping track video game releases isn't as easy as it once was -- the volume of games released each week is constantly expanding, and they're spread over a mind-boggling array of platforms (consoles, PC, Mac, handhelds and mobile). Well, I'm here to make things a little easier on you. Every week I'll rattle off five games I think you should check out. These articles are not meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week -- think of them as a nice rounded tasting menu. Each week I'll try to highlight several games from different corners of the gaming landscape (handhelds, consoles, indie, PC, you name it) then finish up with a "Pick of the Week".

'Veep' Season Two Finale Recap: The 10 Funniest, Meanest Lines
24 jun 2013 17:38

It essentially entailed a half-hour of flip flops, in which we didn’t know if Vice President Meyer would be quitting the Presidential ticket, getting fired from the ticket, or running as President in two years or six, but last night’s season finale of Veep easily featured the highest number of outstanding lines (there were several more that didn’t make the cut). In the end, it was the president’s team — Kent, Jonah, and Ben — that were on the outs, while the VP is poised to make a run for the Presidency in two years, along with a core team that doesn’t include “Br-Br-Br-ead?” Minnesota Governor Chung appears to be her primary challenger, while Roger Furlong will be the VP’s likely running mate, which means at least another season or two of Dan Bakkedahl’s Furlong taking the piss out of his assistant, Will (Nelson Franklin), which has become my favorite part of the show. It was another fantastic season of Veep, and I cannot wait to see where Armando Iannucci takes it during election season next year. Here were the episode’s best lines.

The 68-year-old was tucking into a few burgers with friends when they spotted the giant alligator approaching them from out of the water. Why a list of the 10 Weirdest Mario Occupations? Wasn’t Mario just a plumber? Not always. He flew through space without a spacesuit in the Galaxy series, trained and raced Yoshis in Super Mario RPG, and used a pressure washer to eradicate graffiti and pollution in Super Mario Sunshine. But for the past few decades, it seems as if Mario cannot hold onto a steady job. From first hand accounts, being a plumber is a respectable job that makes surprisingly good wages. So why have we seen Mario partake in so many obscure jobs? Because he’s that damn good. It doesn’t matter if he shattered Bowser’s army, liberated Yoshi’s Island, or kicked giant, girl-stealing apes out of the most hazardous construction sites in existence, Mario can do it all. Wyclef Jean Isn’t Working With Amanda Bynes, But Waka Flocka Flame Is!
23 jun 2013 11:54

Wyclef Jean addressed those rumors that he’d be producing the upcoming mythical Amanda Bynes rap album, with his people saying this week that he has no plans to work with the actress. But that doesn’t mean she’s left high (so to speak) and dry — because Waka Flocka Flame has come to her rescue. Original reports indicated that people over at Chinga Chang records were in talks with Manders to cut the record, and that Wyclef was jumping on board. But the wheels began falling off when Wyclef’s people told TMZ he never even talked to her — and doesn’t plan to, either. (It’s possible Wyclef wasn’t interested in being called an “ugly black man.”) But never mind all that. Waka Flocka Flame, who befriended Amanda a while back by saying something nice about her Twitter (earning himself a place among the small handful of people she follows), runs Brick Squad Monopoly records, and he’s happy to work with her. In fact, he says a deal is pending and he’s already got songwriters working on her tracks. The songs may not be written yet, but Waka says the album already has a name — ‘Shots’ — and that it’ll be “crazy hot.” He and the, uh, “eccentric” former actress text every day, and he doesn’t think she’s nutty at all, saying, “She has it all together to me. She is cool as hell and ready for the rap world. I think she is going to kill the game.”
