Latest Movie Trailer: The Counselor, English language teaser
26 jun 2013 21:52

“If your definition of a friend is someone who will die for you, then you don’t have any friends.” I see Cormac McCarthy doesn’t subscribe to the same philosophy as the writers of Prometheus, Oblivion, The Town… How will an action movie even work if minor characters aren’t willing to sacrifice their lives for the good of the plot/leads??? I guess we’ll find out. Also: Trailer editors. Notice how much more effective the “sproing” sound at the beginning was in creating tension than the cheesy ass “BRAAAAHM” sound effects toward the end? Come on, guys, Inception was three years ago.

11 Seduction Tips From Vanilla Ice
26 jun 2013 21:50

Way before his days of cameos in Adam Sandler movies, house renovation shows on the DIY Network, and musical collaborations with the Insane Clown Posse, Vanilla Ice was once the most famous man on the planet, for his hit songs, “Ice Ice Baby” and... others. At the height of his popularity in 1991, Ice was hot off his film debut Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze when he made a little movie called Cool As Ice. At its core, Cool As Ice is a love story and Vanilla Ice offers a lot to learn about the timeless art of seduction. Here are a few tips from the movie that you can use to seduce your love interests, and keep in mind, Vanilla Ice did manage to score Madonna at one point in his life.

The 10 Most Terrifying Stephen King GIFs
26 jun 2013 21:44

Unlike movies based on Stephen King’s often-magnificent novels and short stories, which range from excellent (The Shining, Stand by Me, The Shawshank Redemption) to not-the-intended-kind-of horrific (pretty much everything after The Green Mile), the author’s small-screen adaptations have been mostly terrible. Or maybe I’m still angry about ABC’s mid-2000s miniseries Kingdom Hospital, which King didn’t write, but developed…terribly, at that. Under the Dome, which premiered last night on CBS, hopes to be (and is) a smidge better than Kingdom or, say, the 1997 Shining miniseries, which — considering it stars Hank from Breaking Bad, as well as Jeff Fahey and Mike Vogel, and was written by the super-talented Brian K. Vaughn — shouldn’t be hard. Also, an hour-long special on the creepy kid from Children of the Corn eating popcorn would be more entertaining than the 1997 Shining miniseries. Anyway, in honor of Dome, here are the 10 most terrifying GIFs from cinematic adaptations of King’s work.

New Mind-Bending Illusion of People Scaling a Building
26 jun 2013 14:04

Argentine artist Leandro Erlich is at it again with another interactive installation that gives off the illusion that participants are sitting on the edge of a windowsill, dangling off a ledge, and scaling the side of a building. Similar to his three-dimensional piece from last year, this one (known as Dalston House) invites visitors to participate in the illusionary fun. It allows people young and old to playfully swing, leap, and perform their death-defying stunts all from the safety of the ground. By situating the facade of a Victorian house on the floor and placing an enormous mirror over it at a 45° angle, those that partake in the fun are given the opportunity to see themselves in incredibly daring positions. It's not everyday (if ever) that you're cartwheeling from one second-story window to the next or taking a nap on the outer edge of a window. As part of Beyond Barbican, Dalston House is currently on display on a vacant lot on Ashwin Street in East London and open to the public for FREE through August 4, 2013.

Tacky American t-shirts worn in Haiti
26 jun 2013 13:02

After t-shirts are cheaply manufactured in sweat shops around the world, many are sent to the U.S. where we can find them at Walmarts and tawdry gift shops. Then, once the original purchaser has made their statement or had their laughs with the apparel or if the shirts never sell in the first place, they often end up at charities and thrift shops.

His passion for underwater photography is evident in his ability to capture the large fur seals in some incredibly playful poses. In one of my favorite photos (above), he's taken a picture of a lone fur seal with bubbles coming out of his head. His clever caption? "Thought Bubble."

Iconic Eyeglasses Perfectly Symbolize Famous Personalities
26 jun 2013 12:57

Wearing glasses is a great way to express your own personal style. Choosing frames can be quite the process, but with the perfect pair, they can become a part of your unique identity. Italian multimedia designer and art director Federico Mauro recently explored this defining fashion sense through a series of posters entitled Famous Eyeglasses. The minimalist artwork features basic pairs of glasses and sunglasses worn by many stars across the decades, including Elton John, Elvis Presley, The Blues Brothers, Sofia Loren, and Malcolm X. Even on a plain background with no owner in site, viewers will find themselves quickly identifying each celebrity based solely on the iconic eyewear. From colorful heart-shaped shades to pointy horn-rimmed spectacles, the notable objects illustrate a wide variety of dispositions and personal preferences. As fashion trends come and go, it's incredible to see how the eclectic choices of famous people across the globe have come to define personalities as well as certain generations.

New Origami Street Art by Mademoiselle Maurice
26 jun 2013 12:42

As a part of the 2013 Artaq Festival, french artist Mademoiselle Maurice presented three new pieces of paper street art in the city of Angers, France. The colorful installations were made of 30,000 pieces of origami with the help of local school kids, adults or “leisure centers’” residents. All the folded components were prepared a couple of months before the festival during the weekly workshops organized by Mademoiselle Maurice seeking to “deepen the link between individuals who form that human network [to] which we belong and [that] we frequent every day.” The Saint-Maurice cathedral was adorned with two installations—a geometric pattern on the front gate and a rainbow of origami on the front steps. A third installation, a massive origami mural, was placed on the banks of the Maine river. Would you like to see these in your city?

Fan does Transporter Effects In 'Star Trek' With Lights And Chairs
25 jun 2013 17:03

While I generally enjoyed the film, one of the things I didn’t much like about Star Trek Into Darkness, was the new effect they came up with for the transporter. It just seemed overdone and a bit off. Well, a Trek fan by the name of Joey Shanks has gone and created his own flashy transporter effect that, in my opinion, looks a lot cooler than the one used in the J.J. Abrams movies, and he did it all with Christmas lights. Yup, Christmas lights — hit the jump to check the effect out…

Pixar's Sad Decline, an Infographic
25 jun 2013 17:02

One knock on Pixar you hear a lot is that they aren’t the same company that gave us Wall E, Finding Nemo, Up and The Incredibles. I somewhat have to plead ignorance because I still haven’t seen Monsters University or Brave, but the general consensus seems to be that they weren’t up to the same standard. Is that because Pixar hasn’t been Pixar since Disney bought it, or is it just the way of all things, to start out young and supple like a ripe peach and eventually end up old and saggy like your mom? We don’t have the answers to those questions, but we do have this sciencish charge from The Atlantic that proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that Pixar is in decline. Okay, maybe “proves” a bit strong, but it does kinda depict it graphically, from a certain perspective.

The 'Doctor Strange' Movie Could Open With Teenage Angst
25 jun 2013 16:43

Doctor Strange is looking more and more likely to be headed to the silver screen, possibly as part of Marvel’s Phase 3. And apparently, Marvel is going to be sticking to its tried-and-true formula of “The first movie is the origin, because otherwise our audience will never accept what else is going on.” Latino Review has been pretty consistently breaking stories about Strange and this video breaks down how the script currently circulating at Marvel opens: Yep, you heard that right: Strange will be dealing with the guilt of letting his sister die, and that’ll be his primary motivation. We’re of two minds about this because on the one hand, it’s easy to see Marvel preferring that to his original, er, origin of just being a tool so focused on fixing his hands and too proud to just be a normal doctor that he sinks to truly epic lows. On the other hand, that Strange is such an arrogant, egotistic jerk is his key character flaw, and softening that by rooting it in a childhood tragedy seems a bit of a cop-out. Also interesting is that, if this movie is on the way, and supposedly it’ll be arriving in 2016, Marvel needs to get off its butt and hire some key personnel. We have our own nominee for director, although we can see a few others serving the role quite well, but either way, we’ll be interested to see what happens with the Sorceror Supreme. Just no rhyming spells, OK? Not even Daniel Day-Lewis could say the word “Satannish” and keep character.

It's been a quite year for new metal. ‘Avengers’ Star Mark Ruffalo Is Quite Smashing
25 jun 2013 16:21

Last summer he smashed his way through the superhero flick ‘The Avengers‘ as iconic giant green hero the Hulk, but we’ve been crushing on Mark Ruffalo for a lot longer than that. Mark Ruffalo first gained some attention in the late ’90s, with roles in ‘Ride with the Devil’ (you know, the movie that starred Jewel) and ‘You Can Count on Me.’ But the early ’00s are when his career really took off, and you’ve undoubtedly seen — and swooned over — him in a ton of stuff, like the airplane comedy ‘View from the Top,’ or the trippy romantic drama ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.’ He even wooed Jennifer Garner in ’13 Going on 30′ and Jennifer Aniston in ‘Rumor Has It.’ Last year, Ruffalo became a big screen superhero in ‘The Avengers,’ in which he played mild-mannered Dr. Bruce Banner. When Banner loses his temper, though, he becomes the Hulk — a giant, green-skinned, muscle-bound monster who kicks some serious butt. Basically, what most of us are like in the morning. You can catch Ruffalo in theaters right now in the magician heist flick ‘Now You See Me.’

Jason Bateman Is the Handsome Everyday Man
25 jun 2013 16:20

We’ve watched ‘Arrested Development‘ star Jason Bateman grow from an apple-cheeked child actor to a handsome grown-up who brings humor — and adorableness — to his portrayal of the average, everyday man. Some may think Jason Bateman has a schtick — but if so, it’s totally working for him. Bateman often plays the “straight guy” in movies and TV shows. You know, the guy who’s reasonable and normal and just wants to stay out of trouble, but then his friends/family/girlfriend get him into crazy shenanigans and all he can do is sigh. Comedy! We need everyday dudes like Bateman. There’s nothing wrong with guys who are just so … normal, you know? The kind of guy you could settle down with, for sure. Bateman has been acting for a really long time, starting in the ’80s with roles in ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ ‘Silver Spoons,’ and ‘Teen Wolf Too.’ He went from a super cute kid to an even cuter man, and you’ve likely seen him in a number of comedies, including ‘Horrible Bosses,’ ‘Couples Retreat,’ and ‘Identity Thief.’ He also stars on the show ‘Arrested Development,’ which was tragically canceled after three seasons on Fox, but recently resuscitated by the amazing people at Netflix — be sure to catch the fourth season on Netflix Instant, and prepare to swoon.

Russell Brand Wanted to Get With Mila Kunis who's into Macaulay Culkin

Russell Brand is still busy promoting his ‘Messiah Complex’ comedy tour, and this time around he talked to the UK paper the Mirror, which allowed him to tell amusing anecdotes (rather than belittling him). To wit: There was that time he tried to mack on Mila Kunis, but all she wanted to talk about was then-boyfriend Macaulay Culkin. This particular story took place around the time Kunis and Brand were filming the 2008 movie ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ together, and in his free time he hit on her because, hi, this is Russell Brand we’re talking about. “She’s so gorgeous, just so gorgeous and I was chatting her up and got the conversation around to ‘have you got a boyfriend,’ and then you know that feeling of ‘how long do I have to entertain a conversation?’” Brand told the newspaper. “Then I go away and she keeps talking about her boyfriend Mac.” “Eventually she said he’s coming tomorrow and there was some sort of fanfare, she was so excited. Then when he came it wasn’t Mac – it was Macaulay Culkin. He’d got longer and looked pale and scared of himself, like a shaved horse. There was a horror about him,” Brand joked. “I thought, ‘You can’t f–k him – that’s the lad from Home Alone!’” It’s not hard to imagine that someday, someone else will hit on her, and he’ll tell this exact same story — only perhaps he’ll be horrified the bedmate in question is “the lad from ‘Two and a Half Men.’”

Jim Carrey Disses His Movie ‘Kick Ass 2′ Because It's to Violent

Jim Carrey has publicly denounced the violence in a new movie — starring himself. Which means ‘Kick Ass 2′ isn’t just a clever name … the sequel to a violent comic book movie actually contains violence. Of course, according to an executive producer and writer of the comic books on which the film is based, the screenplay had violent content in it when Carrey signed on to do it 18 months ago. Also, the name alone might indicate this isn’t a fuzzy feel-good flick. But suddenly, the man who brought us this weird protest video has decided it was all wrong. Over the weekend, the actor tweeted this to his more than 10 million Twitter followers:

Justin Bieber and His Crew Get Kicked out of an Indoor Skydiving Place
25 jun 2013 16:05

Earning his new royal title Sir Bratticus, Justin Bieber has now been banned for life from an indoor skydiving facility in Sin City for being ill-behaved and for not properly potty-training his security team (basically). According to a source, the Biebs and six friends showed up at Las Vegas Indoor Skydiving shortly before closing on June 16 to get their fly on. Unfortunately for everyone there, they were “a disrespectful bunch” and left the bathroom in disarray — one security guard even threw a paper towel on the ground rather than putting it in the garbage where it belongs, all while “directly looking at an employee” in spite. Bieber himself was reported to be “very standoff-ish toward mostly everyone outside of his crew” and “very disconnected from reality.” Finally, when it came time to pay their $1600 tab, someone who worked for the facility told the tween sensation that in lieu of payment, he could post an Instagram photo of himself at the venue with some favorable commentary. Definitely one to look a $1600 gift-horse in the mouth, an inside source claims Justin “actually faked like he was posting something, per the agreement, but never did.” (And a little sleuthing indeed shows no skydiving photo on Bieber’s Instagram account.) After making a ruckus and generally being a poor excuse for a human being, Bieber and his crew left without tipping or paying and were thus banned for life. As punishment, they will be banished to another dimension for all eternity. Assuming said technology exists.

Imaginative Artists Renders Everyday Objects Utterly Useless
25 jun 2013 14:55

Giuseppe Colarusso has the weird and wonderful gift of being able to take an everyday object and render it completely useless thanks to a combination of his sharp imagination, wit and Photomanipulation skills. Some of his images instantly strike you as being totally unusable whilst others demand you to sit back and interpret them for a few moments. But whichever manipulation you’re looking at, a power tool that doesn’t have power, a table tennis bat that would make any game a challenge or a cutlery set that would have you dropping food in your lap – they are all delightfully fun and clever in their design. “With these images I try to smile and think.” – Giuseppe Colarusso But the Italian artist isn’t always playing the role of being a prankster, at the end of the post you’ll find two items that are vast improvements on their current useable forms. It’s just further proof of how ingenious Colarusso and his conceptual artworks can be. You can see more of his entertaining work via his official site.
