Drawings That Look Like Digital Photographs
31 jan 2013 07:35
Stare closely at the pictures on this page. What do you think it took to create these beautiful images of Amy Winehouse, Mother Teresa, Princess Diana and Rihanna? An expensive camera, a precision lens, hours of trial and error from a skilled photographer? Well, the answer is none of the above. All of these extraordinarily detailed pictures are pencil drawings, created purely by hand — with no digital trickery — by British artist Kelvin Okafor, whose only tools are a set of pencils, a piece of paper and the occasional stick of charcoal (though most of the pictures don’t even require that). Yet no matter how closely one looks, there’s not a pencil line in sight.

Tough Guy Challenge 2013
31 jan 2013 07:37
It's billed as the toughest race in the world, and it's not hard to see why when competitors face being burnt, scratched, bruised and even electrocuted. But thousands of people today took to the eight-mile assault course, through water obstacles and mud, as they competed in the annual Tough Guy challenge. Competitors are expected to haul their exhausted bodies through thick mud, under yards of barbed wire and over huge wooden barricades before hurdling walls of fire and plunging into a freezing lake.

Baby Elephant Going for a Swin with his Mom for the First Time
31 jan 2013 11:31
Melbourne Zoo celebrated the birth of a Chinese elephant cub on 17 January, after 22 months of his mom Num-Oi’s pregnancy and 4 days of labour. The 290-pound youngster seemed confident on his feet within 7 days after being born, so the zoo keepers felt it was safe to refill the water pool in the enclosure. The mother and her first-born must’ve really appreciated that, given that the temperature goes up to 95 Farenheit degrees these days in Melbourne.

Looking Forward to 105 Years in Prison?
31 jan 2013 13:00

Have you ever been hacked? Have any nudies on your computer?

This guy really had it down to a science:

Step 1 - Hack into a woman's Facebook, Skype and email accounts.

Step 2 - Change the passwords and lock the victim out of their own accounts. Search emails or other files for naked or semi-naked photos of the victim.

Step 3 - Pose as a friend or lover using personal details from their Facebook profile to persuade them to strip while he watched them on Skype, then capture more images of them.

Step 4 - Blackmail them with the nude photos he had obtained during the Skype chats and force them to send him more nude photos as payment for his silence.

Karen 'Gary' Kazaryan is indicted with 15 counts of computer intrusion and 15 counts of aggravated identity theft for stealing women's nude photos and blackmailing them for more.

Kazaryan was arrested in 2008 for rape, but the case was dropped for lack of evidence. He now faces up to 105 years in prison if he's convicted on all counts related to his "sextortion" scam.

Is this a missile or some random experiment?

The Weird & Wonderful World Of Circus Life
31 jan 2013 22:47
Back in the 1940’s out in the Wild West, the hometown touring circus was vastly different to the manicure large scale productions of Cirque du Soleil that crowds experience today. In fact during the 1940’s and 50’s being an entertainer on a traveling circus created various levels of hardship, from a lack of safety to “the show must go on” if you were sick or injured. During that time countless photographers like Frederick Whitman Glasier, Edward Kelty, Mathew Brady, Cornell Capa, Charles and Ray Eames, and even Stanley Kubrick – routinely captured both the feats of wonder on display, but also the true lives of the performers.
