“Big Woman Funnel Feeder” is both the name of a great CB radio handle (“This is Big Woman Funnel Feeder. Best watch out for the smokey in the bush ’round the next bend. Tijuana taxis everywhere tonight”) and an accurate description of 23-year-old Tammy Jung, who eats 5,000 calories worth of food every day, much of which is slid into her mouth via funnel, because her “career ambition is to become as popular as possible.” According to HuffPo, via Barcroft Media TV: Tammy was once a healthy eight-stone teenager who wore skinny jeans, loved playing volleyball and going out with friends. But in a bizarre reversal of a crash diet, Tammy turned her back on her slim good looks, and spends her days indoors stuffing herself with fried chicken, donuts and whole blocks of cheese. She even allows boyfriend Johan Ubermen, 28, to pour ice cream milkshakes down her throat, in an attempt to put away 5,000 calories a day. Yes, “allows.” Tammy’s diet has seen her weight soar 3.5 stones every six months, and she now weighs 16.5 stone [230 pounds]. The once svelte young woman is piling on the pounds to earn money as a Big Beautiful Woman on internet websites and hopes to one day top 30 stone [420 pounds]. Tammy hopes to one day earn $3,100/month, which is apparently how much human dignity goes for these days.

TV Network Pilot Season
13 may 2013 02:04

A lot’s happened in TV this week. Dozens of network shows have been renewed, canceled, picked up, or generally ignored — it’s all very confusing to follow, and just as infuriating to try to make sense of. We covered the Big Four decisions on Happy Endings, Community, and Mulaney last night, but to keep things straight, I’ve put together a guide to how you should feel about Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS saying yes, no, and maybe to series both old and new. R.I.P. Rock Center With Brian Williams, we barely knew you. Because we never watched you.

Kate Upton on Vouge

Last year, Burnsy wrote about the lovely troll known as “Skinny Gurl” who called Kate Upton a cannibal for eating at Carls Jr. Kate Upton’s a cow, you see. Get it? She’s fat. Kate Upton is fat. The same Kate Upton you see above, that very Kate Upton, is fat. I wonder if “Skinny Gurl” knows “Gag of Thrones.” Anyway, Upton is on next month’s cover of Vogue, and in the issue, she discussed the reaction she received from the Skinny Gurls of the world after appearing in the second most popular Sports Illustrated ever, trailing only this classic.

Gallon smashing is the Dumb & Dumberer of pranks. For the blissfully uninformed, “gallon smashing” is when…and please pay attention because this is very confusing…you grab a gallon of milk, water, any liquid but Surge really (the world needs its precious Surge) and you smash it. It’s pointless, unfunny, and *raises fists at teens*. The only good “gallon smashing” videos are those featuring people getting hurt, making the clip below, via Gawker, the Dumb & Dumber of “gallon smashing” videos. (Will you stop saying “gallon smashing”? Yes.)

Huge balloon dog
13 may 2013 13:10

Today's your last chance to see this giant red balloon dog! As part of art fair Frieze New York, Paul McCarthy created this inflatable dog towering over Frieze's tent. At 80 feet tall, it's an interesting nod to Jeff Koons with one critic saying, "I’m not even sure why McCarthy bothered to make the giant balloon dog after Koons had already made his over-sized chrome ones, unless of course McCarthy is making a wry contemporary-art-historical commentary on Koons’ art, but that seems too precious and cerebral. Koons’ dogs were interesting, a tad, because of the change in material, so that what at first looked like a helium filled balloon was actually heavy, and hard as steel. McCarthy returned the dog to its balloon form, but just made it into the Gulliver of all dog balloons."

Tiny human sculptures by visual artist Gerardo Feldstein
13 may 2013 14:35

Born in Argentina, visual artist Gerardo Feldstein builds sculptures featuring wacky human figures with disproportionately large hands or feet. Made out of wire and wood, the pieces portray strangely intriguing moments when perspective is distorted. Through his work, Feldstein challenges his viewers to make sense of what we see. The tiny headed figures with exaggerated features do all kinds of everyday things like point, climb ropes, and reach for things. It's a wonder how these bizarre little guys maintain any sort of balance. Feldstein says, “I see the sculpture as an extension of myself, my characters do, dramatize things I want and I can do."

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, though it may look and taste different depending on where you're from. While in America it is not out of the ordinary to have a stack of flapjacks and bacon as a morning meal, it is wildly different from Thailand's customary fish, pork, and rice dish. World traveling enthusiast Victoria Philpott took note of the various combinations of platters and variety of breakfasts commonly eaten each day along her travels. Rounding up fifty different and delicious meals that are typically eaten in dozens of countries, the globe-trotter shares an appetizing set of images on her blog from various sources of culturally unique breakfasts. Of course, everyone's taste palette is different but it is interesting, nonetheless, to see how different cultures interpret the best meal to start your day. It is also best to keep in mind that not all dishes are strictly the only breakfast anyone in any given country eats. Sometimes there just isn't enough time to prepare a full English breakfast and, other times, you want more than a simple croissant.

Have you ever looked at an object or building and thought, “hey that kind of looks like a face!”? It’s actually a psychological phenomenon known as pareidolia. Pareidolia involves a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant; it’s a form of apophenia (seeing meaningful patterns or connections in random or meaningless data). Online you can find entire communities dedicated to finding faces in everyday objects, places and buildings. On Flickr, the group FACES IN PLACES has over 6,365 members and a staggering 23,563 pictures. And on Reddit, there is a subreddit called /r/Pareidolia with nearly 40,000 members! You can also find countless Tumblrs, blogs and hashtags dedicated to this fascinating phenomenon that so many of us experience.

Seven Illustrated Lessons We Can All Learn From a Dog
14 may 2013 09:27
According to this series of illustrations by artist Patrick Moberg, life would be much easier if we all took a few quick notes from the behavior of a dog. The artist says, "My family never had a dog when I was younger, so I don't know a whole lot about them, but recently there's been a couple running around the office I work out of. Here's a couple things I've picked up on." Lessons from a Dog is a collection of colorful illustrations that are paired with simple phrases like "Forgive friends who don't have time to play," and "When someone kindly prepares food for you, devour it smiling like it's the best meal you've ever eaten."

Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluision traveled the world exploring how the eating habits differ from country to country and presented their results in a photo album, called Hungry Planet: What the World Eats. The wife and husband’s team visited 24 different countries and 30 families to photograph them at home, at the market, and surrounded by their weekly food supplies. Apart from being interesting and educative, the project brings up some social issues. The exposed weekly grocery list provides information not only about dietary habits, but also about health, economy, lifestyle, etc. It also clearly shows the division between the first world and the developing countries. Interestingly, less affluent families eat more nutritious food than those who could actually afford it. On the contrary, more economically stable families eat more processed food, while fresh products constitute just a small part of their diet. Come to think of it, how much does your family spend on food per week and what kind of food do you eat?

Jennifer Lawrence As A High School Cheerleader Picture

Nothing says internet like unearthing high school photos of celebrities, and over at Reddit that concept has been ratcheted up a notch with a new collection of high school (correction: Jennifer Lawrence is in middle school, even hotter) cheerleading photos of well-known lady celebs in their pre-fame athletic supporter days. Pretty much a perfect combo. I couldn’t have been more compelled to share, favorites Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Poehler, and I’m not one to skirt the bylaws. J-Law’s fairly predictable image above, obvs. Amy’s way-more-awesome late 80s (or maybe late 50s?) cheerleading shot below. Followed by Megan Fox and Meryl Streep for good measure. Italian popular gestures by Alfredo Cassano
14 may 2013 11:11

Hand gestures and body language is as vital a communication medium as spoken language itself. Gestures pre-dates any language in the world, in fact, human communication evolved from gestures. It is not uncommon for people to use gestures even to this date to convey thoughts, punctuate an expression and give it a shading that the word or phrase itself lacks. But I wasn’t aware that they were so popular among Italians until I stumbled upon the Illustrated guide to Italian popular gestures by Alfredo Cassano.

10 Reasons Why Time Travel Is No Good, According To Glove And Boots

“Everything is covered in feces!” So posits a video from Glove and Boots explaining one reason you wouldn’t like travelling to the past. To be fair, people really were positively slathered in feces back in the Dark Ages. It’s in history books or the Wikipedias or whatever it is the kids are learning history from these days. Good luck with that, kids. We learned all the history we needed from 2001′s A Knight’s Tale starring Heath Ledger *tips a 40* and Shannyynn Sossassafras. Glove and Boots previously raised awareness of Vertical Video Syndrome, had their gorilla cover “Call Me Maybe”, and made us laugh with playthroughs of classic video games. Now they detail their ten reasons time travel sucks. They didn’t even mention the most important reason. The Earth rotates and moves in its elliptical orbit around the Sun, and the Sun orbits the galactic center, and the whole universe is expanding. You better get your coordinates in spacetime exactly right, or…
