Florida's Gentle Giants
13 feb 2013 07:45
Manatees (often known as Sea Cows) are one of Florida's most endangered creatures and few remain in the local waters. An aquatic relative of the Elephant, they can grow up to thirteen feet and are often referred to as 'Gentle Giants'. These animals are endangered despite the fact that they have little or no predators, this is due to the fact that they are often injured by boats or polluted waters. Usually found grazing on seagrasses in the shallow waters (at depths of 1-2 meters) these harmless animals can become trapped between the water bottom and the bottom of boats that have entered the shallow waters. Watercrafts are also responsible for the injury and death of some Sea Cows as they collide with the vessels propellers. Amongst the small population of these Sea Cows, you will find on many, the scars they bare if they are lucky enough to survive the collision. The animals can also become trapped and crushed in flood control gates which automatically close and some fall victim to fishing nets.

Shockingly Creepy and Bloodthirsty Birds
12 feb 2013 11:21
Alfred Hitchcock did not know his birds very well, otherwise he would not have used mere crows and gulls in his avian horror movie. The truly terrible birds that stalk the world’s continents and remote islands are among the creepiest and most disturbing creatures. We follow these feathered stalkers which inspired the unclean birds of ancient religious texts, folklore warnings, and the demons of many nature religions. Vampirism, impalement, ghoulishness are the hallmarks of these species. One may even harvest humans on occasion.

Sheltering Abandoned Animals
12 feb 2013 08:28
All these animals lived on the street until they were found by their new owners. It warms my heart knowing there are good people in this world who are not afraid to pick up an abandoned and sickly animal and give it care that every living creature deserves.

|BestVideos| It's Raining Spiders In Brazil - Santo Antonio de Plantina
12 feb 2013 03:31

Hundreds, or maybe thousands, of spiders between two poles in the town of Santa Antonio de Plantina in Parana, Brazil. We don’t know why they’re acting like this, we’re trying to find out and will post if anyone gets back to us with an answer. It’s hard to get a still shot that does video justice. It looks like the spiders have the house surrounded. The guy filming it just keeps saying, “it’s raining spiders!” This is pure horror movie material. None of these still images does the video justice, you have to watch. Keep in mind that each image is only a small area compared to the total. They’re everywhere surrounding the house:

The were captured for a forthcoming documentary charting a year in the lives of three penguin communities, revealing the qualities that make them among nature's most devoted parents.

Incredible Photos of Sharks and Dolphins Preying on Mackerel
11 feb 2013 10:38
British Wildlife photographer Christopher Swann swam in the midst of this frenetic battle of life and death to capture this images off the coast of the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean. Thousands of mackerel swam into a huge shimmering ball 30 feet in diameter to protect themselves from the predatory onslaught of dolphins and sharks. But as the shoal flees from deeper waters towards the surface, clusters of Cory's shearwaters begin to dive-bomb them from above. Left with no escape, the blue jack mackerel have little choice but to wait until the pod of short-beaked common dolphins have had their fill.

Dancing With Wolves
09 feb 2013 09:02

Werner Freund, 79, is an ex-paratrooper who for 40 years has hand raised and lived among wolves at his sanctuary in Merzig, Germany. The magnificent creatures, naturally feared by any man, all behave playfully and submissively towards Werner, who has over the years exerted his dominance in the pack. At feeding time, Werner must ensure he continues to feed first and disallows any of the hungry and salivating wolves to come near, in order to maintain the respect of the pack. It is for this reason that they do not attack him and, instead, lick his face and act playfully when they are not feeding.

10 Weird Military Plans to Use Animals as Weapons
07 feb 2013 10:51

Animals have been used in war for a long time: ever since we learned that sitting on a horse was faster than running. These ten examples show some of the more unusual ways we’ve used animals as weapons of war over the years. And just as a note, this doesn’t include blatantly heinous tactics like strapping bombs to dogs—those people should never be honored. All of these entries are unique either for being ridiculously awesome, creative, or just, well, sort of bizarre.

Bats Madness, 8 million Bats in Pictures

If you're a bat lover, this is the place to go sometime in October, when all the creepy little creatures come out of the trees to party. The Deadliest Animals on Earth
06 feb 2013 14:53
Man is widely considered to be the deadliest animal on the planet, mostly because it’s hard to match the killing power of our guns and nuclear bombs. Even so, there are plenty of lethal predators out there that are more than willing to take us on and, if fortune favors these creates in battle, rip a chunk out of our flesh, or even end our lives. Of course you’ll recognize some of the most formidable hunters on Earth on this list, and they deserve their fearsome reputations as man-eaters. However, some top predators like killer whales (orcas) didn’t make the list, because they don’t pose a real threat to human beings. Others on the list, like certain insect species, may surprise you — get ready to have your mind boggled by the number of people they dispatch every year.
