Normally you’d have to throw a buck or two towards a street performer to get them to even move. So if you think about it this guy lucked out — as did we! Recently posted to YouTube by an on looker in Australia, this video shows a street mime hard at work when a random jerk decides to come up and taunt him. Not only does he proceed to poke the robotic cowboy and toy with his hat whilst circling him, he then delivers the hellish and always-dreaded wet willy. Luckily, when the two come face to face, he’s on the unfortunate (but well-deserving) receiving end of a not-so-robotic knuckle sandwich. As far as the crowd, they didn’t see to mind. What do you think?
‘The Thing.’ ‘The Karate Kid.’ ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.’ All movies that we know and loved that got–or are getting–revamps, remakes and reboots thanks to Hollywood’s obsession with youth culture and movie audience’s short attention span/nostalgia obsession. Some are good. Some are insanely awful. This got us wondering what else might come our way…again. Take a look at a few potential reboots of your favorite childhood flicks.

Chad Roberts, a member of the RVA Beard League, is no stranger to creative facial hair. Here he is with a spider-inspired beard. In the past, he’s had a ‘Star Wars’ X-wing beard, a Christmas tree beard and something we’re calling a “beerd.” We have to admire him for going all out. Here are a couple of pics, but you can check out his whole RVA page right here.
Have you seen the movie Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas? It’s a disturbing, surreal drug addled haze of sequences and characters marauding around on screen in the most unlikely and unusual scenarios. Well, you can apply that same level of the bizarre to the phenomenal works of acrylic painter David MacDowell. Aside from his dark & satirical interpretations of American pop culture, is the impressive fact that he’s actually self-taught. His stunning candy coloured nightmarish scenes were not the product of years of University study & endless lectures, but the result of spending the majority of his childhood (like many of us) watching TV, listening to band & absorbing movies. His work has been featured around world and exhibited right across America in numerous gallery spaces – hardly surprising given his unique gift & talent for the extreme. Below is just a small sample of his controversial, confronting & frankly awesome work, you can experience the full range of his imagination via his official Flickr channel.

“Faking It: Manipulated Photography before Photoshop” is an exhibition that takes a look at manipulated photography from the 1840s until the 1990s, when digital photo editing largely replaced manual techniques. The exhibition includes some 200 works, from quaint Victorian trick photography to misleading propaganda images.
"The urge to modify camera images is as old as photography itself—only the methods have changed. Nearly every type of manipulation we now associate with digital photography was also part of the medium’s pre-digital repertoire: smoothing away wrinkles, slimming waistlines, adding people to a scene (or removing them)—even fabricating events that never took place."
Before Photoshop photo manipulation took a lot more work. Take a look at these amazing older manipulated photos.

We’ve previously given you glimpse into the world of yesteryear technology ripped and stripped down to its bare skeleton, but rather than breaking down products & devices to their most basic parts, how about reconfiguring & resembling them into something utterly different? One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure as they say. It’s an area where visionary sculpture Jeremy Mayer excels. He carefully pulls apart disused typewriters, transforming them into cyborgs, animals and human figures. You can hardly believe that those large, cumbersome and clunky machines, could be morphed into something so complex and delicate. Below is a TED talk where he talks extensively about his passion and its origins.
A restaurant in downtown Harbin, China, employs 20 robots instead of humans that cook, serve and entertain its guests. They were designed and built by a local firm, the Harbin Haohai Robot Company. Each robot cost about $31,500 – US$47,000.
