Spectacular Three-Dimensional Polar Bear Sculpture
07 feb 2013 05:14
Valencia, Spain-based artist Luciana Novo reimagines the mounted head of an animal as a colorful spectacle on display. The plastic and clay wall-mounted sculpture known as Cabeza de oso polar, translated simply as Polar Bear Head, turns the typical hunter's trophy into an intriguing piece of art that raises many questions and provokes thoughts about these endangered animals. While a polar bear is not a beast that is typically pursued for game or otherwise, it is presented as a prize of sorts, mounted on an embellished headboard. Its multihued color palette adds an artistic touch to draw the eye, inviting viewers to take a look closer. Upon closer inspection, one notices the texture of the figure resembling that of hardened acrylic pigments. There's is a great painterly quality to the piece that takes a typical 2D image into a three-dimensional reality. While the artist's personal intention behind the piece is unclear, the sculpture is left open for discussion.

Halo 4 Punishes Sexism
06 feb 2013 15:42

Sexism is not okay! Simple concept, right? Yet every time I sign onto Xbox LIVE, I encounter sexism the likes of which I would never see anywhere else. Entire lobbies erupt into riotous cat-calls of “show me your boobs” and “get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich!” Guys who get headshotted by a female player throw around the nastiest and most disgusting misogynistic slurs, slurs that wouldn’t be acceptable if uttered anywhere else in the civilized world. There’s no denying that the online shooter community has become one of the most disgusting cesspools of bigotry and prejudice the modern world has ever seen, and the Halo 4 dev team is stepping up to say that this is not okay.

Anatomical Paper Filigree Art by Lisa Nilsson

I have a large amount respect for the artist who toils for hours with small pieces of paper, shaping them to match the anatomy of organisms.

Have you seen the movie ‘Night At The Museum’? Well, this next photographic series isn’t far from that reality. Austrian photographer Klaus Pichler was casually strolling around the Museum of Natural History in Vienna, when he noticed a stuffed antelope positioned in such a way that it looked like it was interacting with it’s new environment. As if it was in the wild merely a few seconds ago, before mysteriously finding itself stuck in the great corridors of one of Europe’s renowned museums, dumbstruck and confused.

Chinese Joke or Cool Purse?
06 feb 2013 12:32

These awesome leather handbags by American designer James Piatt are carried by clamping fingers in woven tubes similar to Chinese finger trap puzzles. Finger traps are often used as practical jokes, the wearer struggling to remove their digits from either end of the tube, which is usually woven from bamboo.

The weight of the leather bags creates the pull needed to tighten the weave and secure fingers in the tubes.

Would you wear this trend or is it just a joke?

Poetic Photos of a Beautiful Bride Submerged Underwater
06 feb 2013 07:03
Taiwan-based photographer Ada Wang captures the poetic flow of a young bride's descent underwater. Though the model appears empty and resigned in her facial expressions throughout most of the shoot, she emanates an elegant sadness that speaks volumes. Her rooted somberness is reflected in the sheer image of a bride submerged in water. On a day that is often revered as being the happiest and most memorable day in a person's life, their wedding day, this young woman is stuck spending it in liquid confinement. Wang's subject is trapped in a proverbial glass case of emotions as she delves deeper and deeper into a dark abyss, clutching onto her wilting bouquet.
