Artist Ursus Wehrli Visually Organizes Life
05 mar 2013 23:20
Swiss artist and comedian Ursus Wehrli is an artist with a wonderful sense of humour. He’s best known for taking the famous artworks of Seraut, Chagall and “tidying” them up, whereby he seperated out all the different elements from the original artwork and organised them visually. Amusingly enough, he even attempted to organise the work of Jackson Pollock – but in the end opted to simply place all of the paints back into their original paint cans. The images you’re about to see are from his latest book The Art of Clean Up, whereby he’s shifted his focus from the art world to everyday objects and situations. We love his work, its playful, original and witty – here’s hoping he continues to entertain for many years to come.

Jaw-Dropping Video: Capturing The Human Soul
05 mar 2013 23:20
SoulBot is frankly jaw-dropping animation by Andreas Wannerstedt. The entire concept of the video, centres on the premise that a human being looses weight when they die (21 grams to be exact) and that this weight could therefore be equal to the weight of the soul.

The Future According To Germans From The Year 1900
05 mar 2013 23:19
It's 2013 and still no hover cars. This is getting ridiculous. But way back in Germany in the 1900′s they too had high hopes for mankind – the inventions and experiences we’d collectively create in the future. Below are some illustrations from that period, that were apparently produced by Hildebrands (a leading German chocolate company of the time) which provide an amusing glimpse into the general publics perception of the future. There are some wonderfully optomistic ideas and illustrations on show – my favorite would have to be the “Personal Flying Machines” a distant relative to my hankering for that (hopefully upcoming) hover car!

Manual Photography Cheat Sheet
05 mar 2013 23:12
Digital photography is a relatively simple skill. Manual photography however, is a completely different story. Check out this infographic if you are into old school shooting. Also, take some pointers: Notes: Exposure - The light meter is different from the exposure setting. - Keeping your light meter at “0” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the perfect setting. Just don’t stray too far from the “0”. Adjust to your liking. - Positive numbers on your exposure setting will make your photos brighter. - Negative numbers make your photos darker. Aperture - Small numbers (like f/1.4) have larger openings, which let in more light. - Big numbers (like f/16) have smaller openings, which let in less light. Shutter Speed - Seeing 100, 250, 320, etc. on your viewfinder means “1/(number seen)”, like “1/100”. - Try not to use 1/60 or less when handheld, that’s when you use a tripod or look for something steady. - Using longer exposure (slow shutter speed) will let in more light. - Using shorter exposure (fast shutter speed) will let in less light. ISO - ISO is the sensitivity of your camera to light - Lower numbers are less sensitive to light, which give smoother photos. - Higher numbers are very sensitive to light, which give very grainy and noisy photos.

A Visual Guide To The Caffeine Experience
05 mar 2013 22:50
Let’s face it, when it comes to ordering a coffee these days there’s myriad of different flavors, types and combinations. Those simplistic days of the humble “regular short black” are long gone… Take for example coffee giant Starbucks, who’s beverage the “Americano” is “A single shot of espresso with about 7 ounces of hot water added to the mix.” Apparently, the name “Americano” stemmed from an insult to Americans who weren’t up to drinking full espressos. Their Caffee Mocha is described as ”quality chocolate syrup covering the bottom of the cup, 1 shot of espresso, filled with steamed milk, topped with a dollop of whipped cream and lightly sprinkle with cocoa powder” - it’s an elaborate description, for a beverage that essentially amounts to hot chocolate and caffeine. Thankfully though, the thoughtful Lokesh Dhakar has created a simple & effective infographic to help you make sense of the various combinations of the caffine experience. Now you’ve got no excuse for being mystified at all the different combinations your local barista offers you!

Meditating Cyborgs by Ziwon Wang
05 mar 2013 21:04

Wang’s “cybernetic” sculptural works explores the relationship between man and technology.
The characteristic faces that are repeatedly found are in fact a self portrait of Wang himself. Wang’s combining of human features with the artificiality of the machinery are derived from the three stages of cybernetics. Wang is particularly interested in the stage of cyborg, of robots being able to take on roles of the human body such as artificial arms and legs to aid humans. Thus Wang is challenging of the often thought perception that the moral nature of human being are lost with the advancement of artificial intelligence.
