Yahoo! Answers is Home to the Stupidest Election Questions
07 nov 2012 14:06

A lot of people have a lot of questions about the election. It's understandable, when you consider most people can't be bothered to think for themselves or pay attention to federally required classes on U.S. government. Here are some of the dumbest questions I've seen, and some of my own snarky remarks.

Sasha and Malia Obama Through The Years
07 nov 2012 13:43

From 2004 to present day (and more) these girls have been growing up in the spotlight, and that's not easily done. These two have done so gracefully, and it shows. They've gone from being adorable little girls, to beautiful young women. It probably helps that they've got two parents that very obviously love them. Parenting: you're doing it right, Obamas.

Syria conflict intensifies
06 nov 2012 17:50
In a conflict dragging on into its twentieth violent month, today was an especially deadly day in Syria, where rebels are fighting the government of Bashar al-Assad. A pair of car bombs exploded, one in Hama and one in Damascus, and both sides claimed wildly different casualty totals. Intense shelling of rebel positions served as counterpoint. But even an especially deadly day here makes it just one of many in the conflict that has claimed as many as 35,000 victims since it began with street protests on March 15, 2011. Over a quarter of a million refugees have fled to Syria's neighbors, and the UN puts the number of internally displaced at over a million. Gathered here are images from the last month in the Mediterranean country of 22 million.

Anxious Nation Awaits Presidential Vote
06 nov 2012 17:31
Speaking to reporters aboard his campaign plane on a final flight from Pennsylvania to Boston, Romney said "I just finished writing a victory speech. It’s about 1,118 words.” And he said he’s only written one speech. The election has little in common with candidate Barack Obama’s triumphant sweep in 2008, and had more of the feel— in both hopeful campaigns — of 2004, a race that could have gone either way and that was decided by Ohio voters who preferred to stick with a flawed incumbent than...

In the meantime, here are some pics of really interesting polling places. I am sure you are familiar with a school or a church, but these places, a taqueria(?), are something else.

Women's health and reproductive rights became a political hot topic when the House debated a healthcare mandate regardin
05 nov 2012 17:10

Women's rights are a HUGE issue this election. Obama has ruled that women can access "free" birth control (not ALL birth control. It depends on your insurance plan and the type of birth control you're taking. It's not QUITE free, either. It's covered by insurance, which you pay for). Todd Akin and Paul Ryan talk about "legitimate" rape; and Mitt Romney talked about his many binders full of women. Here's a quick recap. DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!!

Hurricane Sandy: Recovery News
05 nov 2012 16:10
Hurricane Sandy battered the mid-Atlantic region with powerful gusts and storm surges that cause epic flooding in the coastal communities of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, knocking down trees and power lines and leaving more than eight million people – including large parts of Manhattan – in the rain-soaked dark. The mammoth storm packed maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. Those powerful winds, driving rain and storm surge are blamed for 98 deaths in the United States (although numbers still vary), including two small boys who were swept out of their mother’s arms. The toll of the storm is staggering, including a rampaging fire that reduced more than 100 houses to ash in Breezy Point, Queens. New Jersey took the brunt, officials estimating that the state suffered many billions of dollars in property damage. Residents began the long, slow process of recovery.

Life Advice from Anthony Bourdain

Tonight is the series finale of Anthony Bourdain's travel TV show, No Reservations. I've loved this show from the day it aired and I think it's absolutely brilliant. I want to be Anthony Bourdain when I grow up. For now, I'll take some of his life advice to heart. He's a man that has seen a lot of life and a lot of the world. Not a bad guy to be taking your cues from. Drink. Smoke. Eat. Love. Savor. Above all, LIVE.

It’s one of the great injustices of the modern world. While the likes of Waterloo Road and Canada’s Next Top Model clog up the airwaves, far superior offerings such as Friday Night Lights, recently rescued by Sky Atlantic, are squeezed out. Cult classics are rarely repeated. Underground gems slip under the radar. They’re consigned to the hidden corners of DVD racks, Sky+ planners or the internet, leaving some of the finest TV shows unseen. These stay-in-the-warm-on-the-sofa months are ideal for correcting this error, starting with these…
