Although currently living in the United States, crochet artist Olek recently returned to her native country of Poland for an epic project. Over the course of two straight (and rainy) days, Olek and her team of four assistants ‘yarn bombed’ an entire locomotive with two freight cars in tow. Olek had already crocheted many of the panels beforehand but they still had to be assembled to cover the train. The team worked through the night to pull off the massive undertaking, debuting the crocheted train on July 13th. It will be on display in Lodz, Poland, until August 19th. The project was done in collaboration with the city and was authorized. She calls the piece ‘Deadly Romance’.

Make up artist Lex Fleming did this series of Dr. Seuss body art. She’s got One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, The Cat In The Hat, The Lorax, and more! They’re all super impressive not to mention incredibly nostalgic. Reminds me of my pappy learning me how to read all those years ago. I was a late bloomer, so like, two, maybe three years ago. But I’m not ashamed. As they say: better late than never. Or as pappy used to tell me: you aren’t getting any younger and you were never that good looking to start off with. Maybe it’s time you learned how to read.

Slovenia-based creative director Jure Tovrljan has reimagined famous logos to make them reflect the difficulties of social distancing. Tovrljan started the project about a week ago, when all of his social feeds were flooded with cheap memes about the coronavirus pandemic. "It all [began] when I was looking at the Starbucks logo," he told. "I was wondering how the iconic mermaid would look like with a mask."

Optical illusions is just a fancy way of saying eye trickery, except it’s bigger words and harder to spell. This is a series of cray cray portraits, chock full of optical illusions aka eye trickery. The kinda stuff that’s gonna make your eyeballs be all “WAIT WUT?” and your brain say “This is too much for me to take in, I need a nap.” And is that what you want? IS IT? The person responsible for this madness is Ukrainian artist Oleg Shuplyak. Great job, Oleg! I mean, seriously? My eyeballs closed up shop indefinitely and my brain just packed up and left town. So thanks! Thanks for that.

Belgrade, Serbia artist Milos “Sholim” Rajkovic has created a surreal collection of animated GIFs showcasing faceless people with moving mechanical parts packed into their heads. In an interview with The Daily Dot, Milos shared that the models he used his GIFs were “politicians, corporate people, or just pretty faces from the commercials that we watched for hundreds of times during a day and who have no identity and personality.”

Photographer Gregory Masouras, 26, started to attract the attention of many, including design, photography, and fashion professionals, when he began posting a strange-yet-effective mix of paradisiacal landscapes of Athens and Disney princesses on his Instagram. Simon Hennessey is a Birmingham, UK based artist who paints realistic images of famous landmarks around the world as reflected in the lenses of a pair of sunglasses. Like most hyper-realistic painters, Hennessey’s process starts with the camera. But instead of simply copying the photograph, the artist proceeds to add or remove details, depth, add textures, form and color values, thereby creating an illusion of a reality not seen in any photographic source. “My Paintings therefore appear clearer and more distinct than a photograph. constructing my own interpretations of a reality results in blurring the boundaries of what is real and what is made up,” said Simon Hennessey. “I use the camera only as a source to assist me with gathering information.”

Texas-based artist and animator Robby Cook has illustrated Disney princesses, villains, and other characters as elemental benders from Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. Jasmine is depicted as a firebender with her lightning tiger Rajah, Mulan is a member of the earth-bending Kyoshi Warrior clan, Pocahontas is appropriately an airbender, and Ariel is a waterbender. Ursula, the villain of The Little Mermaid, is a corrupted waterbender who controls Ariel through the dark art of bloodbending. To see the rest of the crossover artworks, head over to Cook’s website.
