Vivian Maier was a nanny for over 40 years in Chicago. Little did anyone know that she had a secret passion for photography, and spent years (and hundreds of thousands of photographs) documenting streetscapes from the 1940s up through the 1970s. She had a natural ability to capture American life and moments (although she did take photos abroad as well), many of which offer a telling look into vintage New York or vintage Chicago.
Her work was only unearthed randomly by a real estate agent/historian in 2007, two years before her death. The discovery of Maier’s enormous body of work has now placed her as one of the best street photographers of the mid-century.

Ben Nunery’s wife Ali passed away in 2011 after a battle with a rare form of lung cancer. Two years later, Ben and their daughter Olivia decided to move out of the house that he and Ali moved into the day before their wedding. With everything packed up, the house was empty, just like it was on the day they shot their wedding photos. So Ben enlisted Ali’s sister, photographer Melanie Pace, who shot their original set of wedding photos, to shoot a set of new ones.

Queenie Liao is an artist but first of all a mother and she wanted to show that you can be both… at the same time. With her creative photography she caught the dreams of her child during his sleeps: the result is a brilliant compilation of photos where her baby is the absolout protagonist. Pacific as if nothing happens around him, his daily sleeps are transformed by Queenie Liao into fascinating fairy tales by using plain cloths, stuffed animals, and other common household . A brillaint work that makes us remember our childhood, where our dreams were full of magic.

If these pictures don’t put a smile on your face, then you’re cold and heartless and clearly don’t like to be in a good mood. And if that’s the case, I have no idea why you’re visiting this website because literally everything on here is supposed to put you in a good mood.

At quick glance, one might believe that these landscapes are far-off shots of travelers enjoying outdoor expeditions. However, upon closer inspection, the truth reveals itself in the form of miniature figures perfectly placed within the majestic landscapes of the southwestern United States.
The series, entitled Southwest, is a photo project by husband and wife team Kurt and Edwige Moses. Known for their wide variety of adventures in a miniature world, the artist duo focuses on blending the one-inch tall figures into real life situations. Although the moments are fairly ordinary—enjoying a bike ride, taking a photograph, or going for a hike—the toy people add a bit of playfulness to the naturally illuminated, everyday scenes.
The artists explain that their collective project, Un Petit Monde, "combines the challenges of capturing an evocative, aesthetically pleasing image while documenting a scene in the real world environment using only available light and existing conditions. Ultimately, it is our mission to share some of the fun and joy for life with you through our project."

After his popular series “Dancers Among Us,” photographer Jordan Matter broadened his gaze to include all serious athletes. His follow-up series, “Athletes Among Us,” takes a whimsical, sometimes silly, sometimes impressive look at men and women whose lives are centered on sports as they try to navigate the day-to-day world of normal people…

Is that tiny frog holding a leaf like an umbrella, to shield himself from the rain? Yes, and it's just one of several amazing shots by photographers who feature the tailless amphibians in their photos. Photographer Penkdix Paime shot the tiny tree frog in his neighbor's backyard in Jember, East Java, Indonesia. The clever frog used the leaf as his umbrella for more than 30 minutes as the rain pitter-pattered all around him.
After showing you some fantastic photos of some very expressive owls, I thought it was time to turn our attention to the often neglected green friend that's found mostly in the rainforest. Incredibly, there are approximately 4,800 recorded species of frogs, making it one of the most diverse group of vertebrates around.
Now, please enjoy our top 14 photos of personality-filled frogs.

Is that little owl yawning or singing? Belgian-based photographer Yves Adams has the answer as he's the one behind the adorable shot. "Little owls are CUTE!," he states. "They make you laugh with whatever they do! But when they start to yawn, my heart melts! This picture has been taken in Spain, with the help of Steve West. This is probably the male, who was clearly bored, while the female was in the nest on her eggs."
Today, we bring you over a dozen photos that show you just how expressive owls can be. Whether it's the way they tilt their heads or walk with attitude, you have to agree, they're one photogenic bunch.
"There's nothing like observing local burrowing owls over a period of weeks, even months," states wildlife photographer Debbie Tubridy. Whether they're first peeking out of their burrow, beginning to run outside of the burrow, testing their wings, learning to play, or in this case, exploring the world around them and perfecting lifelong skills that will help them survive on their own, they're always fascinating to watch and photograph."

A few months ago, photographer Parker Fitzgerald was honored with the task of shooting the cover for Kinfolk Magazine. The issue focused on the coming of spring and, in light of that theme, Fitzgerald created this series of Ice Cream and Flowers. Piled high on top of ice cream cones, the gorgeous displays of flowers look good enough to eat! (Although please note Fitzgerald's cautionary P.S.: Don’t eat hydrangeas with, on, or instead of ice cream. They look pretty but are mildly poisonous. You’ve been warned!)

Flickr user George Oates has curated an aptly titled gallery on the photo sharing website called People Sleeping in Libraries. The collection presents one hilarious image after the next of exactly what you'd expect—unknowing library-goers caught snoozing on the various couches and desks of book havens, surrounded by walls full of volumes of published text.
One could easily infer that these slumbering students and power napping persons have fallen prey to the Sandman while studying hard or simply being on their feet for too long. Whatever their reasons are for taking a break from consciousness, it's certainly a state of weariness that most can relate to. Who wouldn't want the option to hit the snooze button and escape into dreamland on a comfy chair in a quiet library?

Austin-based photographer Emily Blincoe seems to have quite the sweet tooth. For her Sugar Series, she collected a wide range of color-specific candies, arranged them in deliciously symmetrical squares, and then photographed the organized compositions. She included every candy one can imagine, including lollipops, bubble gum, all kinds of fruit chews, hard candy sticks, taffy, gummy bears, PEZ, and even little heart-shaped piles of nerds.
Each photograph features a slew of candies set against a solid, color coordinated background. Blincoe features the full rainbow—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple—as well as black, gold, and white. The light is exactly the same in every photograph, shining in from the left and casting shadows off to the right, which adds a bit of depth to the arrangements. Viewers can't help but wonder if, at the conclusion of the project, Blincoe enjoyed a little feast of sugary treats!

What do most people do with fish they bring home from the market? If you’re normal you’d probably gut it and eat. (Actually if you’re really normal you buy that stuff pre-cut so you don’t ever have to look at their cold dead eyes staring back at you.) If you’re… not so normal like Paris based artist Anne-Catherine Becker-Echivard, you might make a weird-ass photo series of fish working on assembly lines or in laboratories. The series is called “Les Temps Modernes” (Modern Times in English) probably because in these modern times no one’s going to question your sanity for doing something like dressing up little fishies and taking pictures of them.
