Korean artist Young-Deok Seo never ceases to amaze us with his skilled ability to turn ordinary bicycle chains into extraordinary figurative sculptures. Through his construction the artist continues to comment on man's disintegration into a mechanical universe by using a cold, hard material. Using the human form as his template, the accomplished sculptor mimics the intricate shape and curves of the human face, deep in thought, for his Meditation series.
New York-based artist Larry Kagan creates abstract wire sculptures that transform into recognizable figures when exposed to light from a precise angle. Similar to the likes of Diet Wiegman, Tim Noble and Sue Webster, Kagan's sculptures cast figurative shadows that draw the eye in amazement. Rather than focusing on the constructed steel structure, one's gaze is turned to the shadow drawings on the adjacent wall. Kagan explains, "We are more or less aware of the presence of shadows, since they tell us something about our environment, but we do not actually look at them – unless they call attention to themselves by some unfamiliar or unexpected behavior. My challenge was to induce viewers to actually look at the shadow rather than solely at the steel. I began shifting more of the narrative burden to shadow. The more content the eyes could detect in the shadow, the more time and attention they would expend on exploring its details…"
The music world is filled with countless clinches and most of them we roll our eyes and joke about. Of course on the other hand the clinches are what separates that wannabes and the superstars. That and the talent of course. A trade mark can be good but you don't want it to consume you as an artist. unfortunately that happens quiet a bit. Here are 9 of the worst pop-star trademarks.

One guy made this picture in memory of his dead friend and posted it to Deviantart.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia-based illustrator Tang Yau Hoong has just released a brand new series where he pairs one of his illustrations with a famous quote. A few years ago, we discovered Hoong and we quickly became fans after we saw his ability to cleverly incorporate negative space into many of his works. As he told us then, "I enjoy making illusion art because it has the ability to mislead us. We rely on sight in our lives and yet it is so fragile that we could easily be deceived by what we see."
The entire field was roaring and applauding as the boy hit the ball and took his base. The joy on his face was almost indescribable. This handicap boy couldnt have been happier to be on the field. Unbelievable!
Sculptor Lorenzo Quinn playfully designs disembodied hands playing with life-size toys. The artist's public installation titled Esto no es un juego, or This is not a game, is especially interesting in its declaration juxtaposed with a pair of hands holding onto what appear to be plastic toys. Like the set of a child's imagination gone wild at playtime, the display is adorned with classic green army men holding varying stances. It is simultaneously playful and powerful, sending a message about the seriousness of war that is made light of through toys.
Artist Sukhi Barber was born in England and, from a very young age, she was always interested in pursuing her artistic passions. After attending art school and completing her formal training in sculpture, she traveled to Kathmandu, Nepal, and spent twelve years studying what she describes as the "timeless quality of peace and balance that she found in the art of Asia."
The 501st TK Helmet project successfully raised $50,000 for the Make-A-Wish foundation through the sale of these cool customized Storm trooper Helmets. Star wars does it again. Way to go 501st.
Spanish artist Emilio Ferrari creates extreme, hyper realistic drawings with just paper and some pencils. Every drawing has photographic qualities within the details, and it can take the self-taught artist up to two weeks to complete one of his visually complex creations. In contrast with the realistic accuracy of each piece, Ferrari includes a touch of surrealism in his illustrations. For example, a wide-eyed man's mustache grows unexpectedly upward and a scared young man has unnaturally perfect drops of blood trickling from his nose.
Shrouded within the park of Villa Demidoff (just north of Florence, Italy), there sits a gigantic 16th century sculpture known as Colosso dell'Appennino, or the Appennine Colossus. The brooding structure was first erected in 1580 by Italian sculptor Giambologna. Like a guardian of the pond in front of him, the giant is in an endless watchful pose, perched atop his earthy seat.

New Banksy works are fairly rare these days; he popped up with a couple for The Olympics, but otherwise he's been fairly quiet in the last couple of years. Upcoming Mexican artist José Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros puts a deliciously devious twist on those famous Disney characters that graced everyone’s childhood. Appropriating beloved Disney heroes and heroines in his latest exhibition titled “Disenchanted”, Ontiveros places them in the darker human realities of voyeurism, vanity, perversion and addiction. The strength of time-honored iconoclasm and the weakness of haphazard ideology awkwardly sitting side by side – just don’t let your kids see them.
Artist Diet Wiegman manages to sculpt mounds of irregularly shaped structures that are transformed into an intricately detailed silhouette when a light shines on it from a precise angle. Similar to the light and shadow sculptures of artistic duo Tim Noble and Sue Webster, Wiegman leaves audiences in awe with his puzzling ability to cast remarkably figurative shadows from heaps of seemingly abstract sculptures.
Over the past 20 years, Vermont-based artist Luciana Frigerio has developed an extensive black and white photography portfolio. However, recently, she has turned her attention to paper art, using books as the foundation for her unique Folded Book Sculptures. She says, "I cut, fold, and play with books and paper whenever I can."
It’s never nice when you’re precious Mr Bigglesworth dies. Some families visit the taxidermist to get their furry friend stuffed into oblivion so they can place them neatly on the mantlepiece for eternity. But if you thought that was more than a little morbid, wait until you see what Amsterdam-based sculptor Cedric Laquieze can do to your dead pet…. Forget simply having your pet stuffed into an awkward pose, how about getting its skeleton covered in fake flowers so you can use it as the main feature as your next dinner party? No? Yeah we thought that would be your answer.
Make no mistake, there are some really talented artists and illustrators out there creating really beautiful works of art. Serge Birault, aka PapaNinja isn’t one of them. He’s on a whole new level all by himself. He’s the mastermind behind this collection of jaw-dropping 2D Pin-Up’s. Rarely have such beauty, creativity and skill all come together in such perfect harmony. Regardless of the subject matter (which hey I’m a fan of obviously!) they are simply stunning works of art. I’m sure Dita Von Teese would certainly approve! I’d totally have them all over the walls in my house – wouldn’t you? Phenomenal.
Boring Garage Door? Pick up one of these garage door posters and make an impression on your neighbors! Now this is a fun way to improve your house.

Sculptor Keith Jennings carves wise faces into trees, revealing each wooden tower's inner spirit. Jennings first embarked on his Tree Spirits project back in 1982 when he decided to creatively manipulate a tree in his backyard with a few hand tools. Starting out as a way to kill time on a budget, the artist wound up honing his craft. Jennings was later commissioned to apply his wood sculpting skills on a series of trees throughout St. Simons Island, located right off the coast of the state of Georgia.
Container ships are some of the largest and heaviest vessels that plough on the seas. They measure up to 1,200 feet in length and can move 10,000 to 16,000, 20-foot steel containers in one trip. To push these vessels through the water require immense amount of energy, that are derived from massive diesel engines. Some of the larger cargo ships have engines that look like this.
California-based artist Henry Asencio is a painter who focuses on the stunning beauty of the female form. He believes in the timeless essence of the human figure and so he creates a variety of classic portraits that feature elegant lines and graceful shapes. Asencio often uses a palette knife to achieve his rich oil paint textures, and the final result is an expressive technique that blends abstraction with modern style.

Painter Erika Pochybova-Johnson is an untrained artist that relies on her intuition when painting her incredibly colorful figurative and abstract works. The artist's festive color palette allows each image to explode with energy. Her series of tree paintings are especially intriguing due to her artistic choice to save that burst of multihued liveliness for the roots of her subjects.

“Lab” is a life-size model of a human skeleton and organs that was painstakingly crocheted by artist Shanell Papp. The Canadian artist spent 8 months crafting the sculpture by hand back in 2006. In the pursuit of realism, she used an actual human skeleton and anatomy textbooks as references. The sculpture even includes unseen details like bone marrow and half-digested food in the stomach. Um... kinda gross.
Don’t let the photo fool you – this video is totally going to blow you away. Remember when you first saw Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” - the scene where he leaned forward at that impossible angle and you took your breath away? Well you’re on the right track, when it comes to the new video from Japanese group World Order (who are comprised of 7 dudes) and titled “We Are All” Basically, it’s the coolest thing you’ve about to watch on the internet all week. To dance the way they do, to have such flawless timing would take literally hours and hours and hours of rehearsals – but sheesh it’s worth it. The entire music video looks laden with special FX and time-lapse trickery – but the whole thing is done in real time, in the middle of every day life in Japan. It is quite simply…phenonmenal.
We freely admit, when we first saw these incredible half human half monkey photos we had to look twice! Strange, funny and more than a little freaky, they’re the work of Ukrainian graphic designer and illustrator Julia Malanina. Collectively we voted that our favorite was the emo chimp, just because it is so random – but let’s face it, they’re all great…..and slightly disturbing!
