Curious Street Portraits Blended With Colourful Collages
01 may 2013 14:43
We’re huge fans of Spanish visual artist Nacho Ormaechea and his unique blend of street portraits & vibrant collages. He walks the streets of Paris photographing its locals shopping, listening to music or just crossing the street. Once home, he then turns their portraits into silhouettes, cramming in a variety of strange and usual scenes within the outline of the individual. The end result is a true feast for the eyes, with the luminous images inside the collage relating to the scene as a whole – it’s inventive, unique and (we think) looks fantastic. You can see more examples from the series as well as the latest projects Nacho is working on via his official website: http://lecarnetnoir.com/

Complex & Beautifully Symmetrical Landscapes Of Earth
01 may 2013 14:42
It’s not first time that Google Maps has been reconfigured and subverted for the arts, but it’s certainly one of the more creative. David Thomas Smith is a visual artist currently living in Dublin who has just released his frankly stunning photographic series ‘Anthropocene’ – it’s received critical acclaim from all corners of the web and right so. The word ‘Anthropocene’ is actually geologic chronological term that serves to mark the evidence and extent of human activities that have had a significant global impact on the Earth’s ecosystems. Smith purposely didn’t randomly cobbled together a series of images, instead he meticulously selected each part of the world based on not only its visual appeal, but whether that particular area was economically, socially and even politically important. Just how much of a role had our culture, desires and values played in the development of these areas? Smith deliberated on each of those facets before transforming each area into re-imagined frontiers and beautiful symmetrical landscapes. Below are a few examples from this fascinating & complex series, you can see the full extent of his project as well as where it will be appearing next via his personal site

There's a lot to be happy about in music. Online streaming is finally starting to make sense, money is being made, and exciting new artists are popping up every day. Ronda Rousey Graces The Cover Of ESPN The Magazine's Anniversary Issue
01 may 2013 13:45
UFC Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey graces the cover of ESPN the Magazine for the second time in her already storied career as a professional ass-kicker, this time as part of the Worldwide Network’s publication’s celebration of 15 years as a magazine. Man, I can’t believe that it has really been 15 years since the Mag started arriving at my home in terrible condition because it was bigger than my other magazines so the mailman needed to cram it into my slot… wait, that’s the story of how I was conceived. Anyway, like I said, this is Rousey’s second cover, as she made her first appearance on/in the 2012 Body Issue. Don’t remember that one? That’s okay, I’ve got it right here.

Steven Soderbergh Reveals That Magic Mike 2 Is Happening
01 may 2013 13:39
Magic Mike director Steven Soderbergh says that Channing Tatum’s dream of making a sequel to last year’s smash hit, Magic Mike, is now a reality and it is “pretty far along”. Unfortunately, Soderbergh will not direct Magic Mike 2, but he told PrideSource that he’s going to help out to make sure that the film is done correctly, because he thinks that they have a great and “hilarious” idea ready. When our boy C-Tates started talking about this idea, I passed it off like, “Aw, playboy’s just rappin’ all high cuz he B rollin’ in da Benjamins from all dat 21 Jump Skeet cheddah, right?” But as time passed and he kept talking about it, I thought, “Yo, dat crazy beeyotch is gonna do dis 4 realz, right?” And here we are, just two months shy of the one-year anniversary of Magic Mike’s release all over our chests, I mean, in theaters. Well folks, I think this kind of news deserves a good, old-fashioned Magic Mike GIF dance Party.

'Legion Of Supervillains' Imagines Real-Life Evil In Comic Books
01 may 2013 13:29
You had at me at Osama Bin Laden as Green Goblin. One of the more impressive illustrated projects out there today, be it Hiter-related or not, comes from Butcher Billy, who, in "The Legion of Supervillains," imagined what real-life bad guys, such as Stalin and Mark David Chapman, would look like as comic book evildoers. "Some might say all art is a reflection of the times we live in. If back in the day comics and movies were pretty naive and faced only as pure escapism, today's fiction has to evoke reality to create something truly meaningful... and frightening. This series is an experiment where a dictator, a psycho, a murderer (sometimes they are the whole package) or even a suspicious figure from real life is mashed with a comics bad guy - strangely related some way or the other with his counterpart." The depressing thing? Realizing that if the comic book supervillains were actually the ones threatening real life, the world wouldn't be such a bad place.

5 Questions About The 'Parks & Recreation' Porn Parody
01 may 2013 12:58
When we look back on this decade, say, twenty years down the road, two questions will probably jump out at us: One, how did it take us so long to come up with a taco that had been blasted with Dorito dust; and two, how THE HELL did it take us so long to come up with a porn parody of Parks & Recreation titled Porks & Recreation? I mean, both ideas have been right in front of our faces for so long. We should really be ashamed. But, for now, let’s focus on the present, and the fact that said Parks & Rec porn parody has finally been produced, thanks to the hard work of an adult film company named “Wood Rocket.” As you might imagine, the existence of this film raises a number of very important questions, which I have helpfully listed below the film’s SFW trailer. Enjoy.

What The Cast Of History's 'Vikings' Looks Like In Real Life
01 may 2013 12:51
If you weren’t watching the History Channel’s Vikings, which ended its first season on Sunday, you should’ve been, or at least you should now. It doesn’t match the level of complexity in Game of Thrones — the universe is smaller, there are fewer characters, and the plotting isn’t as dense — but it was a solid, if not sometimes spectacular drama that got progressively better over the course of the season. It began as a fairly straightforward look at the power of brute force — there was crunching violence, and lots of axe play — but by the end of the season, the politics also came into play, the villains (including Donal Logue) become more compelling, and the scheming began to take shape. I don’t want to spoil the show for those who haven’t seen it yet, but I seriously encourage you to check it out, especially if you like shows like Game of Thrones or other historical dramas (Vikings, obviously, plays fast and loose with history, but it’s rooted, at least, in Norse legend). You do not have to have seen the show, however, to appreciate the differences between what a character looks like on the show, and what the actor looks like in real life. It’s not always as striking as the Game of Thrones characters without their beards, but there are plenty of instances where the actor is virtually unrecognizable from his or her character. Let’s take a closer look at the cast below:

‘Games of Thrones’ Gets a ‘Friends’ Makeover
30 apr 2013 23:46
‘Game of Thrones‘ fans: BEWARE OF SPOILERS. In this video — which fuses some scenes from the hit HBO fantasy series with the fluff-filled ‘Friends’ opening of our yesteryear — we’re pleasantly reminded of how glad we are that ‘Game of Thrones’ didn’t come out during the ’90s. And while this isn’t the first ‘GoT’ opening theme mash-up we’ve seen, it might be the most well-timed, considering the moment of Ned Stark’s death occurs during the lyric “When it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month or even your year.” It’s not exactly the medieval score we’ve grown to love over the past three seasons but it’s not a bad way to spend 48 seconds of your life. And we’d have to agree with one YouTuber when they say that no on will ever be there for Joffrey.

Willie Nelson’s Audition for ‘The Hobbit 2′ Will Give You Chills

Step aside, Sir Ian McKellen. Your role as Gandalf is about to be taken by an unexpected enemy…famed country singer/songwriter, Willie Nelson! In a recent Web exclusive produced by the folks at TeamCoco, Willie Nelson shows off his questionable acting skills in an audition reel for Peter Jackson’s upcoming ‘Hobbit‘ sequel. During said video, Nelson recreates some of the memorable lines of the past films. He even goes so far as to add some dialogue of his own and rewrite one of his legendary songs. Granted, Willie might not be the perfect choice for Gandalf (or Magneto) but as he said, “Hell, I’m Willie Nelson!”

Miley Cyrus Dishes to Elle UK About Life, Love and Liam
29 apr 2013 18:43
In a new interview, Miley Cyrus talked about how she and fiance Liam Hemsworth want to keep their relationship quiet now. Okay then. “We have a house together and dogs. It just seems right to be wearing this ring and to be committed,” Miley, 20, says in the June issue of Elle UK. (It feels right when she actually wears the ring, that is.) And why don’t they discuss their relationship publicly anymore? It’s simple. You jerks abused your Miley access privileges. “We were too nice to the world and gave them too much insight — into my life and my puppies and my house –- and I just don’t feel they get that privilege anymore,” she said. What?! No more puppy photos? But we love those! That’s not fair! Why does this … what’s that, Miley? You’ve got a new tweet?

What You Were Really Thinking While Watching "Les Miserables"

Let’s face it: Les Miz was a long, wonky film filled with way too many close ups and too many eyes rolls (at least from me) in the audience. Uh oh, Russell Crowe is here.

8 Shocking Movies Hollywood Made With Dead Actors

There aren’t many worse things that can happen on a film production than your star dying; after all, how the Hell are you supposed to finish things when your protagonist can no longer appear on screen? Though many filmmakers would simply abandon the film and admit defeat, in these 8 instances, a “never say never” attitude resulted in some shocking movies that either demonstrated inventive genius, or an incredible lack of taste, or just made us wish that the film had never been made. Many got up in arms about that rumour a few years back that George Lucas was going to use CGI to “resurrect” dead actors, but boy, that’s got nothing on these actual incidents… From poor editing tricks to flat out lying to consumers about how much of their role the late star had actually filmed, situations like this can catch directors and producers at their most unscrupulous. Ranging from superbly crafted Best Picture-winning blockbusters to the worst of the worst, here are 8 shocking movies that Hollywood made with dead actors…

10 Movies Critics Loved That Fanboys Hated
29 apr 2013 12:51
It is not uncommon for there to be a disparity between regular cinema-goers and film critics, though given the assumption that film critics are more “harsh” and discerning than regular punters, it tends to be critics hating a movie that the general movie-going public enjoyed. Why else would Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen rake in so much money despite a risible Rotten Tomatoes score? Occasionally, however, it will go the other way, and critics, with their broader mission – which will be to determine whether a film functions for the target audience at large – will praise a film that the series’ hardcore fans will nitpick into oblivion for betraying the source material. By their nature, film critics are not fanboys about many franchises – at least not in a conventional way – so they may give a free pass to something that the hardcore fans see as a real problem. Here are 10 movies critics loved that fanboys hated…
