The president proclaimed that the 2nd amendment needs to be addressed, and asked people to get involved in order for any changes to be made “We’re going to need voices in those areas and those congressional districts where the tradition of gun ownership is strong to speak up and to say this is important,” he said. The congress however stands it's ground claiming that the 2nd amendment is non-negotiable “Congress must stand firm for the entirety of the Constitution.” said Tim Huelskamp. Based on Obama's beliefs it's a social weakness as well as constitutional, and his powers are limited by the congress. All he promises is that he is ready to make an argument on constitutional grounds about the legality of banning firearm sales and other related issues.
