The Eastern seaboard is till looking pretty bad, two weeks after Sandy. This is what its looking like right now.

If you're in the Bay Area, Rebel (at Market and Octavia in San Francisco) is throwing a benefit TONIGHT from 8-10pm. All proceeds go to the Red Cross to help victims of Sandy. Minimum donation is $20, though the suggested donation is $50. If you can't make it tonight, head out to Local Edition in SoMa on Sunday from 4-8pm for SF <3 New York. All proceeds from this even will go to help out bars in the tri-state area affected by Sandy. Tickets are $25/head. 21+ event. More information here. Since Obama's victory last week, a few Southern states are really riled up. Some individuals are going so far as to say that they don't want a "n***er" in the White House, while others are going even farther and creating petitions for their states to secede. The Texas petition was the first, and most detailed, listing complaints such as the Transportation Security Administration and the National Defense Authorization Act, which petitioners called "blatant abuses" of their rights. According to the White House website, if any petition garners 25,000 signatories, the administration will respond. Previous petitions have asked the U.S. government to acknowledge the existence of extraterrestrials and to reveal the White House beer recipe, along with countless others dealing with the legalization of marijuana. A new documentary called Buffalo Girls goes inside the world of child blood sport by following two 8-year-old girls who compete in Muay Thai matches as a way of earning money for their families. This underground circuit apparently has upwards of 30,000 participants, many of whom obviously endure serious injuries. Thailand is a poor country, and these families are struggling for money, but some things seem to cross the line of "Oh, it's just a different culture" acceptability. Adults surrounding a ring, waving money as two children beat the shit out of each other is most likely one of those things.
