Oh yeah baby. You KNOW I'll be on that Gaga news.
05 sep 2013 23:26

Lady Gaga will reportedly appear on ‘Saturday Night Live‘ for the third time come this fall, but unlike her past appearances, Mother Monster will be acting as both the host and the musical guest during an episode of the long-running comedy program. This will put Gaga in the same ranks as Justin Timberlake who recently did double duty on the show in one of the better episodes, as well as Justin Bieber, who was reportedly a good sport. A rep for NBC refused to comment on the reported lineup. Gaga has previously acted in small sketches on the show, including a digital short with Timberlake and Andy Samberg and a face off with Madonna as herself. She will also make her acting debut on the big screen next month in the purposeful B-movie ‘Machete Kills.’ She’s not going into this completely blind. Basically, the 39th season of the sketch comedy show is in for an interesting year. Even more so if Lindsay Lohan says yes to hosting for her sixth time.

Here's Jason Alexander Teaching Larry David to Play George Costanza
05 sep 2013 18:24
This is a little tricky to wrap your brain around — Jason Alexander teaching Larry David how to play George Costanza. It’s the actor who played George Costanza on ‘Seinfeld’ teaching the creator of Costanza how to play Costanza while filming the ‘Seinfeld’ reunion on an episode of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ even though Costanza is his alter-ego. Basically it’s just a lot of Larry David shouting. You *like* Larry David shouting, remember?

Epic Movie Trailer Narrator Pranks Hapless Pedestrians
05 sep 2013 18:24
This prank shows what it would be like if your life had a professional narrator, like in a cheesy movie trailer. Turns out it wouldn’t be very much fun, actually. The folks at Break partnered up with the guy who narrates all of the Honest Trailers to have a little fun. Using a headset to provide some dialogue, the narrator trailed behind people walking down the sidewalk and gave their lives a little voice over action. Fortunately for the narrator, nobody decided to punch him in the face. We thought it might happen. Guess *that* joke was on us.

Ever wish that you could take your Science Nerdyness to the next level? Well these people have by taking their favorite science interest and tattooing it on them. Tattoo a practice dated 5,200-years-ago, was originally applied by a sharp stick and ink, now has become $2.3 billion annual business in the U.S. To give a perspective of how common tattoos are, National Geographic stated, 15% of Americans were tattooed translating to approximately 40 million people, published in April 2000. Carl Zimmerl, a well established published science writer and blogger asked his geeky internet audience to share their science tattoos, to publish Science Ink. Below are some of his collection.

What does your voice actually sound like?
05 sep 2013 14:17
You’ve probably heard your voice in a recording and thought do I really sound like that? The voice you heard sounded weird and foreign to your ears. This is because when you speak, the sound you hear is manipulated by the structure of your face. Most likely you didn’t enjoy what you heard, but there is hope! The process of digital recording can distort the sound of your voice (especially when using something like a digital camera). Your ears are a much more reliable source for hearing your true voice; you just have to figure out how to do it. Watch this video from vocal coach Chris Beatty to find out how.

T-Shirts Lost In Translation

This is a series called English (Emphasis on “ISH”). It features t-shirts being sold in Tokyo’s Shibuya shopping district, all of which contain a nugget of truth, like “Money is like much not not,” “SORRY Probably, he is smart?” and “Anyone asks donkey is feel better.” None of which makes any damn sense. Okay, except the one that says Detroit Murder City. That… is probably the most accurate description possible. The pics were actually taken by my big brother’s childhood best friend’s friend, Alan. I hope he bought all of them. If he didn’t, well, Alan? You f***ed up. HARD. Send me a souvenir?

Job Applicants Think the World Is Ending, Scares The Hell Out of Them
05 sep 2013 13:36
magine coming in for a job interview, bright and ready to prove yourself and earn a living, when things take a turn for the worst and a meteor destroys your city. Bummer. While we do hope that no such thing happens anywhere any time soon, an advertisement stunt set up by LG in Chile has shown just how funny it can be when the people coming for an interview have no idea that the meteor they are seeing outside is actually a fake. The job applicants all sit down for an interview in an office where LG‘s new HDTV is set up to look like a window out onto the city. Hidden cameras capture their reactions as a meteor slowly enters the “window’s” field of view and impacts the city’s center. When the interviewees panic, the interviewer runs out of the room, leaving the applicants to scramble about in the dark while they are observed with night-vision cameras. Although some suspect the interviewees of being actors, it’s still an interesting way of marketing one’s product. What do you think? Is it a fun prank, or distasteful terrorization?

Landscapes, Joseph Ford
05 sep 2013 13:27
For an odd yet impressive series of images, photographer Joseph Ford combined some of his aerial photography with images of clothing so that elements of each photo flowed seamlessly into the other. Some are as simple as one square in a picture of a flannel shirt lining up with a roofline in the aerial shot. Others are more complex — dunes in a desert matching up with wrinkles on a sweater…

Explosive Photos of the Burning Man Spaceship in Flames

Photos are just starting to emerge of this year's Burning Man, the annual festival that draws tens of thousands to Nevada's hot Black Rock Desert for one week each year to become a part of a special group dedicated to art, community, self-reliance and self-expression. This year, 61,000 people attended the near sold out event where they were able to witness first-hand the famous Burning Man figure (otherwise known as The Man) and the spaceship-like pavilion he's standing on burn dramatically to the ground.

Surreally Absurd GIFs by Bill Domonkos
05 sep 2013 12:57
Visual artist and experimental filmmaker Bill Domonkos manipulates archive photos and old film footage into surreally absurd gifs. The multifaceted artist's otherworldly creations reflect his fascination with repurposing and combining moving images of yesteryear. Each gif is wackier than the next, presenting a wild scene clearly accomplished with digital editing and special effects. Domonkos' affinity for working with vintage, black and white images adds to the curious nature of his work. His altered take on the past is like one big sci-fi experiment, reminiscent of early avant-garde cinema. Instead of a simple portrait of a woman's profile, the artist adds his creative touch to simulate a kinetic mechanism running endlessly on a her headgear. In Domonkos' world, it is almost fitting that a projection of a jockey riding his race horse plays on a loop in a sink bowl.

Jon Stewart Dropped Some Truth Bombs On The Whole War With Syria Thing
05 sep 2013 11:20
Sort of lost in the excitement of Jon Stewart’s epic return to the Daily Show last night was the fact that he delivered a hilarious but poignant rant segment on the situation with Syria, a situation that increasingly points to war – despite the Obama White House’s insistence to not call it “war” – with each passing day. And what we’ve been told is the main justification for some form of military intervention in Syria is that its leader, Bashar al-Assad, has allegedly killed scores of his own people using chemical weapons. Gee, where have we heard that one before? (Note to authoritarian rulers: if you want to kill a bunch of your own citizens, do it with machetes and guns and other more conventional weaponry and there won’t be any trouble.) “You can’t use chemicals to kill your own people, you have to do it organically!” Stewart said. “America and the world want to make sure Assad only uses locally-sourced free long-range ordnance.” After playing a series of clips of the usual idiot cable news pundits insisting that by not bombing Syria — the secret motivation for which some naturally think has more to do with the Western world’s insatiable thirst for fossil fuels than it does with humanitarian efforts — Obama would look weak, Stewart reminded us that if the United States were a person it’d more often than not be a schoolyard bully, and one ravished with insecurity over having a little dick at that. “So given the fact that we have no idea who would have control over these chemical weapons in a failed Syria, remind us again why we have to do this?” Stewart asked. “Oh right, we have to bomb Syria because we’re in seventh grade. And the red line that they crossed is actually a dick-measuring ribbon.” Enjoy…

'Breaking Bad' Best Show Ever, Says Guinness
05 sep 2013 10:52
Walter White, he knows all about your operation, your “TV show.” His partners tell him that you’re producing a series that’s 70% great, if you’re lucky. What he stars on, Breaking Bad, is 99.1% masterpiece. “So?” you might be asking yourself. “So,” Walt responds, “it’s grade-school T-ball versus the New York Yankees, but, like, the good New York Yankees, not the current limping New York Yankees. They’re terrible. What I am is classic Coke.” “Who the hell are you?” all other TV shows ask. “You know exactly who I am. Say my show’s name.” “Do what…? I don’t, I don’t have a damn clue who the hell you are.” “Yeah, you do. I’m the star of the greatest TV show of all-time, according to Guinness World Records.” “Bullsh*t. What about Homeboys in Outer Space?” “SAY. MY. SHOW’S. NAME.” “Breaking Bad.” “You’re goddamn right.”

New Trailer For 'Gravity' Shows Why James Cameron Praised It (VIDEO)
05 sep 2013 10:48
"I had a daughter. A little girl with brown hair. Tell her that I’m not quitting." So says Sandra Bullock while floating in space in the new trailer for Gravity. It’s director Alfonso Cuarón’s first feature film since 2006′s Children Of Men, and the beautiful long shots have totally sold me on this. The first 17 or so minutes of Gravity are one unbroken shot, which may be why other directors are praising it. Guillermo Del Toro said it’s five years ahead of its time. Earlier this week, James Cameron also lauded it in a Variety interview. “I was stunned, absolutely floored. I think it’s the best space photography ever done, I think it’s the best space film ever done, and it’s the movie I’ve been hungry to see for an awful long time,” Cameron said. The new trailer below includes some footage from previous clips, but it also gives us more backstory on Bullock’s character and extra scenes of her and George Clooney trying to save themselves. Warner has made the new trailer available in 2K HD. We recommend checking this out in the highest resolution. We also recommend bringing a change of pants to the theater.

Beatles 'Abbey Road' Medley Isolated Vocals Track
05 sep 2013 10:47
The Abbey Road medley is the musical equivalent of goulash. It’s made with a little bit of everything, including leftover tracks from the White Album and Let It Be sessions, most of which were written by Paul McCartney. It’s also notable because “The End” contains Ringo Starr’s only drum solo as a Beatle. Meaning, because Abbey Road was recorded after Let It Be, Ringo had to wait until the penultimate Beatles song to show off his skills…on a song called “The End.” And now that someone has removed all those pesky instruments from the medley, leaving only Paul and John’s vocals, it’s as if Ringo’s greatest accomplishment never happened. He is the Charlie Brown of people.

The 16 Best Lines From The Season Premiere Of FXX's 'The League'
05 sep 2013 10:46
New station, new night, same old The League. Last night’s premiere of the FXX series may not have been as good as some of the best episodes of the series, but it was good to have the gang back in our lives (and as importantly, it signaled the arrival of fantasy football season). The premiere tried to do what last season’s rape joke episode did in taking something that would seem off limits, in the case AIDS, and turn it into a recurring punchline. The results were mixed to good, although the episode — as usual — hit its highs when Rafi was onscreen. He got an assist from Seth Rogen’s Dirty Randy (and Rob Huebel) and the Domination League (making us all the more excited for Dirty Randy and Rafi’s episode later this season). Here were the 17 best lines from the episode, and as always in The League discussions, if you leave a comment or share the post, you get a The League badge.

What's The Fox Say? The Most Informative Music Video Has The Answer.
05 sep 2013 10:45
Please enjoy (or at least stare confusedly at) this music video, “The Fox”, from the Norwegian talk show I kveld med YLVIS. It answers the question, “What would happen if you made a schmaltzy pop song with high production values then devolved into silly animal sounds?” Nobody asked the question, but they answered it anyway. Sketch group Ylvis is the brothers Bård and Vegard Ylvisåker, who have been making surreal and funny stuff like this for the past 13 years. (Sidenote: “Bård Ylvisåker” is the Norwegianist name that’s ever Norwegianed.) Once in a while, something they make starts going viral outside Norway, like their “voice controlled elevator” pranks. This absurd video seems poised to be a crossover hit. The top YouTube comment is, “Play this at my funeral” and we’re inclined to agree.

Yahoo!'s New Logo Isn't As Good As Its Fake Ones
05 sep 2013 10:38
In case you’d forgotten, or more likely hadn’t noticed, Yahoo! is rolling out a new logo today, after spending thirty days showing off “old” logos. Yes, they’ve wanted us to get excited over typefaces, and I write “us” because I’ve had a Yahoo! email address for more than a decade now. And above is the end result. First of all, it is kind of condescending to try and get us hyped up over a logo. “Here, get excited about a signifier for a brand that few people will actually care about, and as a brand, barely even qualifies as a logo!” Secondly, a month of demanding attention for this? This has an announcement video, because of course it does.

Scientists Prove Video Games Actually Keep Your Mind Sharp
05 sep 2013 10:36
According to a new study conducted by cognitive scientists at the University of California, your mom was totally wrong about the whole “video games rot your brain” thing. In fact, it would probably do her some good to pick up a controller herself. And it’s not just games that make iffy-sounding claims about “training your brain” that are beneficial — this latest study has found that pretty much any game that requires a lot of multitasking can make a brain think younger… Basically, the scientists at UC created their own simple video game in which you have to drive a car while paying attention to certain signs that pop up on screen. Initially younger players in their 20s did better than players in their 70s or 80s, but with a bit of training the codgers became just as good at the game as the kids. In fact, most actually became better at the game than your average 20-year-old playing it for the first time. Even more interesting, these old people continued to “think young” and function at a higher cognitive level even after the game was shut off. The effects of mastering the game also lasted for a long time — up to six months. Oh, and video games aren’t just good for dusty old-person brains either. Another study has shown that multitasking-heavy video games can also help young people ignore distractions and learn. So wait, a game where you drive a car while also paying attention to roadside distractions improves brain function? Roadside distractions like oh, I dunno, screaming pedestrians, cops and health-restoring hookers? Well, I don’t see any way around it — now that we have this new information it would be a crime against brains to not install Grand Theft Auto V in every old folks home and school in America.
