Gorgeous Typography Jewelry Speaks a Universal Language
07 mar 2013 08:08
We can't get enough of Ebon Heath and his awesome talents with typography. The Brooklyn-based artist finds all kinds of new things to do with the letters of the world. In this unique collection of jewelry, Heath collaborated with Dubai-based jewelry designer Mona Ibrahim to create an ornamental collection that can be worn by everyone. The sculpted letters are both English and Arabic in the form of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings that display a universal language. Individuals can wrap themselves in these beautiful messages that are formed out of laser cut leather and acrylics and ponder Heath's proposed question: "If we adorn ourselves with positive mantras of words, how does that give us reminders of things to value and keep dear?"

Wieliczka Salt Mine: An Underground Salt Art Gallery
07 mar 2013 09:28
The Wieliczka Salt Mine, located in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland, has a unique position in the history of salt mining. Built in the 13th century, this mine was in operation for 700 years producing rock salt without interruption until 2007, becoming one of the world's oldest running salt mines. The scale of excavation in this mine is huge – a complex labyrinth of corridors, galleries, and chambers, totaling more than 300km in length on several levels. But the miners who worked there did more than just mine salt. Over the centuries, these miners working underground had established a tradition of carving sculptures out of the native rock salt. This include dozens of statues, three chapels, altars, bas-reliefs, and an entire cathedral, even the chandeliers that hang from the ceiling. It is an astonishing sight, one that draws over a million tourists from around the world each year.

Minimalist Black and White Photography by Hossein Zare
07 mar 2013 09:31
Iranian photographer Hossein Zare presents a powerful series of black and white pictures that symbolize our journey through life. Stripped of unnecessary details, his photographs gives you the bare feeling of undefined destination in life, represented by the traveling man and other metaphors of life, such as a tree or a road. The concise titles of the photos (“In Vain”, “To…”, “Distance”) make them even more eloquent. A gallery definitely worth exploring!
