Could you transform as raspberry into a wasp? Or the common potato to a octopus? Here’s project that is as colorful as it is fun. Vanessa Dualib is a photographer based in Brazil who looks at food in a vastly different way to you and I (much like Terry Border). Her new series titled Brincando Com a Comida (translation ‘Playing With Food’) sees her bring all manner of fruits and vegetables to life. She’s combined two of her biggest passions, photography and food, to create images that funny & inventive in equal amounts.

You might have seen those rather funny retro furniture catalogs from the 1950’s at various garage sales and charity shops. A funny reminder of times gone by, when all people worried about was whether the sofa set would match the lampshade. But visual artist Nadine Boughton is adding her own twist to these aspiration images of yesteryear, by adding in illustrations from numerous adventure stories also from the same era. As the overall aesthetic and even fading of the both the books and illustrations is similar, the end result is a collage that looks startlingly real. We reckon she must have a great deal of fun creating these works, starting off with a sense of tranquility and calm, before adding in some god-forsaken monster or wild animal into the scene! Everyone agrees, life was a lot easier when you were a kid. It was also a lot more fun at times – you could squirt the neighbors with a gigantic water pistol, shriek with laughter and then duly bound down the street with glee, utterly carefree. Do that as an adult and you’ll more than likely get sued from that same neighbor on account of causing “mental distress”. Alas, some people don’t know how to have fun these days. Photographer Dominik Smialowski and child-like artist Monika Prus are all too aware of this fact. They’re the duo behind these melancholy images, which serve to highlight the contrast between that carefree kid and bleak reality of an adults world – where life just has a habit of getting in the way.

For those of you that don’t know, GoPro is range of cameras that are designed to withstand the toughest and harshest environments. Extreme skiers strap them to their bodies to shoot unbelievable footage as they leap off mountains whilst soldiers have used them on their helmets in Libya to broadcast the revolution unfolding before their eyes. Next in line is photographer Josh Maready, who bolted a GoPro onto his skateboard and took us for a ride through the streets of New York City. Strap yourself in, it’s one hell of a ride.

Admit it, you would have LOVED to have been there! On July 31st, 2011 a world record was attempted for the most hot air balloons taking off at once. The location? France’s Chambley-Bussieres Aerodrome and although the world record was not confirmed, the Lorraine Mondail Air Balloons international festival did smash it’s own record of 393 balloons taking off simultaneously back in 2009, with 343 balloons lifting off into the clouds this year!. According to the festival, “1032 drivers from forty-eight nations, 2672 crew members, 174 businesses and communities, 195 volunteers and nearly 400 journalists” were all involved in the event – that’s some serious numbers, but what a spectacle they’ve created. Thankfully, 2 CELLOS – the Croatian cello duo of Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser (they hit the YouTube jackpot with their cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” and later the Guns N Roses classic “Welcome To The Jungle.”) are keeping the Nirvana spirit alive with their fantastic cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” Extra points and an extended round of applause for the headbanging as well. She’s the talented illustrator behind these jaw-dropping photo realistic portraits of some of our most loved characters in pop culture. “I started doing digital paintings since 2003 – just messing around with Photoshop 7. Art has always been a big part of my life. For many years it served as my outlet of creativity. From a simple sketch to a rendered portrait, I’ve always been able to discover a new technique when creating a piece of art. Back in 2005, I decided to take this style more seriously, looking into more details, depth and color with each piece. Based in New York, Lauren Peralta is a photographer and model without inhibitions. These beautiful images are testament to that fact – all of them are self portraits. She quite literally lets the photographs do the talking, simply stating “Photos of me, by me.” Two thumbs up from us! Great stuff.

Turns out VICE have launched a new book Fashion Cats, which (yes you’ve guessed it) features the cutest cat outfits by Japanese cat fashion designer Takako Iwasa. Now that she has stepped out of the shadow of her role as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter, it’s unknown what the future holds for talented actress and fashion model. One thing you can be certain of, she’ll always be fondly remember for her part in the Harry Potter phenomenon. She portrayed character of the teen wizard Hermione with grace, a quiet resilience and dare we say more than a little magic.

We all know the Japanese can be more than a little kooky - but even this takes the cake. Before you watch this utterly surreal Japanese poodle workout video (which I guarantee will make you sit there and simply yell W.T.F repeatedly) we thought we should give you a little background to it. It was made by Nagi Noda for Panasonic (money well spent anyone?) and originally was part of 10 films they made for the 2004 Athens Olympics. Why did they make it? Why does it star poodles working out? Why did it make the Top 10? Who knows. In fact, truth be told, we can’t even tell if the poodles are CGI or actual PEOPLE wearing poodle outfits – that’s how odd this video is. In the end we gave up trying to understand it. Taking some of the world’s leading alcohol brands like Jack Daniel’s & Absolut Vodka, he’s reworked, redesigned and repackaged them as milk cartons. I find it strangely amusing, expecting to see “Dariy Farmers Low Fat Milk” and instead being presented with Jägermeister (and lets face it, it would certainly spark and interesting conversation around the breakfast room table.) Hats off to Jorn for successfully highlighting the importance of packaging and indeed design when it comes to branding and doing so in a fun and irreverent way. Would you drink your favorite alcoholic brands from a carton instead of a bottle or can? Let me guess, so long as it gets you drunk, it doesn’t matter right? Hahaha.

French photographer and Harley-Davidson rider Sacha Goldberger decided to shoot a series of photographs dedicated to his fellow riders and passion. His aim, to show that being a Harley-Davidson owner isn’t merely a hobby – but a genuine lifestyle choice. You might be wondering why some of the photos feature the drivers shot from behind – that’s because their nicknames stitched onto the backs of their jackets. This will make you feel warm and fuzzy. Brazilian footwear maker Melissa teamed up with 3M to create an wonderful exhibition at the opening of their São Paulo flagship store – Galeria Melissa. They took an amazing 350,000 colored Post-its, 30,000 of which had spontaneous messages of love written on them from the local community. The end result is heart-warming time-lapse video which itself took 5 months to finish.
