Many of us have heard the expressions "cool as a cucumber" or "easy as pie." In this playful collection of food art, London-based designer Christine Kawasaki-Chan took those phrases to the next level, creating a series in which each food idiom comes to life right before our eyes. The artist created compositions that naturally blend her incredible lettering skills with a variety of delicious foods pairings. Using basic items like bread, cucumbers, and pie crust as her unique canvas, Kawasaki-Chan produced perfectly scripted, edible letters. The first few words of the idioms are formed out of the toasted impressions on the surface of bread, the delicate curls of a cucumber peel, and the perfectly carved crusts of a baked pie. Viewers are left to complete the sentence on their own using the context clues and their knowledge of the English language. The artist's clever word play is a gorgeous display of typography in the form of deliciously appealing snacks.
You’ve seen couples trying to match each other by just wearing clothes with the same colors and designs – sometimes it works and sometimes it just looks lame and boring. Adam and Sarah from San Francisco, CA, is a couple on Kickstarter that’s trying to change the way couples “match” each other with t-shirts that make sense only when the pair wears them next to each other. The designs are about love, sometimes abstract and sometimes not, but they all play on the simple concept that they have to be worn together for the meaning to be truly understood.
National Geographic Traveler Photo contest is coming to an end, so it’s high time we took a look at some of the best entries. The submissions will be accepted till June 30th, so those who want to participate, hurry up and submit your photos in one of the categories of Travel Portraits, Outdoor Scenes, Sense of Place and Spontaneous Moments. The first prize winner will go on an expedition to the Galápagos with the National Geographics team, while runner-ups will receive the publicity and honor of having his or her photo published in the National Geographic Traveler magazine or website. That should make the competition pretty intense! In order to pick the winner, the judging panel will convene for two judging rounds: 10 candidates will be selected in Round 1, with the final winner announced after Round 2. All entries will be judged by creativity and photographic quality, each comprising 50% of the mark. The winners will be announced on or around July 31st, so the suspense won’t be too long! You can already see some of the editors picks, all of which seem to be worthy of recognition! “Harness the power of photography and share your stunning travel experiences from around the globe with us,” invite the organizers – and if you’re not a photographer yourself, you will definitely enjoy the gallery. Here are some of the most incredible wildlife entries – good luck to all the participants!
Germany-based illustrator Tobias Wüstefeld has created intricate sculptures of Super Mario Bros.levels on top of animal skulls. The detailed sculptures feature a tiny Mario, miniature goombas and koopas, and even power-ups like the red mushroom and fire flower. Check it out!
This clip might not be as impressive as some other trick shot videos but it is pretty awesome considering it was all done in one single take of a 90 second video. This interesting ice cube stunt video is pretty fun. Take a look!
Do you remember Troy McClure from something, but you’re not quite sure what? Watch this supercut! It’s all the things you may remember Troy McClure, the apparently always employed actor from ‘The Simpsons,’ from. Granted, we don’t actually get to see any of these, but you may remember him from saying that you may remember him from them. What? We just confused ourselves.
Woah. I mean, what kind of life must you lead that you feel compelled to get out of your car, walk up to a drive-thru window, and chew out a Wendy’s employee — WHO MAKES $7 AN HOUR — because they put cheese on your hamburger? Good God, fella. Get ahold of yourself. Pathetic. “Double Hamburger. Is there CHEESE in a hamburger … I want my money back, and I want it FAST.” Take a pill man, and maybe stop and consider that it may be the crappy fast food that’s turned you into a beast. And look out insane Dunkin’ Donuts lady, you’ve got competition.
Well this is certainly a nice gesture: Moby is offering a substantial portion of his catalog to “independent and non-profit filmmakers, film students and anyone in need of free music for their independent, non-profit film, video or short” via Mobygratis.com. If any of the music is used in a film that turns a profit, then the proceeds Moby would normally receive will go to the Humane Society. As Short Form Blog points out, he’s not the first to make such an offer to aspiring/amateur filmmakers. "Back in the ’70s and ’80s, novelist Stephen King started doing something similar, giving budding filmmakers the rights to his short stories for a dollar. While most of the people who created films based on King’s short stories didn’t become famous, one did: Frank Darabont, the guy who directed the “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Green Mile”—both films based on King stories. Oh, and Darabont created a little series you might have heard of called “The Walking Dead.”" Well there you go. Moby is a nice guy who also enjoys condomless sex with pretty young brunettes. Good on him.
The leaves are green, the sun is shining. ‘Tis the season of… wait for it… high school graduations. Yes, it’s that time of year for the high school boys and girls to enter the real world — the real world of college, that is. So in honor of school letting out for the summer, we’ve put together a round up of our favorite high school memes.
One of the most popular sports around the world, soccer (or should we say, football) is super fun to watch. And any soccer fan knows that the only thing more amusing than a sick goal is an epic soccer fail. Check out some great GIFs of what can only be described as total fails. You’ve never seen soccer like this before!
We’d probably be upset too, if somebody told us we were going to meet Iron Man, and we actually met Robert Downey, Jr. in a polo shirt … if we were 18 months old, which is why this kid is crying. If *we* met Robert Downey, Jr., we would probably just find the nearest closet to hide in, to avoid humiliating ourselves in front of somebody we’ve had a crush on since whenever ‘Weird Science’ came out. It looks like this kid’s outdoors, so we would probably be crying because there are no closets. At least RDJ tried to make him feel better. Check out the cute photos below.
Good ol’ dad. You wouldn’t exist if not for him. But that’s not all that makes dads great. Let’s not forget their penchant for terrible jokes. Combine that with technology, and you’ve got some text treasures on your hands. Here’s just a smattering of ridiculous dad texts to honor dads for Father’s Day.
Guys, pageant contestants aren’t just pretty faces — they’re also extremely capable of saying things so incoherently stupid that it gives you a headache. Here was the question: “A recent report shows that in 40& of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?” Not since Miss Teen South Carolina have we seen such a confusing response to a fairly straightforward question. Sincerely, look at Jezebel for maybe one day a year, and you should be able to at least bluff your way through that one. Instead, what happened? No really, what happened — we genuinely don’t know. This immediately popped to mind:
Whether you love or hate Kanye’s new album ‘Yeezus’ (or haven’t heard it yet because it hasn’t *technically* been released), you’re going to love this track. It’s the “I Am a Dog” remix of ‘I Am a God.’ Kanye maybe takes himself a little bit too seriously (for a rapper who complains about his croissants taking too long to get to the table) so this dog adds a wonderful touch of levity. NSFW, because Kanye is serious these days, and that means he’s swearing. A lot. Enjoy!
