He might not adorn glossy magazine covers or be sponsored by a perfume brand, but German film composer and music producer Hans Zimmer in many ways defines Hollywood. He’s composed the musical score for well over 100 films, many of which have been fantastically popular and incredibly successful. He’s the musical mastermind behind the soundtracks for the likes of The Dark Knight, Inception, Crimson Tide, Gladiator, The Last Samurai and even The Lion King – a universal classic. Cartoon Characters All Grown Up
09 jul 2013 12:48
Artist and Tumblr-er Celeste Pille imagines popular cartoon characters from the 90s as grown ups. Her illustrations cover Pepper Ann, all the Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, even the sudents from The Magic School Bus. Unfortunately, I didn’t see any Doug or Captain Planet, but I’m not one to complain. Actually I am one to complain, but never one to do anything about it. I’m basically all that’s wrong in the world!

Creative Celebrity Pizza Portraits by Domenico Crolla
09 jul 2013 12:30
Glasgow-based Italian chef Domenico Crolla both runs his restaurant Bella Napoli and creates celebrity pizza portraits. The restauranteur/artist uses nothing more than your basic pizza ingredients—dough as his canvas, tomato sauce and cheese to "paint" and play with negative space—to produce each of his well-crafted portraits. He puts his skilled hands to use to recreate the image of musicians, actors, and international fashion icons. Crolla's growing collection of portraits already feature classic icons like Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra as well as current pop stars like Rihanna and Beyoncé. Other well-known faces include fashion icons Anna Wintour, Tom Ford, and Karl Lagerfeld. Crolla has even thrown TV personality and chef Gordon Ramsey into the mix. The face that began the ongoing artistic adventure in the kitchen, though, is that of the late martial arts and action film superstar Bruce Lee. Following this pie, Crolla received a "thank you" note from Lee's daughter Shannon which encouraged him to pursue his artisan craft. He continues to do so today, especially after receiving countless messages of recognition and gratitude from many other celebrities.

And painting is my big passion.” Check out his amazing works, including the latest and most impressive body painting – a tree frog, which was created using five human models.

Nicki Minaj Grabs Stripper’s Bootay While at Gentlemen’s Club

Nicki Minaj got down and dirty at a gentlemen’s club in Queens, N.Y. last night (July 7). The ‘Pink Friday’ rapper dove right into the action — and there’s photographic evidence on her newly created Instagram account to prove it. The snapshot above features Minaj grabbing a stripper’s butt while sticking out her tongue in a playful fashion. “I love bad bitches dats my f—in problem,” reads the text beneath the photo. Another snapshot shows her popping her bodacious booty in a dancer’s lap with the caption, “I endorse these strippers.”

7 Depressing Alternate Endings That Were Way Better Than The Originals
08 jul 2013 15:59

Call me a glutton for punishment, but I don’t believe in Happy Endings quite as strongly as Hollywood seems to: the grimmer and more emotionally affecting an ending, the more enduring it is in the memory. There’s no chance Se7en would be as profound as it is if the final shot was a post-credits reveal of Gwyneth Paltrow with her head still attached, and I can’t help but shake the feeling that Buzz and Woody would have been better off melted, rather than being forced to face more future rejection when Bonny grows up. Adversity and depression inevitably lead to the most profound works of art, it’s just simple science. So it’s always deeply upsetting when Hollywood has the chance to make a statement with a grim ending and then drops it in favour of something more upbeat. Sometimes, the original, or alternate endings where everyone dies, or life doesn’t all turn up flowers and roses are far superior to the Hallmark-inspired garbage we end up being fed. So with that in mind, here we have 12 depressing movie endings that would have actually improved their movies, and why Hollywood probably wimped out of using them…

5 Films With Cat Based Horror Mayhem
08 jul 2013 15:51
Our feline friends have a long history in Cinema of being attached to malevolence. Much more so than dogs, who in reality may seem more avuncular than cats, but are far more likely to cause real physical damage to the body should they turn malevolent. It is not hard to cast a massive rabid St Bernard like Cujo as an instrument of terror. And it is easy to crap yourself when confronted with him. All cats can really do is swipe at you with their claws, but the great thing is that directors have tried to make them horror bad guys in several films that are either laughably silly or genius, with the mediocre in between. I have selected a choice of five films which feature baddie cats. I live in fear of ever encountering them – purr me.

Wimbledon Champ Andy Murray Is Courting Us Pretty Hard
08 jul 2013 15:04
Even if you don’t watch tennis, by now you probably know that Andy Murray won Wimbledon yesterday — and we certainly wouldn’t mind helping him drink some champagne out of the giant gold chalice of a trophy. I don’t watch tennis; in fact, I don’t watch sports of any kind, but that’s not keeping me — and you, if you’re anything like me — from swooning over Andy Murray. I mean, he looks like Andrew Garfield after a hard night of drinking turned him into a legit man. Not to say that Andrew Garfield isn’t manly, of course, but Andy Murray looks like Andrew Garfield on a testosterone high. And he’s athletic, which gives him another sexy advantage. Anyway, Murray is also the 2012 Olympic tennis champ — which makes it even more remarkable that as a child, the Scottish hottie was diagnosed with a problem in which the two parts of his knee never quite fused together like they’re supposed to. Clearly, though, he overcame that to kick major ass on the court, thus making him all the more inspiring.

She had the inspired idea to illustrate Disney’s most popular Princesses wearing clothing and accessories which were unique to the time period the film was originally set in. Elegantly drawn and beautifully coloured, it makes you wonder why Disney themselves didn’t put in that extra bit of work and to recreate their characters a little more accurately? Then again, Disney is all about the stuff of fairy tales isn’t it. You can see more drawings and rich illustrations by Claire via her official DeviantART profile - do let us know is your fav!

How The World's Greatest Minds Influenced Each Other
08 jul 2013 14:40
Over the centuries our understanding and interpretation of what creativity is, has altered drastically. The more we’ve experimented with it, the more we’ve learnt. For starters, it doesn’t exist in a vacuum, it needs to be paired with knowledge to maximise its potential. Secondly, creativity and curiosity make the perfect partnership constantly driving each other and finally, you actually need to create in order to be creative. The last point seems self-explanatory, but the world is full of individuals out there who deem themselves “creative”, talk lots and produce little. The root of all forms of creativity lies within the power of inspiration – without that spark, we’d still be fumbling around in the darkness. Thankfully, the following individuals have had a truly illuminating effect on our world – inspiring the scientific , artistic and philosophical communities to new daring heights. The ‘Circles Of Influence’ is a fascinating infographic that looks at the symbiotic relationships historical figures have had with creativity. Meticulously mapped out by Michelle Legro and Maria Popova and elegantly brought to life by illustrator Wendy Macnaughton it’s a revealing look at how the world’s greatest minds influenced and inspired one another. Even the very best need a little push every now and then.

Photos Of Men In Their Girlfriends’ Outfits

This is a series of photos by Jon Uriarte called ‘The Men Under The Influence’. The pics features guys dressed up in their girlfriend’s clothing, NOT a bunch drunk dudes as I had initially expected. Per the photographer: [The project] adresses the recent change in roles in heterosexual relationships from the relationships of our predecessors and how those changes have affected men in particular. the photos attempt to capture men’s sense of loss reference, now that women have taken a step forward and have finally come into their own as equal partners.

Adorable Love Illustrations Filled With Twists and Turns
08 jul 2013 12:06
Spain-based graphic designer and illustrator Marta Colomer (aka Maruta) is behind TuttiConfetti, adorable character illustrations about love, relationships, and life. Though quite simple, the illustrations are often paired with short stories that are filled with twists and turns. On the surface, you can enjoy many of these cute works for what they are, but take a moment to read some of the stories and you'll be in for quite the surprise. The 39-year-old freelance illustrator describes TuttiConfetti this way, "To me, it has become a wishing well where I drop all my hopes, my sorrows and even my particular life point of view. I try to talk about everyday things but without falling into sentimental and kitschy stereotypes. Inspiration comes to me day by day, looking at whatever is going on around me including the happenings of today's society, with all the rights and wrongs. "My illustrations go a little bit beyond a simple drawing, throughout them I try to address common people with everyday problems but with a witty speech. My goal is to make people think and grin at the same time."

Exclusive Preview: 'Demon Knights' #22: The Comic you should Read
05 jul 2013 18:04
Demon Knights is DC's high fantasy series featuring Etrigan, Madame Xanadu, and a whole host of DC's fantasy characters as they fight magical menaces and dig up surprising ties to other DC books. And now they're after what all magical super teams have to search for eventually: The Holy Grail. The book is engaging not least because it's had a string of superb writers. Paul Cornell launched the book with the concept of a magical Magnificent Seven, and it's currently being written by Robert Venditti, who isn't shy about, say, having Vandal Savage stomped by giants if it serves his plot (and also if it happens to be pretty funny). Also, as we'll see, it's a bad idea to try and mug a bunch of magic users...

Check Out The First TV Spot For ‘Riddick’
05 jul 2013 18:03
The third installment in the Chronicles of Riddick series, simply titled Riddick, hits theaters on September 6 and stars Vin Diesel once again as the titular science-fiction antihero with the super cool abilities of being able to see in the dark and kick the asses of every species throughout the universe. Karl Urban returns with his intergalactic mullet as Vaako, while they’re joined by Katee Sackhoff, Dave Bautista, Bokeem Woodbine and others as the people out to finally capture the greatest fugitive of any galaxy, whose full name is Richard B. Riddick. It would seem that despite defeating their king, the Necromancers have turned on Riddick since Chronicles, and they left him on an empty planet to die alone. Of course, that won’t stop every bounty hunter in the universe from finding and trying to capture him and then, I’m sure, hilarity ensues. Anyway, Riddick’s new TV spot debuted yesterday, and it looks more Pitch Black than it does Chronicles, which is great for everyone, except for Judi Dench, who probably sobered up and skipped this one.

UFC 162's Silva Vs. Weidman Gets The Taiwan Animation Treatment

UFC 162 goes down tomorrow night, and Taiwan’s Next Media Animation has come through in the clutch with the best-possible preview of the show’s much-anticipated Anderson Silva/Chris Weidman title fight. Instead of arguing about whether Silva’s strikes will give him the advantage over Weidman’s ridiculous wrestling ability, Taiwan Animation has Silva kneeing off Iron Man’s head and Weidman using M.U.S.C.L.E. attacks on WWE’s John Cena. Yep. Oh, and the video ends with (who I assume is) Arianny Celeste beating up both of them. You should know the drill by now. Boston Pops Perform Amazing Tribute To Bombing 1st Responders

If you were busy checking out the fireworks in your locality, or if you were already passed out after your food and beer orgy with America, you may have missed the outstanding show the Boston Pops puts on every year in Boston for the Fourth of July. Given the events that transpired this year in Boston with the Marathon bombing and the subsequent manhunt, this year’s Boston Pops performance obviously carried more weight. It was therefore all that more special when MBTA Transit Police officer Dick Donohue, who was seriously wounded after a shootout with the bombing suspects, came out on crutches to lead the Pops in a rousing rendition of the Dropkick Murphy’s “I’m Shipping Up To Boston.” You don’t get more patriotic than the Dropkick Murphys (at least in Boston).
