‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ and J.J. Abrams: Reasons Why it's a Good Thing
25 jan 2013 14:05

The news that J.J. Abrams would be the man to direct ‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ and lead the ‘Star Wars‘ franchise into a new era was met with mixed response today. While there were many who loved the news, there were others quick to shout “lens flare!” and rain on the ‘Star Wars’ parade. J.J. Abrams might not be the most original director out there, but there is good reason to believe he is the man for the job.

Skateboards Transformed Into Immensely Beautiful Sculptures
23 jan 2013 16:21
Here’s a fantastic example of re-purposed art. Based in Tokyo, sculptor (and skateboarder) Haroshi is the talented individual behind these immensely beautiful works of art. Skateboards are built using several layers of coloured laminated wood, compressed together then stacked on top of each other. After several broken skateboards had been split open, Haroshi noticed these coloured stripes and began to saw his old skateboards down into separate pieces. From there he started using all the tiny fragments and sawn off pieces to build and create his sculptures piece by piece. A time-consuming and complex process for sure, but one which we think results in some fantastic visual works. He’s created sneakers, skulls and even characters (like a skateboarding cat!) and to date, he estimates he’s created over 40 different designs.

Iconic Business Cards Of The Rich And Famous
23 jan 2013 16:16
They do say you should never judge a book by it’s cover, but that doesn’t always apply when it comes to business cards. They’re designed to make a statement, generate impact and leave you with an impression. Some would say that Zuckerberg’s first attempt left a lot to be desired, but as you’re about to see, there’s no doubting the retro cool of Bill Gates’s card or the bling bling of Donald Trump faux gold foil business cards. Our personal favourite though has to go to Kevin Mitnick – a convicted criminal and serial hacker, who’s business card (it’s actually a lock pick tool set) is just as startling as the illegal feats he accomplished. Way back in 1995 he single-handily hijacked and broke into the servers of the likes of Motorla, Fujitsu and even Nokia stealing vital information and data.

This Artist Creates Artwork By Using His Own Blood
23 jan 2013 16:05
“People often want to offer me their blood, but I advise them to donate it to blood banks, which need it much more than art.” Those are the words of - Vinicius Quesada, a visual artist hailing from the streets of Brazil, who puts his body and soul into his artwork – literally. Below is a selection of works from a series he’s titled “Blood Piss Blues”, and far from being an deliberately shocking title to stir up controversy, it’s simple a genuine reference to the materials with which he’s created his art.

Believable Relationship Scenes Constructed in Photoshop
23 jan 2013 05:19
While at first glance these photos just look like two people captured in public and private moments, look a little closer and you'll notice that the subjects are identical looking. Twins, perhaps? One, single model acts out two different parts, reconstructing private relationships that the photographer has experienced, witnessed or seen on television.

Magical Reflections on Soap Bubbles
23 jan 2013 05:06
Though Richard Heeks first caught the world's attention when he captured the exact moment when a bubble bursts (see Reflection Perfect, immediately below), you'd be surprised to find out that the Huddersfield, UK-based photographer actually got into photographing soap bubbles for a completely different reason. Inspired by a scene in the movie Blade Runner, where there's a close-up shot of the human eye with fire reflected on the pupil and iris, Heeks decided he wanted to try his hand at photographing reflections in the eyes. One day, however, that all changed. He just so happened to blow soap bubbles and noticed how strangely beautiful the reflections appeared. "I got kind of obsessed with trying to photograph the reflections and trying all kinds of different bubble mixtures and photography techniques," he tells us.
