Fall Out Boy's 'Save Rock And Roll' Is 2013's Best Dumb Song...
09 apr 2013 20:21
...But also its most fun. Since their debut album in 2003, Take This to Your Grave, Fall Out Boy have followed a simple formula to mainstream success: huge, goofy anthems that are brilliant in their obviousness. Take “Dance, Dance,” for instance, a song you might hate, but can almost certainly recognize before a single word is uttered. The kick of the drums, the bass line lumbering like a giant, the shake of the tambourine — it’s a recipe for a great pop-rock song, which “Dance, Dance” is, as is the title track from the band’s new album, Save Rock and Roll.

'Pottering,' is The New 'Vadering'
09 apr 2013 20:13
In a short amount of time, the Internet has gone from "Kamehameha-ing" to "Vadering" to now, "Pottering," which Know Your Meme describes as, "a photo fad that entails photographing oneself leaping in the air with a broomstick tucked in between the legs in reference to Quidditch." What do those three memes have in common, outside of the fact that they originate from fanbases that describe themselves as "total nerds," even though Dragon Ball, Star Wars, and Harry Potter are three of the world's biggest franchises? They're all air-born activities, though only "Pottering" involves the use of a prop. And as Carrot Top taught us, everything's more fun with props. (It's true.) Here's the best of "Pottering" meme, with much help from Public Pottering.

Did a Murderer Use 'Confession Bear' To Reveal His Crime?!
09 apr 2013 20:10

Take this with a grain of salt, don’t believe everything you read, etc. etc. etc., but SOME GUY COMMITTED A MURDER AND CONFESSED TO IT VIA A MEME. I think I handled that well. Yesterday, a Redditor, who has since deleted his account, uploaded a Confession Bear to Quick Meme that read, “My sister had an abusive meth addict boyfriend/I killed him with his own drugs while he was unconscious and they ruled it as an overdose.” The anonymous would-be hero and/or hero, depending on your point of view, scrubbed his Reddit history clean, but “lionheart1610k” filled in the blanks quite well.

Tour The Ben & Jerry's Flavor Graveyard On Free Ice Cream Cone Day
09 apr 2013 20:05
Hey you. Sitting there at your desk, watching the clock tick ever so slowly toward 5pm, desperately needing something to brighten your dreary work day once it’s over — do you what today is? Free ice cream day at Ben & Jerry’s! In other words, one of the greatest days of the year. It also happens to be the company’s 35th anniversary. Speaking of Ben’s & Jerry’s, did you know that they actually have a flavor graveyard in remembrance of all their discontinued flavors? Well, they most certainly do! If you ever tour the Ben and Jerry’s factory in Waterbury, Vermont, stroll over to their Flavor Graveyard. It’s an actual graveyard—as in, there are headstones and it’s on a grassy knoll. And if you really wanted to, you could probably leave a bouquet. Below are a few pics of the site we found on Flickr. I love that they do this…

13 Tattoos That Make Us Go ‘Whaat!?’
09 apr 2013 19:34
Of course we know tattoos are permanent, which means the tattooed should usually opt for a design they wouldn’t mind having well into their twilight years. Luckily for us though, a lot of people don’t think that through and go for the weird. Like, really weird. A few months back we came across the whole sloth tattoo trend and, hey, who knows if sloths are super meaningful to someone. But there are loads of ink that just don’t make sense, like a sombrero-wearing pickle or Patrick Swayze as a stallion. We’re not ones to judge, but these tattoos make us go “whaat!?” Check them out below.

Man Pulls Off Flawless Human Chair Prank
09 apr 2013 19:33
Let’s close the case folks, because we’ve found the best video prank by far. In the newest YouTube video uploaded by user UCMagic, one prankster decided to conceal and outfit themselves flawlessly to look like the cushions of a coffee shop chair. When seated in the correct position (looking all too well like the other chairs) the prank was in play. One by one, as each patron took a seat to enjoy a steaming cup of joe, they ended up getting more than they bargained for. Luckily, the coffee remained in the cups and didn’t lead to any unfortunate scaldings.

Proof That Cookie Monster and Elmo Are Huge Jerks
09 apr 2013 19:27
Cookie Monster got arrested yesterday for shoving a toddler. Obviously it was a man dressed up as Cookie Monster, and it happened in Times Square, where basically nothing good will ever happen, but still, come on Cookie Monster! To be honest, Osvaldo Quiroz-Lopez isn’t the first guy in a mascot costume to get in trouble for acting like a jerk. Last summer, there was a man named Adam Sandler who would dress up like Elmo and shout obscenities and anti-Semitic remarks at children in Central Park. And of course, there are more. Here are 11 examples of two of Sesame Street’s most popular characters being total jerks.

The World's Favourite Cities Plunged Into Darkness
12 apr 2013 12:06
Every major capital city suffers from light pollution, even in the depths of the night, total darkness rarely enters the streets – despite the best attempts of Earth Hour. That’s why we’re huge fans of the photographic series ”Villes Eteintes” (translation: Darkened Cities) by French visual artist Thierry Cohen. Through his work, he’s given us all a glimpse at what cities like would look like if plunged into utter darkness. But how did he achieve such feats? It wasn’t easy. He actually noted down the precise latitude and angle of each individual photograph of the city, then set up his camera in an area on the exact same latitude & angle free from light pollution. As the world rotates on its axis, he was able to shoot the night sky, those very same stars and clouds that would have been visible above each city that same evening. By separating the two, he was able to filter out the light from the city itself. These aren’t digitally altered with the intent of forming dream-like landscapes, but pieced together to capture a sleeping city as it truly should be witnessed. All images © Thierry Cohen

A Fascinating Look At The Psychology Of Colour
08 apr 2013 14:58
Did you know that the colour red evokes strong emotions, encourages appetite (that’s why so many fast food restaurants use red in their logos and signage) and promotes passion and intensity? Or that blue is the colour most preferred by men, that it’s associated with hygiene, peace and water (most of your bathroom products are blue) and what about yellow? It’s often considered a very warm and cheerful colour, yet it’s the most likely to cause eye fatigue. We must admit, we didn’t either until we checked out ‘The Psychology Of Colour ‘ infographic by Painters Of Louisville, which provided an eye-opening look into the ways colour toys, effects and plays with our feelings, emotions and productivity.

Absurdly Amusing Captions Added To Random Images

But we’re not talking inspirational or motivational quotes, we’re talking hilarious captions that add an entirely new dimension to the photo itself. Simple in their concept and unique in their design, we’ve picked out 8 of our personal favs to feature below. You can find many more on his official blog – they veer from the controversial to laugh out loud funny and everything in between. Enjoy!

Your Funeral Won’t Be So Depressing If You Hire People to Attend It
08 apr 2013 14:39

Would you bring a ringer in to your funeral? Because it might become a thing. A British company called Rent a Mourner does exactly what you think it does: it rents out people to show up to funerals so the deceased can have a proper memorial. The cost? About $68 per person. The company promises to “supply professional, discreet people to attend funerals and wakes. If you simply need to increase visitor numbers or introduce new faces, then we can help.” Basically, it’s a way to avoid that low “Hey, no one favorited my tweet” feeling we’ve all had before setting sail for the afterlife. It’s like being a seat-filler at an awards show or a cast member of ‘The Truman Show,’ only it’s because you had no friends while you were alive.

The Insane ’90s Era ‘Eagleman’ Commerical Will Delight and Disturb You

Just in case you haven’t seen it, here is what many are calling the worst TV commercial ever created. Like, ever. Thankfully, this locally-made zero budget Chicago insurance company ad is of the “so bad it’s good” variety, not the, “so bad it makes me want to kill myself in the quickest way possible” sort. It’s got everything – bad ’90s Aquanet hair, horrible, horrible “acting,” and, of course, a man in an eagle costume pooping out a giant egg. And what hatches out of that egg is even more horrifying than what you could have ever imagined. Just watch. (Thanks to Reddit user Frostiken for this one.)

Ray J’s New Song Is Totally Not About Kim Kardashian, You Guys
08 apr 2013 13:42
When Ray J dropped his new single, ‘I Hit It First,’ this weekend, everyone noticed that the lyrics (and album cover) seemed to take some swipes at former girlfriend Kim Kardashian. But Ray says we’ve got it all wrong. The rapper — whose sex tape with the reality starlet launched her into the public eye (thanks, dude) — called into New York’s Hot 97 to clear the air, saying he thinks people are “digging into it too deep.” “It’s a song. We just having fun,” Ray told the station, adding that the tune was about a “concept.” Of course … the concept of getting it on with Ms. Kardashian, who’s now pregnant with the next Savior of Mankind. But Ray cried foul, deflecting conversation about Kim and then pleading for the DJs to “bring it back to the song.” Okay. Let’s do that. As a reminder, here are the lyrics: “I had her head going north and her ass going south / But now baby chose to go West.” Certainly not a reference to Kanye West. Nope. Not at all. Oh, and then there’s this: “Girl if you come back to me / We can make another movie.” Totally not about Kim. Stop trying to read so much into it, you guys. This is clearly about an abstract concept. Carry on. Nothing to see here.

Chris Brown & Rihanna Call It Quits. Again. Maybe.

Will they? Won’t they? Wellll … not right now. Sources are saying music power couple Rihanna and Chris Brown have broken off whatever they had. Again. E! News reports that the on-again, off-again couple has flipped the off switch. Supposedly, insiders say Rih loves Chris but wants to focus on her career (and all that naked Instagramming). Rihanna is currently on her Diamonds tour and is about to drop a new line of perfume. Meanwhile, Breezy’s been on an apology press tour, during which he’s promoted his new album ‘X’ and maintained the two are still an item. (But that was last week. Things change fast.) And while Brown was spotted with an unidentified blonde beauty in NYC this weekend, RiRi was living it up at a Lakers game on the opposite coast all by her lonesome. But relationships die hard, toxic or otherwise, and this isn’t the first time we’ve heard this type of news. Go ahead and start an office pool for the reunion announcement.

Jon Stewart’s Interview With George Carlin Will Make You Miss 1997

Beloved comedian George Carlin may have left us in 2008, but his legacy lives on. Now video has emerged of the master being interviewed in 1997 by another funnyman — a pre-’Daily Show’ Jon Stewart. In the interview, Carlin waxes poetic about show business, illicit substances and creativity. Stewart, channeling his inner Danny Zuko, reminds us just how good he is at picking the brains of our favorite celebrities. At the closing of their time together, Carlin predicts young Stewart will eventually “show us a lot.” Sixteen years later, we can add that to a long list of things he was right about.

Poorly-Worded Hashtag for the Late Margaret Thatcher Makes People Think Cher is Dead
08 apr 2013 13:30

Twitter hashtags only have a couple purposes: track current conversational trends, and maybe keep people informed (or distracted). But every now and then a poorly-worded phrase confuses the masses. Like Susan Boyle‘s anal bum party. Or, in this case, a hashtag about today’s passing of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher — which oddly had Cher fans in an uproar. We can understand the confusion. The hashtag #nowthatchersdead was meant to be parsed out as “now Thatcher’s dead.” But it can certainly look like “now that Cher’s dead.” Oops. But don’t worry, Cher fans. Your 66-year-old icon is still going strong. Because, as the old joke goes, when the apocalypse finally comes, all that will be left are cockroaches, Keith Richards, and Cher.
