Twenty years ago, being a "struggling musician" meant you were packed in a van, traveling from city to city with your bandmates, drinking cheap beer, and staying in dirty hotel rooms where you lie on a stained mattress and dream of one day making it big. Today, that is called being in an indie band. Today, that is called being an up-and-comer. Today, the term "struggle" has taken on new meaning. The Internet has made it possible for anyone to dive head first into a "music career," but it has also lowered the bar. Now, instead of having to really commit to something and grind it out the way artists in the '80s and '90s did, you can just start a half-assed Internet campaign from the comfort of your crusty old computer chair. Now, instead of actually putting in the work, you can just bang away at your keyboard and hope that your big break will come to you.

As it has in years past, Google revealed a series of practical jokes on April 1st such as Gmail Blue and Google Nose (like scratch & sniff, but not as funny). But perhaps its most significant reveal was the news that Google Plus, its much-maligned social network, was just one long practical joke. “We’re surprised anyone every actually used it,” said Google CEO Larry Page. “Circles? Hangouts? We can’t believe anyone ever fell for that.” Google Plus launched in June of 2011, making it Google’s most elaborate practical joke to date. “Every year we launch some obviously fake prank on April Fool’s Day. But he’s also not one to rest on his laurels, he has his own fashion house, as well as the Italian house Fendi. An individual with unquestionable talent and unquestionably in-demand. He’s also quite the controversial character, PETA targeted him for his use of fur in fashion by throwing food at him. He called Victoria’s Secret supermodel Heidi Klum “No runway model. She is simply too heavy and has too big a bust. She is more bling bling and glamorous than current fashion.” and even caused Vogue magazine to walk out from his runway show when he employed strippers and adult film star Moana Pozzi to model his designs. And recently when talking about Grammy award-winning singer Adele he stated “She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.” Here’s a few other controversial views from the man himself.
