Meme Watch: Storytelling Dog Is A Raconteur Among Mere Dogs
10 apr 2013 15:32
A fabulous new meme emerged last week on Reddit's Advice Animals. It's in its pup stage, but we're hoping it becomes a majestic prize-winning hound someday. The "Storytelling Dog" depicts a momma dog perched on a chair while her eight* fluffy Samoyed puppies gather around as if waiting to be told a story. Sometimes, it's the simple things that are the best. The original version of the picture was posted last year by Goblin_Cat (a strange name for a dog fan). We're amazed it took this long for a meme to come from that adorable picture.

Remember when we posted about all the Pokemon being transformed with Nic Cage faces? Well that's old news. If there is anythign the the internet obsess over more than Nic Cage, is Benedict Cumberbatch. Amber, who describes herself as "part of the Sherlock fandom", has set out to draw all 151 original Pokémon characters in their Benedict Cumberbatch form. So majestic. Our favorite Benedict Cumberbatch Pokémon from her single serving Tumblr, Pokebatch I Choose You, are collected here. Hat tip and a handful of Smaug's treasure to Neatorama.

Michael Fassbender Lulz And GIFs
10 apr 2013 15:13
I've had some random-as-hell Fassbender images and GIFs stashed away for a while now just waiting for an excuse to toss them together, and wouldn't you know today is everyone's favorite huge-dong'd German-born actor's birthday. I don't know exactly what it is about the guy, but the internet -- Tumblr especially -- simply can't help themselves. And even the stuff that makes no sense works exceptionally well. Maybe because he's so likable. Or maybe because everyone hopes he'll buy them dinner later. Who knows? Regardless, here are some of the best Michael Fassbender lulz the web has to offer. If you find yourself feeling at all bad for having a laugh at the expense of Magneto's homoeroticism just remember that Fassy is probably celebrating the day by having sex with models on top of piles of cash.

A Sea Lion that Dances to the Backstreet Boys
10 apr 2013 15:10
Some birds—like this inexplicable, Lady Gaga-loving Cockatoo—have shown that animals can indeed follow a beat. They can bob their heads and "dance." But outside of a few mimetic parrots, few creatures (including me) have demonstrated any skill whatsoever moving in an aesthetically pleasing manner to a basic 4/4 rhythm. At least until now. Meet Ronan the sea lion. Psychologists at the University of California, Santa Cruz, say she's the first non-human mammal to show an affinity for—dramatic pause—the art of dance. (Watch below.)

Anne Hathaway Joins Matthew McConaughey In Nolan's 'Interstellar'
10 apr 2013 15:07
Anne Hathaway is negotiating to star in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, a sci-fi project which a perpetually shirtless Matthew McConaughey recently confirmed he’d star in as well. We don’t doubt the deal will go through and she’ll be working with Nolan again. But will there be a leather catsuit involved? For both Hathaway and McConaughey? As a standard issue space uniform perchance? Please?

See 9 Official 'Arrested Development' Teaser Posters
10 apr 2013 15:02
Forty-five days. That’s how long until Arrested Development‘s (hopefully) glorious return, on Netflix at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, May 26th. Are you blowing off family plans to binge watch the entire “season” in one day? Are you planning on slowly going through the 15 episodes, one a week, to fully savor the Bluthie goodness? Do you not give a sh*t about Arrested Development and will instead spend that weekend seeing The Hangover Part III and Fast and Furious 6 over and over again, getting more furious WITH EXCITEMENT after each viewing? All respectable options, and while you’re mulling over which one’s for you, check out these nine AD teaser posters Netflix released this morning. I’m partial to the ice cream sandwich one; I’ve been saying for years movie theaters should sell ice cream sandwiches instead of popcorn. That way, we can have our love affairs with them in the dark, surrounded by strangers, the way they were intended to be admired and consumed.

David Letterman Grilled Lindsay Lohan Until She Cried
10 apr 2013 14:39
Is it cool to say that Lindsay Lohan earned some of my respect last night? Probably not, but I think she did. As much I might want to bag on her right now, the fact is that it had to be hard to sit in a chair next to Letterman — who has rightfully cracked hundreds of jokes at her expense over the years and held nothing back last night — and endure what she endured, most of the time rather graciously and with a smile on her face, until, that is, the end, when she finally began to break down a little after Letterman praised her for having “enough spine, enough sense of yourself, enough poise to come out here and talk to me.” Frankly, watching a broken person squirm on stage under the bright lights made me kind of sad.

8 Hidden Messages You Never Noticed In Famous Movies
10 apr 2013 14:29
When watching a movie, most filmmakers are content with shoving all the information we need to understand a story right into our stupid faces. Because film is a medium designed for telling stories, right? Writers and directors don’t need to be coy about what it is they’re trying to say. Unless what they’re trying to say is completely at your expense, of course, as is the case with most of the hidden messages we’ve assembled here (none of which are Disney entries, by the way, ’cause they’ve been done death elsewhere). Ask yourself, this, though: why did the filmmakers associated with these flicks take the time out of their busy schedules to ensure that these subtle inclusions made it into theatres? The logical answer? To reward viewers patient enough to search for hidden clues, you say? Probably not. More than likely, it was all done to either make them feel good about themselves, or to ridicule our growing obsession with analysing each and every frame or everything we happen to gaze upon…

Everything Wrong With ‘Les Miserables’ in One VIdeo
10 apr 2013 12:54
In case you needed somebody to actually tell you what’s wrong with Oscar darling ‘Les Miserables,’ here’s this handy guide from Cinema Sins. It’s a little daunting — they only needed four minutes to get through everything that’s wrong with ‘Prometheus,’ and it takes six minutes to get through this musical movie everyone loves to hate. We haven’t had coffee yet, so math isn’t happening, but that is definitely a pretty big percentage longer — 50% maybe? That sounds right. If you didn’t see ‘Prometheus,’ good for you. If you did see ‘Prometheus,’ imagine a movie that is 50% more wrong. Yikes.

Fall Out Boy's 'Save Rock And Roll' Is 2013's Best Dumb Song...
09 apr 2013 20:21
...But also its most fun. Since their debut album in 2003, Take This to Your Grave, Fall Out Boy have followed a simple formula to mainstream success: huge, goofy anthems that are brilliant in their obviousness. Take “Dance, Dance,” for instance, a song you might hate, but can almost certainly recognize before a single word is uttered. The kick of the drums, the bass line lumbering like a giant, the shake of the tambourine — it’s a recipe for a great pop-rock song, which “Dance, Dance” is, as is the title track from the band’s new album, Save Rock and Roll.

Aubrey Plaza's Hilariously Awkward Ellen Appearance (With GIFs)
09 apr 2013 20:15
No celebrity owns not owning a talk show environment quite like Aubrey Plaza. And that was never more evident than when she dropped by Ellen yesterday. It started with brief but terribly awkward dancing, then awkward sitting, then awkward family shoutouts, followed by awkward chatting and pillow-hugging. It’s really a testament to both of them that it’s somehow not the most painful thing ever to watch. And the internet noticed. So if for some reason you can’t watch the below clip, we’ve got GIFs galore on the other side.

'Pottering,' is The New 'Vadering'
09 apr 2013 20:13
In a short amount of time, the Internet has gone from "Kamehameha-ing" to "Vadering" to now, "Pottering," which Know Your Meme describes as, "a photo fad that entails photographing oneself leaping in the air with a broomstick tucked in between the legs in reference to Quidditch." What do those three memes have in common, outside of the fact that they originate from fanbases that describe themselves as "total nerds," even though Dragon Ball, Star Wars, and Harry Potter are three of the world's biggest franchises? They're all air-born activities, though only "Pottering" involves the use of a prop. And as Carrot Top taught us, everything's more fun with props. (It's true.) Here's the best of "Pottering" meme, with much help from Public Pottering.

Did a Murderer Use 'Confession Bear' To Reveal His Crime?!

Take this with a grain of salt, don’t believe everything you read, etc. etc. etc., but SOME GUY COMMITTED A MURDER AND CONFESSED TO IT VIA A MEME. I think I handled that well. Yesterday, a Redditor, who has since deleted his account, uploaded a Confession Bear to Quick Meme that read, “My sister had an abusive meth addict boyfriend/I killed him with his own drugs while he was unconscious and they ruled it as an overdose.” The anonymous would-be hero and/or hero, depending on your point of view, scrubbed his Reddit history clean, but “lionheart1610k” filled in the blanks quite well.

Hey you. Sitting there at your desk, watching the clock tick ever so slowly toward 5pm, desperately needing something to brighten your dreary work day once it’s over — do you what today is? Free ice cream day at Ben & Jerry’s! In other words, one of the greatest days of the year. It also happens to be the company’s 35th anniversary. Speaking of Ben’s & Jerry’s, did you know that they actually have a flavor graveyard in remembrance of all their discontinued flavors? Well, they most certainly do! If you ever tour the Ben and Jerry’s factory in Waterbury, Vermont, stroll over to their Flavor Graveyard. It’s an actual graveyard—as in, there are headstones and it’s on a grassy knoll. And if you really wanted to, you could probably leave a bouquet. Below are a few pics of the site we found on Flickr. I love that they do this…

13 Tattoos That Make Us Go ‘Whaat!?’
09 apr 2013 19:34
Of course we know tattoos are permanent, which means the tattooed should usually opt for a design they wouldn’t mind having well into their twilight years. Luckily for us though, a lot of people don’t think that through and go for the weird. Like, really weird. A few months back we came across the whole sloth tattoo trend and, hey, who knows if sloths are super meaningful to someone. But there are loads of ink that just don’t make sense, like a sombrero-wearing pickle or Patrick Swayze as a stallion. We’re not ones to judge, but these tattoos make us go “whaat!?” Check them out below.

Man Pulls Off Flawless Human Chair Prank

In the newest YouTube video uploaded by user UCMagic, one prankster decided to conceal and outfit themselves flawlessly to look like the cushions of a coffee shop chair. When seated in the correct position (looking all too well like the other chairs) the prank was in play. One by one, as each patron took a seat to enjoy a steaming cup of joe, they ended up getting more than they bargained for. Luckily, the coffee remained in the cups and didn’t lead to any unfortunate scaldings.

Man Buys Poodles, Discovers They’re Actually Ferrets on Steroids
09 apr 2013 19:29
This is not a joke. A man at the largest outdoor bazaar in Buenos Aires bought two toy poodles from a vendor for $150 each. Only he didn’t actually buy two poodles. He actually bought two ferrets that were hopped up on steroids and given fancy hairdos so they would look like poodles. In addition, one lady also bought a ferret, believing it to be a chihuahua. People in Argentina call the “enhanced” ferrets Brazilian rats despite the fact that they’re not rats at all. Turns out, when ferrets get excited, they do a “weasel war dance,” and when they get upset, they hiss. Maybe one of these two terrifying traits are what clued their owners in, since apparently having creepy ferret faces didn’t quite do the trick.

Mozart Takes on Skrillex in Latest ‘Epic Rap Battle’

If you haven’t checked out YouTube’s ‘Epic Rap Battles of History‘ then you are severely missing out. In this newest video, famed historical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart takes on modern day electronic musician Skrillex. The battle consists of some great wordplay, with lyrics that hit each of its battlers pretty deep. Skrillex claims Mozart “died baroque and worthless” while Mozart believes he rocked harder than Skrillex when he was five-years-old and that he’s probably unaware of what a fortississimo is. Seriously, what an idiot!

To be honest, Osvaldo Quiroz-Lopez isn’t the first guy in a mascot costume to get in trouble for acting like a jerk. Last summer, there was a man named Adam Sandler who would dress up like Elmo and shout obscenities and anti-Semitic remarks at children in Central Park. And of course, there are more. How Animals Eat Their Food

You should probably watch this video. Especially if you need something absurd to turn your day around. This is about as ridiculous as it gets. It’s a man doing his impressions of how different animals eat their food. Really none of them are particularly accurate (we don’t recall ever seeing a bull just slam his face into a plate of salad), but they are ridiculous. Sometimes that’s all that matters. Just don’t try to teach children with this video and it should be alright.
