Sculptor Lorenzo Quinn playfully designs disembodied hands playing with life-size toys. The artist's public installation titled Esto no es un juego, or This is not a game, is especially interesting in its declaration juxtaposed with a pair of hands holding onto what appear to be plastic toys. Like the set of a child's imagination gone wild at playtime, the display is adorned with classic green army men holding varying stances. It is simultaneously playful and powerful, sending a message about the seriousness of war that is made light of through toys.
One of the best known symbols of spring in Japan are the magnificent pink Japanese cherry trees, also called sakura. Starting in mid-March, the Internet is flooded with amazing pictures of all varieties of pink, blooming in parks and streets of different cities of Japan. The earliest city to blossom is Tokyo – this year its sakura trees are expected to be in full bloom by the end of March. Depending on a city, Japanese cherry trees may bloom even through May. As the official Japanese school year starts in April, the first day back at school or work after the holidays usually coincides with the blooming of the sakuras. You will always see many locals picnicking under the cherries every season – the tradition is called hanami, and dates back to the 8th century!

Often seen above mountains or hills, lenticular clouds are extraordinary clouds that, due to their smooth saucer-like shape, are often mistaken for UFOs. Lenticular clouds are formed when a current of moist air is forced upwards as it travels over a mountain, causing the moisture to condense and form a cloud. They can appear as if they're sitting stationary, hovering above our planet in an unusual fashion for hours or even days. That's because the flow of moist air continually resupplies the cloud from the windward side even as water evaporates and vanishes from the leeward side. Lenticular clouds are considered a rare sight, especially in areas where there are no mountains. When the sun sets, viewers are often treated with a spectacular display as the clouds are lit with brilliant colors, almost as if someone had painted the sky. As Adamus said about the photo above, “Surreal, otherworldly, foreboding...perhaps a once in a lifetime combination of colors, shapes and textures. This awesome lenticular cloud formation occurred at sunset over Oregon's Alvord Desert in late December, ahead of an impending storm."
I recently discovered the visual stunning work of American hyperrealisitic-oil painter Damian Loeb. At times it’s virtually impossible to distinguish the fine strokes of his oils works from that of a high-resolution photograph. In an era where modern art seems to be putting greater emphasis on the ‘concept’, Loeb is one of the few artists out there flying the flag and embracing the traditional techniques & craft used by some of the world’s greatest painters. Make no mistake, it is no easy task creating and painting with oil – it requires an incredible sense of patience, restraint and calm. For that he should be admired regardless (it’s certainly a harder route to take) but his technique, brilliance and the clarity of his work speaks for itself.
Artist Sukhi Barber was born in England and, from a very young age, she was always interested in pursuing her artistic passions. After attending art school and completing her formal training in sculpture, she traveled to Kathmandu, Nepal, and spent twelve years studying what she describes as the "timeless quality of peace and balance that she found in the art of Asia."
These may be mundane everyday objects - but they can still raise a smile. In a series of chance situations this funny set of happy snaps show a range of non-living things sporting a smile. The cheery images appear on a grater, chair and even forms on the surface of a cup of coffee.
Advertising campaigns have the ability to shape our perception, dictate our mood, awake the senses and increasingly alter our habits. As society’s values have changed, so too has the types of adverts which are deemed acceptable or unacceptable. With years of research behind them, advertising agencies have found new and creative ways of getting our attention. The trouble is, there’s still a certain amount of guess-work with any type of creative campaign. Even with big budgets sometimes the ads themselves are too vague, confronting or irrelevant to have any real impact. Sometimes they even exceed expectations. With that in mind we’ve pull together 14 confronting often highly confusing anti-smoking adverts from around the world. Do let us know what you think in the comments at the bottom of this post, there are some truly head-scratching moments to be had.
Everyone is talking about gay marriage these days. As a straight man you probably don't care either way but you should. If gay marriage is legalized it benefits you.
The 501st TK Helmet project successfully raised $50,000 for the Make-A-Wish foundation through the sale of these cool customized Storm trooper Helmets. Star wars does it again. Way to go 501st.
Spanish artist Emilio Ferrari creates extreme, hyper realistic drawings with just paper and some pencils. Every drawing has photographic qualities within the details, and it can take the self-taught artist up to two weeks to complete one of his visually complex creations. In contrast with the realistic accuracy of each piece, Ferrari includes a touch of surrealism in his illustrations. For example, a wide-eyed man's mustache grows unexpectedly upward and a scared young man has unnaturally perfect drops of blood trickling from his nose.
This baby squirrel was rescued from the bag and then raised and nurtured into a healthy little animal by the finder. Luckly for us this man tracked the baby squirrels progress and posted pictures on his tumblr account.
Whenever we get behind a camera, we’re always secretly hoping of taking that ever-illusive ‘perfect’ photo. That split second in time where the composition, lighting, subject matter, movement, angles and sheer luck all sync for one brief uniformed moment. Those minor details that transform a great photo, into an iconic one. Here’s 10 photographs that fall into the latter, shot around the world, they are stunning examples of truly capturing that perfect moment.

Since the dawn of time people have been discovering new and unusual ways to make a living. Most of us have regular jobs which bring us an income, but alarming there are individuals out there that sell the naming rights of their first born to bring in the cash. Which brings us nicely onto entrepreneur Mohawk Gaz and whilst he isn’t tattooing his face with logos he’s taken the rather unique and fun approach of letting brands, teams and corporations sponsor his mohawk. You can do the same thing too! A bunch of people have been walking around with interesting mohawks. The likes of Google, VISA and even the NBA are just some of the brands that have splashed the cash to be emblazoned on his ft long mohawk. It’s certainly one of the more unusual and eye-catching (which is what all adverts try to be) ways to get your brand noticed. So what do you think? A genius idea or utterly ridiculous? Would you walk around with a basketball hoop attached to your head for $5K? Let us know the comments below.

Alright, so by now, if you are not a Nicolas Cage fanatic, and you use the internet, you must not have very good eyesight. Nic Cage has the most hilarious face in all of Hollywood, and the internet takes advantage of it! Remember how Nic Cage’s face was plastered on famous icons? There have been several: http://loljam.com/post/194/ , http://loljam.com/post/6921/ , and http://loljam.com/post/7414/ . Right now, I find myself asking why this hasn’t already been done. Isn’t this the internet? Shouldn’t somebody have already drawn all the first generation Pokemon with Nicolas Cage‘s face by now? Well at least it’s finally happening. Here are a few of the drawings from the Tumblr page PokemonxNicCage:

The two giant ships, a NASA-like mission control and a launch pad floating on the ocean, form part of an audacious, outrageously expensive, multi-national venture for blasting commercial satellites into space. Sea Launch was established in 1995 as a consortium of four companies from Norway, Russia, Ukraine and the United States, managed by Boeing with participation from the other shareholders. Operated by the Russians, this commercial spacecraft launch service uses a mobile sea platform for equatorial launches of payloads on specialized Zenit 3SL rockets. Since the first rocket flight on March 1999, it has assembled and launched thirty-one rockets, with three failures and one partial failure.

Did you know that the peppermint flavor in your chewing gum and toothpaste, and the red-ruby grapefruit on your plate, is the result of mutation caused by deliberate irradiation? Apparently, after World War II, there was a concerted effort to find peaceful uses for atomic energy. One of the ideas was to bombard plants with radiation and produce lots of mutations, some of which, it was hoped, would lead to plants that were disease or cold-resistant or just had unusual colors. The experiments were mostly conducted in giant gamma gardens on the grounds of national laboratories in the US, Europe and countries of the former USSR, leading to untold numbers of new plant varieties. The disease resistant peppermint plant and the 'Rio Star' grapefruit, which accounts for 75% of the grapefruit production in Texas, were created in these atomic gardens.
For some reason Justin Bieber just cannot seem to keep his pesky clothes on. The young musician was seen taking off a little bit more than he needed to as he stepped through a security gate at Wladyslaw Reymont Airport in Lodz, Poland. Justin, 19, was departing the cold country on Monday following his concert there and was once again shirtless.

Furore is a town and comune in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. It’s famous mainly because of the Fjord – a small crack in the rocks, an ancient gorge that was a hidden place for the bandits in the past.
Shrouded within the park of Villa Demidoff (just north of Florence, Italy), there sits a gigantic 16th century sculpture known as Colosso dell'Appennino, or the Appennine Colossus. The brooding structure was first erected in 1580 by Italian sculptor Giambologna. Like a guardian of the pond in front of him, the giant is in an endless watchful pose, perched atop his earthy seat.
Something about these signs doesn't feel quite right. Then again, why would a sign lie to you? Classic Advertising. So funny so clever/ creative.
Florida Gulf Coast University is a small school that opened in 1997. Somehow the school's basketball team has taken the 2013 NCAA tournament by storm. FGCU was the first 15 seed to ever make it to the sweet sixteen and no one has ever heard of the team before this. The small school that has come so far has caused some hilarious jokes around the web.

For most parents and kids, crossing the street to catch the school bus is perhaps the riskiest part of the school run. But take a look at these Chinese schoolchildren from the village of Genguan. Everyday, these young kids walk along a precarious path carved by the side of a cliff, as they make their way to class in Bijie, in southwest China's Guizhou Province. Banpo Elementary School is located halfway up a mountain and the path to it winds through treacherous hillside passes and tunnels hewn out of the rock. The pebble-covered footpath is less than 0.5 meters wide, which means the children have to walk single file and press themselves into the side of the mountain if someone wants to squeeze past. This footpath was created 40 years ago as an irrigation ditch and although there is another safer route, but taking this means the children have to spend two hours to walk to school. The only assurance for parents is that Headmaster Xu Liangfan accompanies the 49 kids to school.
