Airports aren’t too much fun at the best of times, least of all when your flight is delayed or cancelled and you’re trapped in a realm of fluro lighting conceret floors and uncomfortable seats for hours on end. There’s only so many times you can circle the duty free section after all, so it’s no surprise that people try their best to get some sleep, because when you’re going through different timezones – every little bit helps.

This Artist Creates Artwork By Using His Own Blood
23 jan 2013 16:05
“People often want to offer me their blood, but I advise them to donate it to blood banks, which need it much more than art.” Those are the words of - Vinicius Quesada, a visual artist hailing from the streets of Brazil, who puts his body and soul into his artwork – literally. Below is a selection of works from a series he’s titled “Blood Piss Blues”, and far from being an deliberately shocking title to stir up controversy, it’s simple a genuine reference to the materials with which he’s created his art.

A Funny Animated Film About A Cat Looking For Love | So Bad So Good
23 jan 2013 16:06
We’re big big fans of KickStarter which has given creative individuals a platform to get their work funded, supported and promoted. One that especially caught our eye recently was animator & visual artist Bard Edlund’s creation – a cartoon series titled ‘Franklin the Ladies’ Cat’ which, as you can imagine centers around a loveable cat who *thinks* he knows how to woo the ladies of the world. It’s funny, a little sad and wonderfully animated.

Iconic Business Cards Of The Rich And Famous
23 jan 2013 16:16
They do say you should never judge a book by it’s cover, but that doesn’t always apply when it comes to business cards. They’re designed to make a statement, generate impact and leave you with an impression. Some would say that Zuckerberg’s first attempt left a lot to be desired, but as you’re about to see, there’s no doubting the retro cool of Bill Gates’s card or the bling bling of Donald Trump faux gold foil business cards. Our personal favourite though has to go to Kevin Mitnick – a convicted criminal and serial hacker, who’s business card (it’s actually a lock pick tool set) is just as startling as the illegal feats he accomplished. Way back in 1995 he single-handily hijacked and broke into the servers of the likes of Motorla, Fujitsu and even Nokia stealing vital information and data.

Skateboards Transformed Into Immensely Beautiful Sculptures
23 jan 2013 16:21
Here’s a fantastic example of re-purposed art. Based in Tokyo, sculptor (and skateboarder) Haroshi is the talented individual behind these immensely beautiful works of art. Skateboards are built using several layers of coloured laminated wood, compressed together then stacked on top of each other. After several broken skateboards had been split open, Haroshi noticed these coloured stripes and began to saw his old skateboards down into separate pieces. From there he started using all the tiny fragments and sawn off pieces to build and create his sculptures piece by piece. A time-consuming and complex process for sure, but one which we think results in some fantastic visual works. He’s created sneakers, skulls and even characters (like a skateboarding cat!) and to date, he estimates he’s created over 40 different designs.

French Soldier and the Mask from Call of Duty
24 jan 2013 09:24
A French soldier has sparked outrage after being pictured wearing a grinning skeleton facemask like one featured in the ultra-violent computer game Call of Duty while serving in Mali. Military authorities have launched an investigation to discover the soldier's identity after he was photographed using the mask, also known as a death's head, to protect himself from dust kicked up by a helicopter. The trooper is one of an estimated 2,000 French soldiers sent to the west African nation to fight hardline Islamic extremists who seized control last year.

Ice Sculptures after a Fire in Chicago
24 jan 2013 09:27
Firefighters in Chicago responded to the largest fire in years last night. According to The Chicago Tribune, at one point a third of the city's firefighters were battling the blaze at a vacant warehouse. Luckily no one was hurt, but the arctic temperatures the area is experiencing meant the firefighters faced issues like frozen hydrants. The pictures of the action, however, are made simply stunning because of the ice.

Huge Boulder Smashes Into Bedroom
24 jan 2013 09:28
A St. George woman received a rude awakening when a huge boulder tumbled down a ridge into her bedroom, sending her to the hospital with a broken jaw and sternum. Wanda Denhalter, 63, was sleeping alone when she narrowly missed being crushed under the boulder early Saturday morning, said her husband, Scot Denhalter. Her husband, who wasn't home at the time, said she apparently heard a rumbling noise before the 12-by-9-foot boulder crashed through the back wall of the house and pinned her in the bedroom.

Animals Burst Through Gallery Walls and Glass Containers
24 jan 2013 10:14
Artist Tasha Lewis, who you may remember from these blue butterfly swarms, is currently showing a "moving" body of work at The Harrison Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Using hidden magnets within her mixed media sculptures, she creates the illusion that a variety of animals and plants are bursting out of their containers or through the gallery's walls. Called Moments of Thaw, the show highlights, according to the artist, "the apparent momentary loss of solidity that the glass container, wooden box or plaster wall has experienced which allowed nature to break through."
