Giraffe Swimming in a Pool
26 apr 2013 09:31
To you it might look like a medium-sized swimming pool, but to someone as big as giraffe this is just a bath. And when giraffe gets dirty it takes a bath. Actually, a 3.5 year old Monduli is a regular visitor at the Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate in Tanzania. It was saved as a baby by anti-poaching unit by Tanzanian Government. Zummi Cardoso, general manager at the estate, says they have bottled and bucket-fed him for more than a year.

DIY Porsche Made Out Of Plastic Pipes and Aluminum Foil
26 apr 2013 09:41
Austrian artist Hannes Langeder is a very proud owner of a GT3 RS Porsche, although it could hardly race with even an ordinary bicycle on the street. That’s because this world’s slowest Porsche was handmade by Hannes using plastic pipes, sticky tape and aluminum foil, and instead of being powered by engine, it only runs as fast you pedal it! The eco-friendly car took the artist 6 months – over 10 000 hours – and 13 000 to euros to complete.

6 People Who Apologized For Their Own Movie
28 apr 2013 14:12
On April 22, it was reported that Michael “I Make Things Go Boom” Bay, apologized to a reporter from The Miami Herald for the third act of his 1998 smash, ‘Armageddon.’ He said: "I will apologize for Armageddon, because we had to do the whole movie in 16 weeks. It was a massive undertaking. That was not fair to the movie. I would redo the entire third act if I could.” According to Bay, he was misquoted by the overzealous reporter, saying he didn’t apologize for nothin’! But even if Bay didn’t officially apologize, plenty of other filmmakers and actors have said they were sorry for unleashing wreck upon the movie-going masses. Here are a few examples of people apologizing for their cinematic turkeys.

A Closer Look At The Impoverished Biker Gangs Of Tanzania
28 apr 2013 23:40
British and London-based photographer Kit Oates recently (and bravely) traveled to Tanzania to discover the stories behind the biker gangs who roamed the streets trying to make a living from their Toyo’s – the motorbike of choice in the area. "I spent the summer of 2013 in Sub-Sarahan Africa, shooting for an American travel company. I kept seeing bikers on the streets and in the villages, and I wanted to get to know more and find out their story. I ended up spending several days hanging out and travelling with these guys in the suburbs of Arusha, one of Tanzania’s largest tourist towns." For many Tanzanian’s the Toyo bike is the obvious solution when it comes to traversing the rough local terrain, narrow paths and broken rubble that many conventional cars would have difficulty moving through. The affordable bike is imported from China and is now acts as a vital form of transport in both rural and impoverished areas. For many drivers, they serve as a regular source of income by acting as taxi’s whisking tourists across town for a minimal fee. Worryingly though, few riders have a licence or even adequate training, bike related injuries are both common and numerous. It’s often the case that local families own a single Toyo and each generation is then pressured to help make a living from riding it – at the expense of their own safety and those around them. You can see more compelling images from Kit’s unique experience and delve deeper into the characters, stories and tales behind the Tanzanian biker gangs via his official website: http://www.kitoates.com/index.php?/tanzanian-biker-gangs/

Extraordinary Abandoned Ship Covered In Street Art
28 apr 2013 23:45
What might be seen as a huge rust bucket to some, is seen by others as the perfect canvas to showcase their creativity. That’s the case with the Duke Of Lancaster a huge abandoned ship just off the north coast of Wales. Former graffiti artist Maurice Blunt initially saw the vessel when he was on a train and noticing it’s run down state go into contact with its owners about potentially ’reclaiming’ the ship. His vision was the transform it from a discarded eye-saw, into a floating art installation and thankfully the owners agreed. Soon after he quickly enlisted the help of several prominent graffiti artists (the DuDug collective) to turn his imaginative and grandiose idea into reality. Below are the impressive results – what do you think?

The Mysterious Tale Of The Extraordinary Vivian Maier | So Bad So Good
28 apr 2013 23:51
In 2007 at a local auction house in Chicago, historical hobbyist John Maloof randomly purchased a box of film negatives yet to be developed from an “unknown amateur photographer “. It cost him $380, a lot to spend on an unknown quantity you might say, but in doing so, he discovered one of the most fascinating and remarkable artists in recent history – Vivian Maier. She is now fast becoming known as one of the most pivotal street photographer in the 20th century, yet this 1950′s visionary was a painfully aloof and intensely secret individual. She had never shown a single photograph to anyone – not even her closest friends, yet she’d amassed some 100,000 negatives, 700 rolls of undeveloped colour film and numerous 16mm movies. A 1950′s nanny by day, she worked in quiet isolation in her attic alone at night, sorting and organising through the photographs she’d taken that day. As you’re about to see, her images of 1950s & 60s Chicago/New York are some of the most powerful & magnificent to have ever been taken during that era. “I’m uncovering an artist, if I’m leaving this giant boulder unturned I’d be making a giant mistake.” – John Maloof Maloof sadly he found her obituary notice in the Chicago Tribune back in 2009. Having slipped on some sheet ice earlier, she suffered a severe head injury and tragically passed away aged 83, taking her secrets and wonderful gift with her.

22 New Images From Season Four Of 'Arrested Development'

For those of you playing at home just catching up, Arrested Development season four will be released to Netflix in its entirety on Memorial Day weekend. Don’t make other plans. I understand that it’s a holiday weekend and you may want to spend time with your family, but your family will always be there. An entire season of Arrested Development released on one day may never happen again. Besides, it’s just 15 episodes (or about seven and a half hours), it shouldn’t be that hard to marathon. Skip sleep for a night. It’ll be worth it. Anyway, they’re releasing new promotional materials and still images from season four in a hurry this week. Earlier, we showed you a few new still images from the new season, but now we have even more, all from the same source: this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly (although, the images are snaked from Reddit). In addition, we have official versions of the Netflix character posters that we saw earlier this week in cities around America. All of those are below, including our first look at Kristen Wiig and Seth Rogen. In addition, EW also has an outtake from this season, featuring Lucille blowing smoke into Buster’s mouth. Literally. There’s a lot to feast your eyes on. Take your time. Remove your pants. Grab a drink.

Correspondents' Dinner 2013 Speech Recap With Obama Jokes
29 apr 2013 00:13
This Barack Obama, he can’t get no respect. He once went to the zoo and when the elephants saw him, they were like, “Who’s this guy with the big ears?” If that’s the kind of lightly satirical, yet ultimately harmless joke you can’t get enough of, then the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which occurred last night, is the roast for you. To be fair to Obama, though, his material — surely crafted by an entire army of Bruce Vilanchs — was pretty good: -”Look. I get it. These days I look in the mirror, and I have to admit, I’m not the strapping young Muslim Socialist that I used to be.” -”I go out on the basketball court. Took 22 shots. Made two of them! That’s right: Two hits, 20 misses. The executives at NBC asked, ‘What’s your secret?’” -”I know CNN has taken some knocks lately, but the fact is, I admire their commitment to cover all sides of the story. Just in case one of them happens to be accurate.” -”But the problem is the media landscape is changing so rapidly. You can’t keep up with it. I remember when BuzzFeed was just something I did in college around 2 a.m.” -”One thing they [the GOP] all agree on is they need to do a better job reaching out to minorities. And look, call me self-centered. But I can think of one minority they can start with. Hello! Think of me a trial run, you know? See how it goes!” -”Why don’t you get a drink with Mitch McConnell? they ask. Really? Why don’t YOU get a drink with Mitch McConnell?”

10 Movies Critics Loved That Fanboys Hated
29 apr 2013 12:51
It is not uncommon for there to be a disparity between regular cinema-goers and film critics, though given the assumption that film critics are more “harsh” and discerning than regular punters, it tends to be critics hating a movie that the general movie-going public enjoyed. Why else would Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen rake in so much money despite a risible Rotten Tomatoes score? Occasionally, however, it will go the other way, and critics, with their broader mission – which will be to determine whether a film functions for the target audience at large – will praise a film that the series’ hardcore fans will nitpick into oblivion for betraying the source material. By their nature, film critics are not fanboys about many franchises – at least not in a conventional way – so they may give a free pass to something that the hardcore fans see as a real problem. Here are 10 movies critics loved that fanboys hated…

8 Shocking Movies Hollywood Made With Dead Actors

There aren’t many worse things that can happen on a film production than your star dying; after all, how the Hell are you supposed to finish things when your protagonist can no longer appear on screen? Though many filmmakers would simply abandon the film and admit defeat, in these 8 instances, a “never say never” attitude resulted in some shocking movies that either demonstrated inventive genius, or an incredible lack of taste, or just made us wish that the film had never been made. Many got up in arms about that rumour a few years back that George Lucas was going to use CGI to “resurrect” dead actors, but boy, that’s got nothing on these actual incidents… From poor editing tricks to flat out lying to consumers about how much of their role the late star had actually filmed, situations like this can catch directors and producers at their most unscrupulous. Ranging from superbly crafted Best Picture-winning blockbusters to the worst of the worst, here are 8 shocking movies that Hollywood made with dead actors…

Gwyneth Paltrow Named World's Most Beautiful Woman
29 apr 2013 13:40
Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s never met a piece of food she’d rather eat than name her kid after, has been named the World’s Most Beautiful Woman by People, only a week after Star Magazine released a poll claiming that Paltrow’s also the Most Hated Celebrity in Hollywood. Take that, Mel Gibson and/or Roman Polanski. It seems like a baffling, ill-advised choice by People, until you realize, oh, that’s right, she’s thin, blonde, blue-eyed, and is married to the tamest of tame rock stars — she IS People, People is she. The proof is in the GOOP’y pudding. “Around the house, I’m in jeans and a T-shirt. I don’t really wear makeup. That’s what they’re used to,” she says. As for her husband, Chris Martin, “He’ll make a joke about it. If I’ve gotten fully dressed up, he’ll be like, ‘Oh, wow! You’re Gwyneth Paltrow!’ He’s used to seeing me in like baggy shorts and frizzy hair.” I imagine that family spends most of their day making $20,500 omelets while yelling “I’m Gwyneth Paltrow!” at each other, while wearing jeans and t-shirts, obviously, as they’re just like us.
