Art historian Paul Koudounaris hunted down these jewel encrusted skeletons in secret Catholic vaults. Those are the remains of Catholic martyrs dug up from Roman catacombs. They were sent to churches across Europe to replace relics destroyed in Reformation. Some took up to five years to decorate in gold, silver and gemstones. Several skeletons were even found hidden away in lock-ups and containers.

Optical illusions are notoriously a lot of fun. You might be staring at an object, move an inch to the left and witness a whole new dimension or you might glance at something in the distance only for your mind to play tricks on you. It’s one of the few forms of art that is truly interactive and personalised, we all have the capacity to perceive the world around completely separately from each other and optical illusions are a great example of that process. The Science Gallery in Dublin, Ireland is currently hosting a new exhibition dedicated to the art of deception. It’s called Illusion and includes breath-taking artworks by artists Matt Kenyon, Gregory Barsamian Roseline de Thelin & Jonty Hurwitz - all of whom were researched by a chap called Paul Gleeson who is in fact an escapologist & magician! It takes one to know one as they say. Together the artists have created a world of shifting perspectives, sensory deception and dreamlike visuals designed to excite, confuse and above all – surprise. Here’s a few examples from the exhibition for you to enjoy.

In a unnerving 6 minutes, you’ll be faced with the shocking reality of overconsumption and its affect on the world as whole. The footage is taken from the awe-inspiring Samsara movie, in this particular sequence our over zealous and greedy need for food whenever we feel like it has outpaced the capacity of the world’s ecosystem. Industry has had to step in to supply demand and it’s here the any sense of comfort, kindness and relief are cast aside in the name of demand, profit and producing as much food as possible. Regardless of the physical effects on the animals themselves or indeed those of the workers who are forced to work long hours in bleak slaughterhouses. It’s purely a numbers game, powered by giant manufacturing plants all supplying millions of supermarket aisles around the world. It’s an eye-opening and often disturbing look at the entire process of where your food comes from so viewer discretion is advised. Next time you’re after a snack and find yourself walking into to McDonald’s, have a think about the system you’re contributing to.

These kinds of fan music videos are hit and miss for me. Most of the ones I come across aren't that good, but Game of Thrones - Ultimate Birthday Rap Battle is actually done pretty well. It's set up at a 10-year-old's birthday party, which doesn't make much sense, but that's the vibe they were going for. Here's a note from the team that made it:

I randomly came across this punk rock music video over the weekend for a song called Giant. Robot. Babies., and it made me laugh, so I had to share it. The music video and song was created by YouTuber nice peter. I'm confident that this will entertain you, and that you'll be singing "Giant. Robot. Babies!" for the rest of the day. The song is still stuck in my head! Also, this needs to be a new show on Cartoon Network!

Yo VIP, I got a video for you. Here's a short that required way too much effort for such a ridiculous, but incredibly awesome, idea. I'm not the biggest fan of Vanilla Ice, but I can appreciate the amount of time it took to throw these clips from film and television together to rap "Ice Ice Baby." There are way too many to count, but at a glance you'll see House of Cards, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, The Big Lebowski, Batman & Robin, Terminator, TMNT, and Trailer Park Boys for starters. Here's an entertaining trailer for a new film called Fading Gigolo, which stars Woody Allen and John Turturro. Here's where things get interesting... Allen didn't direct the movie, Turturro did, and it's very rare to get Allen to star in someone else's movie. But when you watch this trailer you'll see why Allen took the gig. This looks like a very well-scripted, funny film that audiences could enjoy. It is about a guy whose friend convinces him to become a gigolo for a little extra cash. It actually kind of feels like a Woody Allen movie, and here's the synopsis: Woody Allen plays as bookseller-turned-pimp to John Turturro's middle-aged neophyte hustler, in actor-writer-director Turturro's inspired left-field comedy. The premise is as inspired as it is absurd, and Turturro carries it off with his own affecting and surprisingly romantic vision of New York City. The film doesn’t have a U.S. release date yet, but it is set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this September.

During Edgar Wright's panel for The World's End at Comic-Con last month, the director showed off a really cool video created by Mike Relm called The Cornetto Megamix, and it features the audio and video from the three films that Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost have worked on together over the years: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End (collectively dubbed the "Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy"). Wright posted the video on his blog and said that it "might be my favourite re-edit of any of my work."

I know this isn't really movie related, but there are a bunch of Yo-Yo geeks in the world, so I thought, "what the hell, I'm going to post this." It's a video featuring 2013 Yo-Yo World Champion Janos Karancz destroying his competition at the World Championship. The stuff this guy pulls off is unbelievable, and I guarantee it is going to blow your mind in ways you never thought possible! The Formula One racing film Rush looks pretty freakin' radical. I like everything I've seen from the movie so far. It looks like there's going to be a lot of intense Formula One racing action, but here's a new clip from the film that gives us a look at more of the dramatic side of things. It features the first meeting between race car driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and beautiful model Suzy Miller (Olivia Wilde), who goes on to become his wife. Check out the clip!

Mario can't seem to keep his hat on his head in this incredibly cool live-action video of him and his brother Luigi performing parkour stunts around a city. Some fun special effects have been included like fireball shooting, turtle stomping, and brick breaking. I've got to say, throwing yourself out of a parking garage window head first is a pretty ballsy move, but they pull it off gracefully in this video. Check it out!

Here's a deleted scene from one of my favorite episodes of The Walking Dead season 3. The Episode is called "Clear," and this scene is a extended version of Morgan's powerful tirade to Rick. It's one of those non-zombie killing scenes that proves how amazing this series really is. This episode was written by Scott Gimple, who is the new showrunner on the series. Star Wars: Episode III was in my opinion the best of the prequel trilogy even though Darth Vader's Frankenstein "Noooooooooooooooo!" moment was absolutely ridiculous. Concept artist Sangjun Lee has released a really cool collection of concept art from the film showing off several awesome designs done for the production of the film. Love them or hate them, the prequels still looked great visually, and the art created for it is beautiful. Check out some of it below!

Exocoetidae, commonly called Flying Fish, is a family of fishes aptly named for their ability to emerge out of the water and glide for long distances with their outstretched pectoral fins. Their streamlined torpedo shape helps them gather enough underwater speed to break the surface, and their large, wing-like fins get them airborne. Once in the air, these fishes can glide over considerable distances. Their flights are typically around 50 meters, but some fishes have been recorded to fly up to 200 meters or more. Some species of flying fish have enlarged pelvic fins as well as enlarged pectoral fins, which allows them to fly further than two winged gliders (up to 400 meters), and have far greater maneuverability. These fishes are known as four-winged flying fish.

We brought him home and put him in a box. After spending a night in our bedroom, he woke us up with high-pitched tweeting. We tried feeding him, but without any luck, so we placed him in our balcony. He continued tweeting non-stop for 3 hours. Finally, his father found him and started feeding him. He brought his chick huge bugs and bread every 10-15 minutes all day long for two weeks straight. He was getting bigger every day, but he was still blind. I called a vet, and he told me to try simple eye drops. It worked like a charm! He even started hiding from us behind our flowers. Soon, his father started showing him how to fly trough the window. One day he just left – we knew this day would come eventually. We became really worried because that same night, and for the next few days, there was really stormy weather. However, 3 days later, he came back and fell asleep in one of our pots.

The GlaDOS cosplay works while walking around and while hanging from some PVC pipes (as one does). She also says she had an iPod with some Portal quotes and music hooked to speakers on the back of the frame. Normally I don’t like costumes that take up a lot of space, but I’ll make an exception for getting to meet GLaDOS in real life and still be alive.

Ronda Rousey, current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and friend to the children, has reprised her role as The Insureon Protector in this clip about her f*cking up and arm-barring a bunch of dudes who try to strong-arm a little girl out of her lemonade stand turf. That’s a weird sentence to type, but slightly less weird when you remember that her first Insureon commercial was about her breaking Geek Squad arms. Standing up for the rights of precocious children is a good career move for Rousey right now, as her season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ has started up and is poised to make her look nuts:

Des Taylor (known as DESPOP) has created some wonderful art. The team of Wonder Woman and Captain America is among my favorites, and that is perfectly encapsulated by the recent commission piece he did featuring the two of them, which you can find featured in the slideshow below. Sort of lost in the excitement of Jon Stewart’s epic return to the Daily Show last night was the fact that he delivered a hilarious but poignant rant segment on the situation with Syria, a situation that increasingly points to war – despite the Obama White House’s insistence to not call it “war” – with each passing day. And what we’ve been told is the main justification for some form of military intervention in Syria is that its leader, Bashar al-Assad, has allegedly killed scores of his own people using chemical weapons. Gee, where have we heard that one before? (Note to authoritarian rulers: if you want to kill a bunch of your own citizens, do it with machetes and guns and other more conventional weaponry and there won’t be any trouble.) “You can’t use chemicals to kill your own people, you have to do it organically!” Stewart said. “America and the world want to make sure Assad only uses locally-sourced free long-range ordnance.” After playing a series of clips of the usual idiot cable news pundits insisting that by not bombing Syria — the secret motivation for which some naturally think has more to do with the Western world’s insatiable thirst for fossil fuels than it does with humanitarian efforts — Obama would look weak, Stewart reminded us that if the United States were a person it’d more often than not be a schoolyard bully, and one ravished with insecurity over having a little dick at that. “So given the fact that we have no idea who would have control over these chemical weapons in a failed Syria, remind us again why we have to do this?” Stewart asked. “Oh right, we have to bomb Syria because we’re in seventh grade. Anyway, according to every celebrity website ever, Dauriac, a French journalist who looks comically small in this photo, recently put a ring on it, “it” being Scarlett Johansson’s finger, “Scarlett Johansson” being not my future wife. People spoke to an anonymous source who revealed, “I can confirm that Scarlett and Romain are engaged. They haven’t chosen a date for the wedding.” (At least we know the informant isn’t Ryan Reynolds.) Even online giants like Amazon, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter were once itty-bitty websites with monochrome homepages, poorly-thought-out logos and boring or stark turn-of-the-century designs. Photographer Penkdix Paime shot the tiny tree frog in his neighbor's backyard in Jember, East Java, Indonesia. The clever frog used the leaf as his umbrella for more than 30 minutes as the rain pitter-pattered all around him.
