17 Soldiers Collapsing Due To Exhaustion At Military Ceremonies
25 aug 2013 00:08
Choosing a career of military service can certainly be a dangerous occupation. Aside from potentially being sent into foreign lands only to be bombard with enemy fire, even the day-to-day ceremonies can be hazardous. It’s not uncommon for soldiers to suddenly faint after standing at attention for a prolonged period. Is it because they are utterly overwhelmed by being in the presence of royalty or heads of state?

Watch The Best "Come On Down" Entrance Ever On 'The Price Is Right'

Quick math word problem here. What does ‘The Price Is Right’ plus zany college kids equal? Vanglorious behavior resulting in what may be the one of the more laughable entrances in the show’s history. These geniuses had the bright idea to crowd surf their friend all the way down to contestants’ row.

The International Trailer For 'The Counselor' Looks Awesome
25 aug 2013 00:02
In case you were wondering, Ridley Scott’s and Cormac McCarthy’s The Counselor still looks pretty ridiculously amazing. I know, I was also starting to worry that maybe the first trailer and clips were just an illusion and that I imagined the whole thing, but fortunately the international trailer was released this morning and now I feel a hell of a lot better. Javier Bardem still looks like your dad strung out on ecstasy in a mid-life crisis, while Brad Pitt is pretty intimidating as a long-haired cowboy. And Cameron Diaz looks better than she has in quite some time, probably because she’s being mean and I just love it when girls pretend like they don’t like me. “Here, have all of the money in my wallet,” I’ll say as she puts a cigarette out on my face. Anyway, enjoy the new international trailer.

Slanegirl Shows The Internet At Its Worst
25 aug 2013 00:02
Each Monday, I publish something called the Breaking Bad Power Rankings. It’s pretty self-explanatory: I rank the show’s characters, from Walt to Skyler to This Guy, by how badass they are. Today, I’m tweaking the formula for an entirely different story, one involving a blowjob at an Eminem concert. Here is: the Humanity Power Rankings. In last place…oh. THERE’S A TIE. Let’s meet everyone, shall we?

Shocking News: Jon 'Bones' Jones Wants To Be A Famous Actor
24 aug 2013 23:59
A few years ago, Strikeforce Women’s Middleweight Championship challenger Gina Carano figured out that she was pretty and people liked her, so she stopped getting punched in the face for a living and started doing MMA fight scenes in movies like Haywire. UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey’s is currently going through the same thing, starring alongside 40 60-year old men in The Expendables 3. One of the many conspiracy theories about Chris Weidman’s Middleweight Championship victory is that Anderson Silva threw the fight so he’d have more free time to make horrible-looking MMA movies. Hell, even Ken Shamrock was in Champions back in the day. MMA has proven to be a surprisingly-easy springboard into mainstream movie stardom, so it shouldn’t surprise you that UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones suddenly wants to be an actor. Or that he wants to be like The Rock, who is in, like, 65 of the 67 movies released this year. “I’d like to model my acting career on Dwayne Johnson, the way he came out of [WWE] and started off tough guy roles and then moved over to doing ‘Tooth Fairy,’” the 24-year-old Jones told MMAjunkie.com during an appearance at the UFC’s “World Tour” in Los Angeles. “That’s when you really saw that he could act, and he’s the one I admire and respect a lot, so I know I’d love to model my acting career after (him).” Yes, we all really saw The Rock’s acting chops in Tooth Fairy, because being tough and wearing a tutu means “acting.” We saw Hulk Hogan’s acting ability in Mr. Nanny. But don’t think it’s all tough guy roles and then ballerina costumes for Bones. He’s going to ply his craft!

Sneaking Back Onto A Website Is Now A Federal Crime | UPROXX
24 aug 2013 23:58
Banning an IP range, the largest of banhammers, is the ultimate crowd control tool for most websites. If you’re enough of a douchebag on a site, they will essentially make it impossible for you to come back. Of course, you can just disguise your IP address and get a new account, right? Uh, nope. Not anymore. In fact, cloaking your IP address has been ruled a violation of the Computer Fraud And Abuse Act, meaning it’s a federal crime to spoof your IP for the purposes of visiting a site you’ve been banned from. This isn’t some piddling random law, either; it’s the law that basically dictates what theft is and isn’t on the Internet in the United States. You might be wondering how the hell the federal government came up with this decision. The answer lies, surprisingly, with Craigslist. Craigslist has been fighting sites like PadMapper that scrape the site for information, and blocked their IP address. PadMapper and similar sites just hid their IPs. But according to U.S. District Court Judge Charles R. Breyer… The law of trespass on private property provides a useful, if imperfect, analogy. Store owners open their doors to the public, but occasionally find it necessary to ban disruptive individuals from the premises. That trespass law has enforced those bans with criminal penalties has not, in the brick and mortar context, resulted in the doomsday scenarios predicted by 3Taps in the internet context.

Here's Taylor Swift Singing 'Closer' With Tegan And Sara
24 aug 2013 23:58
Don’t hate. I know you want to. Sure you do. But go ahead and press play. Go ahead — I dare you. Now sit back and try not to be happy. Just try. You can’t do it, can you? Yeah, that’s what I thought. Your head’s bopping involuntarily isn’t it? You’re goddamn right it is! This song is infectious, and it’s somehow even more infectious when you toss in 15,000 screaming Taylor Swift fans as she bounces around the Staples Center stage in a little leather skirt. So yeah, HATER DONE GOT SERVED.

Internet Parodies Drake's 'Nothing Was The Same' Cover
24 aug 2013 23:57
We've had nearly 24 hours to sit and think about the album cover for Drake's Nothing Was the Same, and it's still no less funny and ridiculous and it looks like wrapping paper than it was yesterday. In that sense, it's so perfectly Drake, and if it's not airbrushed on the side of 17 vans by the end of the week, I will be sorely disappointed. Some people don't respect its imperfect perfections, though; they've decided to redo the cover, using Photoshops and llamas, which is also the name of my They Might Be Giants cover band. Here are some of the best parodies.

Watch Pearl Jam's 'Mind Your Manners' Video
24 aug 2013 23:56
Pearl Jam‘s love-hate relationship with making music videos is beginning to lean back toward “love.” After winning Best Video of the Year at the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards for the stupidly controversial “Jeremy,” Pearl Jam asserted that they were done with the medium. To quote bassist Jeff Ament, “I don’t want people to remember our songs as videos.” (That sentiment lasted until 1998, although to be fair, “Do the Evolution” was entirely animated.) In 2002, five live performances of songs from Riot Act were filmed and released as videos, and the same thing happened again for cuts from Pearl Jam and Backspacer. The video for “Mind Your Manners,” a single from the band’s forthcoming Lightning Bolt, isn’t as conceptually interesting as “Jeremy,” but there are visual nods to September 11th, so…that’s something? Also, a lot of lightning. Who doesn’t love a bolt of lightning?

*NSYNC Is Reuniting At MTV's VMAs On Sunday
24 aug 2013 23:56
While all the adults are watching Breaking Bad this Sunday, the kids table will will be tuned into a very different program: The Newsroom. You know children, they can’t get enough dramatized hindsight and Sam Waterston. But once they’re done giggling at Alison Pill and her inability to act like a normal human being, because women, they’ll tune into the MTV Video Music Awards, for The Gaga, The Daft Punk, The Hippity Hop, and mostly, The *NSYNC. "Justin Timberlake and his former *NSYNC band members are set to reunite for a special performance on the VMAs Sunday night at the Barclays Center, sources tell Page Six. MTV announced that Timberlake, who topped the charts in the late ’90s with the band, will perform at the VMAs and receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. But we’re told former bandmates J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick are scheduled to join him onstage for a reunion performance." --MTV news. It was nice of Manager Jerry to let Chris Kirkpatrick take a day off from his shift at Arby’s to attend the ceremony. He’ll just have to pull double sometime next week. Those toilets ain’t gonna un-clog themselves.

20 NSYNC Photos Justin Timberlake Wishes Would Go Away
24 aug 2013 23:51
Whether you were on Team Backstreet Boys or Team *NSYNC, there is one undeniable fact about the boy band craze of the 1990s: 98 Degrees were the best. *NSYNC was a close second, though, despite their infuriating name, which is why so many people are excited for their "reunion" appearance at the VMAs on Sunday. Justin Timberlake...and the rest are a reminder of better days, when you had to drive to the store and pay $20 for a CD. Wait. Those days were terrible. The hell were we thinking? Anyway, *NSYNC getting back together is surprising because I just assumed Timberlake wouldn't want to remind anyone of the photos below. The 1990s were a thing that happened. It was unfortunate for everyone, especially JT. But especially Joey Fatone.

Pulling the world apart, one animal at a time
23 aug 2013 11:40
The street artist going by the name of Nychos didn’t have what we’d call a ‘normal’ upbringing. He was born into an Austrian hunting family in South Africa and spent much of his childhood seeing things which many ‘normal’ people would consider cruel or even brutal. For Nychos though, it was a fascinating world. At seven he was bitten by a boar while he was playing in the forest close to home. Just a little while later he had boar meat for lunch. In another instance he saw a dead baby lamb being consumed by maggots the same color as its fur. Instead of being horrified, he was fascinated. He studied the hidden insides of animals and noticed the way life often grows from other life. At the same time he was also a child of the 80s, growing up watching cartoons and being influenced by their flashy bright colors.

LEGO Pop-Culture Portraits by Chris McVeigh

on small card stock, LEGO builder Chris McVeigh (aka Powerpig) decided to create his own LEGO versions. That is, he would take pop-culture characters we all know and love and create small portraits of them using only LEGO bricks. After making just one, his fans gave him such positive feedback that he knew he was onto something. As he tells us, "I quickly put together one of Wolverine and posted it on Instagram and Facebook. I was blown away by the response, and so I challenged myself to do more."

Internet Logo Designs Transformed Into Fashion
23 aug 2013 11:33
In this series, California-based photographer Viktorija Pashuta transformed a variety of web browser icons into trendy fashion statements. The Latvian fashion photographer has always wondered What if girls were internet browsers?, and so, the project brings that vision to life through a creative interpretation of the notable logos. To develop the project, Pashuta envisioned each browser with certain characteristics based on the styles of the popular symbols. She developed ensembles based off of these personifications and chose models Kaylen Dao, Brittany Ryan, Clancy McClain, Tracy Acholonu, and Polina Frantsena to don the inventive garb.

Street Artist Turns Found Garbage Into Quirky Characters
23 aug 2013 11:29
Street artist Francisco de Pájaro (aka “Art Is Trash”) takes piles of garbage found on the street and turns it into quirky art by painting faces and arranging it in humorous ways. The Spanish-born artist recently hit the streets of London and created a series with that city’s trash. Global Street Art’s James Buxton recently interviewed Pájaro for Société Perrier and quotes him, “We consume a lot, and rubbish is part of that, it’s people wasting things. There’s a romantic aspect, somebody’s given it up, they don’t want it, because one little bit is broken, because they don’t want to fix it, that’s the Capitalist mindset, so I give it life, so there’s a sensitive and romantic side to the work. It’s not all about monsters and nightmares in the work. Even when I’m making monsters, I’m taking things and bringing them back to life, giving them meaning.” Pájaro is currently exhibiting at a solo show titled “Police & Horse” at West Bank London Art in West London’s Notting Hill.

Best Nail Decals Ever
23 aug 2013 11:04
A few weeks ago I was perusing the Renegade Craft Fair and I came across ChaCha Covers. The shop sells nail decals, NOT blankets for your lady parts as I initially thought. They sell nail decals for every occasion. Pizza party? There’s pizza party nails. Jem and the Holograms marathon? ChaCha Covers has got you covered. Wearing a Marilyn Monroe costume? Marilyn Monroe didn’t wear her face on her nails but you totally can. Wu-Tang Clan blasting on your boombox? Oh they got Wu-Tang nails alright and Wu-Tang nails ain’t nuthing ta f*** wit. They even do custom stuff, so you can have any image on the decals. You know what I’m gonna get? A picture of nails on my nails. Nailception! Plus it’s because my nails are all kinds of ragged. I’m a biter!

Finland's 'Magic Forest' Is Actually A Place You'll Want To Avoid

The project’s photos show a puppy and a kitten having (what Farkas calls) “safe adventures” with ordinary household items, all shot from above. Artist Covered Entire Kitchen in Millions of Glass Beads
20 aug 2013 13:50
You might think you know what patience means, but American artist Liza Lou clearly has a bit better understanding about what meticulous work really is. Her first large scale work Kitchen took 5 years to complete (1991–1996), and is, as the title suggests, a life-size replica of a kitchen, covered entirely in millions of glass beads. Liza placed each of tiny beads separately using a pair of tweezers, and that way created an amazing mosaic surface to every single item in the room, from walls to newspaper to a bag of chips. In 1999, she was back with her new Backyard project, where she used over thirty million beads! Most of them went into creating 250,000 blades of grass around the picnic table. In 2013 Liza presented her last project, called Color Field, which will on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego through November 3rd. Color Field is meant as a tribute to the grasslands of South Africa, where Liza is currently based. The artist says that her work was inspired by traditional African bead crafts, which are still very much alive in the local culture. Giant Anteater’s Legs Look Like Pandas
20 aug 2013 13:48
What looks like a weirdly crooked panda sniffing the ground, is actually… a leg of a giant anteater! Look closer, and you’ll see its thin snout, tiny eye and one ear right above an astonishing panda-like leg. The illusion is caused by the colors of the anteater’s fur, as its black and white coat forms what looks like panda’s eyes, ears and a nose. What you don’t see are the large claws on each of their paws, which are curled when the anteater walks, and are used while digging through the anthill. The giant anteaters are the largest ones of the four anteater species, and can be found in different habitats, such as rainforests or grasslands. Unfortunately, the mammal is classified as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). That’s gotta be one of our favorite animals as of now!
