Cardboard Cut Out
04 apr 2013 05:19

India’s tech-city of Bangalore has been facing serious difficulties dealing with traffic violations that resulted in at least two road-related deaths per day, in 2012. Some sources say Bangalore needs at least 6,000 traffic policemen to keep things under control, but it currently has a personnel of 3,000. Instead of supplementing their ranks, local authorities have come up with an ingenious idea to make drivers behave at the wheel that doesn’t require significant expenditures - life-size cardboard cutouts of traffic policemen strategically placed on the city’s busiest roads.

Chris Evans Brought An Axe To New 'Snowpiercer' Trailer And Videos
09 jul 2013 14:14
Bong Joon-ho’s English debut Snowpiercer still doesn’t have a US release date set, but this high-concept sci fi will still be chugga-chugging its way into South Korean theaters on August 1st. In addition to the first footage and international trailer, we now have a shorter trailer and several videos about the film. Snowpiercer is based on French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, in which an experiment aimed to stop global warming triggers an ice age instead. All remaining humans live on a train (the Snowpiercer) with 1001 carriages and a perpetual motion engine. The social class system is based on how close your carriage is to the engine, and a revolution starts at the poor end of the train. Considering we were just in the longest recession since the Great Depression, The Weinstein Company might want to consider releasing this in America. Just saying, a lot of people can relate. Also, Captain America has an axe, so it’s got that going for it, which is nice.

Actresses Without Teeth

I don’t know how people come up with this stuff. I'm going to pretend that somebody accidentally spilled some ink on a magazine, and it blacked out somebody’s teeth, and that’s where the idea came from. Regardless of what inspired it, the Tumblr Actresses Without Teeth is strangely captivating. Maybe it’s because it’s funny. Maybe it’s because we hate ourselves. Either way, we all can’t stop looking. Here are a few pics, be sure to check out their Tumblr for loads more.

The Joker's Magic/Pencil Trick (High Quality)
03 apr 2013 15:49

As the world of cinema likes to frequently remind us, people die. With the exception of the cutesiest family film, most movies will feature someone being beaten, maimed or murdered. Interesting plot points maybe, but that doesn’t mean these scenes can’t get repetitive. A constant bombardment of death is depressing at the best of times, but there’s no need for it to boring too. So I appeal to the filmmakers of the world: put away your guns, knives and explosives, and get creative when ending your characters’ existence. Fortunately, there are people who share my view, and have already given us some innovative, fresh, and down-right bizarre weapons. Below is a short list I have compiled, displaying an array of unlikely instruments of death, that show us that when it comes murder, they haven’t run out of ideas just yet…

“The world ain’t saving itself.” That line, a call to arms, is attributed to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation character. And Johnson knows a thing or two about “saving.” After attempting to launch his own action franchises with movies like The Rundown and Doom, D.J. discovered a new calling in the film industry: he’s the elixir brought in to “heal” franchises that have lost their way. So I've cooked up five film franchises in need of an energy boost that would be well served by adding Johnson for a subsequent sequel. Picture the action star in these five universes, then add your own suggestions in the comments section below. Photoshop work by Kristy Puchko

Madonna takes a selfie on twitter
03 apr 2013 14:25

Madonna, Madonna, Madonna. The Queen of Pop is infamous for pushing envelopes and breaking rules, but not even the Material Girl herself is free from Instagram‘s fury. The ‘Girl Gone Wild’ singer was slapped with a violation notice from the photo sharing service, which she shared with her 152,000+ followers. Madge posted a photo of the violation notice for her followers to see. The notice warned against posting photos featuring “nudity or mature content” as well as against sharing photos that come from third parties. “We value these guidelines, and believe that they will help keep Instagram a safe & fun place for everyone,” the message says. “It is important to note that continuing to violate them may result in a disabled account, or discontinued access to Instagram, without warning.” It’s not entirely clear which violation Madonna was being cited for, but she has posted cleavage and butt-centered shots. Still, those are tame compared to the photos Rihanna posts every 10 minutes!

Niki Minaj posts this photo on her twitter
03 apr 2013 14:23

Nicki Minaj is known for her cornucopia of wigs, which allows her to change her hair and look daily. That’s why she is able to rock the long, straight and platinum blond locks one day and swap ‘em out to sport a bright pink angled bob the next. But rare is the case where we get to see her real strands. With all the strain and stress being placed on her natural follicles, you’d think her real hair, which rarely sees the light of day, would be short and somewhat damaged from the strenuous workout she puts it through in order to accommodate for all of her faboosh wigs. It would not have shocked us if she even went bald underneath so that her wigs sit better on her noggin. Not so! Minaj tweeted a photo of her mega long, layered, cut-to-a-point natural black hair, which hangs all the way down her back. We were surprised that it is that long, making it harder to tuck under her faux hairpieces! It’s in decent condition, too, considering the beating it takes. The ends could use a snip and she could lob off several inches to purge the dead ends. But overall, the condition is decent. Below is her tweet, which is just a bunch of hashtags about her locks and their length. She suggests that she will wear her real hair out once it reaches her butt, so there goes our whole suggestion of trimming the ends to clean it up a little. “#LongHairDontCare#HangTime#ImaWearItOutWhenItTouchesMyA–.”

Deserving IMAX Movies
03 apr 2013 14:21

This weekend, Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark was re-released in IMAX theatres for a one-week exclusive engagement. I found it to be an absolutely invigorating experience, not just because is Raiders is one of my very favorite movies, but because the gorgeous cinematography, iconic action scenes, rousing John Williams score, and incredible Ben Burtt sound design all looked and sounded better than ever blown up to IMAX proportions. I do not exaggerate when I say that, for all the times I have seen Raiders, I had never seen it like this. In this day and age, when movies come out in IMAX all the time, it seems only natural to offer an iconic adventure film like Raiders in the format. In fact, there are plenty of classic films that would do well in IMAX. Movies with incredible aesthetics that could be enjoyed to their fullest on a giant IMAX screen in the format’s 15/70 perf. 70mm film stock. While there are probably too many deserving films to count, I have picked the ten movies I would most like to see released on IMAX, and it is the topic of today’s countdown.

8 Films You Just Can't Hate
03 apr 2013 14:05

Really serious movie people, like the kinds who write for newspapers and magazines and want to be taken really really seriously when it comes to opinions on movies (which they would of course refer to as “films”, or “cinema”), usually prefer movies that are serious so they can talk about them in a serious way and demonstrate how serious they are. If you take a look at the yearly top ten lists for most critics, they’ll be comprised of many serious dramas. I’m guilty of this. It’s understandable why these movies can be divisive. Opinions naturally split on whether a dramatic movie works or not. The same is true of comedies, perhaps even more so, because comedy is often an even more particularly subjective experience. People differ on comedic takes rather strongly. And yet there are some movies that seem to be impossible to dislike. They have a spirit of general enjoyment, a tone of happiness that is overwhelming, though not to the point of being suffocating. There are lots of movies that try too hard to be cheery, and that can be annoying, so it should not be discounted just how difficult it is to pull off a truly happy, universally-appealing movie. But there are a number to draw from, that frequently end up in people’s lists of all-time faves. Here is a list of 8 happy movies that I have yet to hear complaints about, except from angry people who genuinely hate life and detest joy.

Balancing Rock

There are certain natural occurrences and organic structures in the world that leave us all scratching our heads. One such natural wonder is Kummakivi, a geological formation found in the dense forests of Finland. The mystifying sight is that of a giant rock performing an unbelievable balancing act on a seemingly smooth, curved mound. There is still no scientific explanation for how the rock, whose given name translates as "strange rock" in Finnish, has wound up in such a perplexing position, but doesn't it look amazing?

The Hangover...as a Horror
03 apr 2013 12:47

As much of a nightmare as the actual ‘Hangover’ movie was (just imagining the headache kind of made us want to die), it makes sense that it could be easily re-cut into a horror film. Here’s a trailer that does just that, and succeeds. Because it turns out if you take away the outrageous jokes, a group of people being drugged and losing one of their friends is actually kind of scary. Also, Zach Galifianakis is only a few steps away from psycho killer at any given moment. Well done.
