Bite Your Way Out Of Tuesday With Some Wolverine GIFs
23 jul 2013 16:19
It's a good year to be Wolverine. He's got a new movie that's looking to clean up at the box office, a rebooted series that's well worth reading on the stands, and he might be the star of yet another franchise in X-Force. So, to celebrate, we deploy the GIFs. This is pretty heavy on the Jackman because, let's face it, GIFing movies is pretty easy and it's not like Jackman's visage is this eye-searing monstrosity. We did find a few neat shout-outs to the comics and video games he's been in, though, including on that's highly relevant to the new movie.

Star Wars Vs. Game Of Thrones Is Intense
23 jul 2013 15:49
*starts speaking like a movie trailer voiceover guy* "Since the dawn of time, the world has been locked in conflict. Dogs vs. cats. Pepsi drinkers vs. Coke guzzlers. Jews vs. everyone. Springfield vs. Shelbyville. But now, there is a new battle, the likes of which has never been seen before: Star Wars vs. Game of Thrones." *record scratch* On Reddit, Lucas lovers and Martin admirers have been pitting Star Wars against GoT, to figure out which nerd franchise is more intense. The seemingly obvious answer is the latter, but the former makes a strong point, as seen below. Who won? Let me know in the comments section ;D

Spooky Algorithmic Images Create The 'Face' Of A Film
23 jul 2013 15:09
Every film you’ve seen, no matter what type of format or device you’ve seen it on, is a continuously moving composition of frames. But stock standard movie posters aside, how can you truly encapsulate a film’s mood & its characters? Well, enterprising and artistic duo Shinseungback + Kimyonghun have come up with a succinct solution for that very question. Together, they’ve pulled together a series of faces from the likes of The Matrix, Black Swan, Avatar and Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and created an algorithmic composite of frames used in the movie which contain faces. They’ve used a facial recognition tool which automatically detects any face every 24 frames – as the movie continues, frame by frame, it begins to generate “the face” of the film itself. The images themselves provide a haunting almost dreamlike summary of the films they represent, The Matrix for example contains the dingy green colour filter used throughout the film, whilst the Avatar composite is ambiguous and gender neutral. What movies would you like to see them generate next? Let them know, by getting in touch with Shinseungback + Kimyonghun via their official site

25 Rarely Seen Artworks Painted By Adolf Hitler
23 jul 2013 14:54
Before putting his hand to the executive order that lead to millions of innocent individuals being killed, nearly destroying the Western world as we know it, Adolf Hitler was an upcoming (re: unsuccessful) artist. He actually applied to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, only to be turned down not once but twice due to his “unfitness for painting” – it’s not hard to see why.

Deceptive Fast Food Ads vs Reality
23 jul 2013 14:47
If you’re Banksy you have a very dim view of advertising in general, but sometimes ads really can have the power to entertain, impress and truly command your attention. But then there’s the worst kind, not the ones pushing dodgy products that you know don’t work or will fall apart 2 hours after buying them, we’re talking about those advertisement that are smug enough to lie to your face and hope you believe them.

This Was The Summer Of 1969 In New York City
23 jul 2013 14:43
As Bryan Adam’s famous declared in his song ‘The Summer of 69′ "Oh, when I look back now That summer seemed to last forever And if I had the choice Yeah, I’d always wanna be there Those were the best days of my life” He probably wasn’t wrong. It was a fascinating period in America, which saw not only the Woodstock Festival capture the imagination of music fans the world over, but it was also the year the US landed on the moon. Both of those highlights were tempered with the Stonewall riots and the grizzly Manson murders that whipped celebrities into a frenzy of panic. Here’s a few photographs from the sweltering heat of New York City in 1969, a look back on the free spirit, fashion and individuals that defined an era.

NEW! ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Trailer
22 jul 2013 15:25
If Peeta and Katniss (given the hilarious mashup name Peeniss by fans) are your thing, there will be plenty of angst in the upcoming ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ film. But since there will also be a lip lock between Katniss and Gale (aka Kale), that should make the other half of the fandom happy. If you’re in that latter group, the brand new theatrical trailer has some Jennifer Lawrence on Liam Hemsworth action just for you. While at San Diego Comic-Con promoting the upcoming film on Saturday, July 20, Lawrence talked about a gross kiss between her and co-star Josh Hutcherson (warning: it contains some pretty unsexy bodily fluids) and discussed the wild parties the cast held while filming in Hawaii. “[They] were so weird,” Lawrence admitted. “Woody Harrelson in a cropped top was my favorite. He got really hot and wanted to borrow a shirt of mine because he wore a thermal and the only thing he could fit in was a baggy crop top.” “And the best part is nobody mentioned it! The whole party, like nobody said anything. They’re just like, ‘Yeah, Woody’s in a crop top.’ That was great.” Can you say “favorite new mental image”?

Drumming Grandma Is the Most Unlikely Rock Star You’ll Ever See

Meet the coolest grandma around. A YouTube clip has been making the rounds featuring the “grandma drummer” — an elderly woman named Mary playing the drums at the Coalition Drum Shop in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Not only does she play well, she twirls the sticks like she’s been doing this for years, which based on her skills, maybe she has. Of course, a woman this age who can still bring it shouldn’t be tooling around in a drum shop in the Midwest. She should be on tour with the Rolling Stones. Check her out in action below.

Erica [his wife] and family are going to be so pissed…but at my age…” The photo sent the microblogging site into overdrive, with more than 1,000 retweets. Astounding Light Torch Recreations Of Masterpieces By Michael Bosanko.
19 jul 2013 15:42

Light artist Michael Bosanko has a very unique way of creating amazing pieces using light torches. Here's the process in his own words, "In real time, I leave the camera's exposure open," he said. "While the camera is exposing for up an hour, I step into the scene and move light sources in a way that is captured on the camera's sensor. In real time, the casual viewer will only see me moving lights about in what seems a random fashion. All the while the camera's sensor is picking up the trails of light, and recording real time in one still image." In his recent project he used colored torches to copy masterpieces from artists throughout history. Check them out!

You’d be forgiven for doing a double-take with the following images, such is flawless nature of photographer Gus Petro imaginative manipulations. Whilst on a trip to the US last year, he felt inspired to start two different projects, one called Dense and the other Empty. One centred on photographing the built up streets & tall skyscrapers of New York City, the other shifted his focus to the vast hollow spaces of the Grand Canyon. But when he was back home in Switzerland, he hit upon the novel idea of incorporating both sets of photographs into an entirely new series. He’s calling it Merge, placing the bustling New York City itself deep inside the heart of Grand Canyon with breath-taking effect. “After showing the images, most of the people who haven’t been in either place thought it was real. They began questioning me where it is. I didn’t expect that for sure.” You can see more of his superb work via his official site - which two places would you like to see him merge next?
