Singers Who Should Make EDM Albums
26 mar 2013 14:17

Vocals on EDM can be tricky; when they're done well ("Clarity," "Sweet Nothing"), you've got an entirely new dynamic added to a dance track. When done not so well... you kind of wish the producer and the singer would just die in a fire. One thing that'll be inevitable once more major labels start digging their heels into EDM is the dreaded collaboration, where an established singer will try to get some appeal by using EDM artists to spice them up. A lot of them just don't sound right... There are some singers who could make the grade; singers who, if dedicated to an entire EDM project, could really turn these tracks into something special. A number of these artists have already dealt with EDM producers before, or have voices/styles that fit well within the vast dance music scene. Some might be obvious choices, others might be more left field, but we feel that this batch of singers could (and should) make some beautiful electronic dance music, if paired with the right producers.

Python
26 mar 2013 14:15

Be careful drinking and buying. Dwayne Matthews of Willenhall, England, awoke to see one of his drunken purchases, a 30-pound rock python named Bruce, "rearing up with its jaws open" above his sleeping friend — generally not something you want to see while nursing an English-grade hangover. Apparently he had purchased the snake the night before from a gypsy. Luckily Matthews awoke just in time to see the snake and promptly threw a blanket over it and put it in an aquarium. He then brought the snake to a local pet shop. He was then promptly arrested for buying stolen goods.

Alleged Assault

Gucci Mane is in trouble with the law again after an incident that took place last Friday at the Harlem Nights club in Atlanta. According to Atlanta’s WSBTV.com, a soldier who has served in Afghanistan was celebrating his birthday at the club and says that he wanted to take a picture with Gucci. He claims that he said to a security guard, ”I’m in the military. I wanted to get a picture with Gucci Mane, is it OK?” Next he recalls, “I was speaking to the security guard, and Gucci Mane hit me in the head with a bottle. And as I looked at him in the shock of why, one of his friends hit me in the side of my face.” The man went to the hospital and needed 10 stitches. He claims that he also suffered a concussion. Jeff Cantin of the Atlanta Police Department confirmed that Gucci—real name: Radric Davis—is a wanted man: “We do have an active warrant for Mr. Davis for aggravated assault. So I’m sure after he sees this, I’m sure he’ll want to reach out and contact us.” The soldier added, “He could have possibly killed me. I just hope and pray that I recover pretty well because I still want to serve my military career.” Gucci Mane has not commented on the incident to give his side of the story. wsbtv.com

Josie Cunningham

Josie Cunningham was not happy with her 32A Breasts. She was so unhappy that somehow she managed to convince the National Health Service board to approve an operation to enhance her beasts to 36DD's. Which meant she did not have to pay a dime of the $7,279 operation and the British taxpayers did. She stated her formerly flat chest made her emotionally distressed. She went on to say "I want money and fame." and "My new boobs can make it all happen". The taxpayers felt duped on this one. The NHS is for people with serious medical needs not wannabe career models. Josie got away with one here.

Alcohol
26 mar 2013 13:22

The Irish town of Kilgarvan passed a motion this winter calling for some members of its community to be allowed to drink and drive. This motion was proposed by local pub owner / Politician Danny Healy-Rae. The motion would all for the minister of justice to allow police to decide whether to issue permits to people who live in country areas to be allowed to drink two or three drinks before they drive home. Healy-Rae said the motion would preserve pub culture and lower the risk of suicide based on attack isolation in small towns. The Alcohol safety organizations slammed the proposed plan. Healy-Rae responded to all the backlash and says it isn't supposed to apply to everyone, mainly the old people who live far out in the country side. He claims "What else are they supposed to do with no public transportation, stay home lonely and stare at the walls?" Some local politicians are still shocked the motion passed.

Advertising campaigns have the ability to shape our perception, dictate our mood, awake the senses and increasingly alter our habits. As society’s values have changed, so too has the types of adverts which are deemed acceptable or unacceptable. With years of research behind them, advertising agencies have found new and creative ways of getting our attention. The trouble is, there’s still a certain amount of guess-work with any type of creative campaign. Even with big budgets sometimes the ads themselves are too vague, confronting or irrelevant to have any real impact. Sometimes they even exceed expectations. With that in mind we’ve pull together 14 confronting often highly confusing anti-smoking adverts from around the world. Do let us know what you think in the comments at the bottom of this post, there are some truly head-scratching moments to be had.

Kids Risking There Lives
26 mar 2013 10:46

For most parents and kids, crossing the street to catch the school bus is perhaps the riskiest part of the school run. But take a look at these Chinese schoolchildren from the village of Genguan. Everyday, these young kids walk along a precarious path carved by the side of a cliff, as they make their way to class in Bijie, in southwest China's Guizhou Province. Banpo Elementary School is located halfway up a mountain and the path to it winds through treacherous hillside passes and tunnels hewn out of the rock. The pebble-covered footpath is less than 0.5 meters wide, which means the children have to walk single file and press themselves into the side of the mountain if someone wants to squeeze past. This footpath was created 40 years ago as an irrigation ditch and although there is another safer route, but taking this means the children have to spend two hours to walk to school. The only assurance for parents is that Headmaster Xu Liangfan accompanies the 49 kids to school.

Shows like Boardwalk Empire and Underbelly: Razor have given us a great glimpse at what the criminal underworld looked like in the 1920′s. Men of the era wore dapper suits, hats and shoes shined to a mirror finish while respectable women wouldn’t leave the house without a long dress, hat and gloves. This series of police photos from Australia were shot in the police stations and prisons of New South Wales between 1912 and 1930. They are incredible, not only for the composition of the photos which at times resembles that of a series of professionally staged portraits, but also for the subjects themselves who seem quite at ease posing for the camera. Many of these photos wouldn’t have seemed out of place above the mantle piece. Sydney criminals then, not only were they wayward deviants looking to break the law at every opportunity, they often did so looking rather stylish!

Bartenders Probably Won't Exist In The Future & Here's Why
28 may 2013 11:32
Here’s some chilling news to make the blood of bartenders around the world run cold. With our greatest emphasis on faster and faster service and a burning desire from business to keep up with supply and demand, many of the items we consume are processed without human intervention. Despite their ads of chefs fluttering around a kitchen using gourmet ingredients, fast food chains use “mechanically separated” meat in their meals – robots, not humans doing the slicing. So there’s a sense of inevitability that over time, robots will replace some of the more menial tasks of every day life. And that’s where Makr Shakr comes in, it’s a robotic bartending group, composed of 3 robots that work in unison to pour, blend and then serve your perfect beverage. I First you select the drink you’d like, there’s over 100 to choose from cocktails and liquors to beers and champagne and then Makr Shakr instantly gets to work creating it. It’s the result of a partnership between Italian architecture studio Carlo Ratti Associati and MIT SENSEable City Laboratory, it made its big premiere in May at the Google I/O 2013 showcase in San Francisco. Fast forward 10 years and new versions of these robots will be smaller, faster and cheaper. Is it that unrealistic to imagine that they could they become common place in bars around the world? Could they sit comfortable alongside the espresso machine eagerly awaiting your order and thus spelling the end of an era for your local bartender? Just maybe.

Sexy Stripper

Being a stripper might seem like a profitable job, however it's very tough. Strippers are considered independent contractors, therefore letting their bosses avoid employment taxes, not complying with discrimination laws and not offering any benefits. Hima B., a former stripper in San Francisco paid $5 "stage fee" when she started working in 1992, by 1999, the fees have grown to $200 per shift. Strippers also have to pay the boss for every private dance, for showing up late, missing a shift, and other rent. It's very common for club owners to hang a bunch of fees on strippers, basically depriving them of a decent salary. They rely only on tips. There are currently many girls fighting for labor rights in courts and quite a few have succeeded.
