The brain is quite talented at recognizing human faces; perhaps too talented. We often see face-like qualities in inanimate objects and interpret the pattern as a face. Here are a few examples of this psychological phenomenon!

Dina Goldstein brings us this series called Fallen Princesses. Or as I like to call it, Sadness with an extra shot of depresso. The photos feature the lives of fairy tale heroines post happily ever after. Snow White’s barefoot and pregnant, Pocahontas is a cat lady, Ariel’s trapped in an aquarium… mega sad stuff. If fairytales don’t even have happy endings, then none of us regular people have any hope. Granted, I didn’t have much to begin with, but now I got zero. BRB crying in the shower.

Art director, illustrator, and graphic designer Olaf Cuadras created a series of playful movie posters that transform each story into minimalist designs. In the series, simply called Minimal Movie Posters, the Barcelona-based artist developed concepts for some classics including The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Die Hard, and Terminator 2. The prints feature very simple, flat illustrations that portray the main characters of the stories, many of whom boast a bright pink nose in what seems to be Cuadras' signature style. The bold blocks of color and simple fonts reflect the vibe of the movies, while many of the cartoon depictions are actually quite recognizable. Cuadras also pairs the characters with various props. For example, in the Die Hard depiction, Bruce Willis's character points his machine gun to the sky with a burning building in the background. In The Big Lebowski depiction, The Dude and Walter stand atop the central plot point, the ruined rug. Any movie fans out there will just love the very fun and vibrant collection that visually captures the essence of each film.

Austin-based photographer Emily Blincoe seems to have quite the sweet tooth. For her Sugar Series, she collected a wide range of color-specific candies, arranged them in deliciously symmetrical squares, and then photographed the organized compositions. She included every candy one can imagine, including lollipops, bubble gum, all kinds of fruit chews, hard candy sticks, taffy, gummy bears, PEZ, and even little heart-shaped piles of nerds. Each photograph features a slew of candies set against a solid, color coordinated background. Blincoe features the full rainbow—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple—as well as black, gold, and white. The light is exactly the same in every photograph, shining in from the left and casting shadows off to the right, which adds a bit of depth to the arrangements. Viewers can't help but wonder if, at the conclusion of the project, Blincoe enjoyed a little feast of sugary treats!

Tali Shaul and Hagit Morevski are friends from Even Yehuda in Israel. The pair were enthusiastic to work together on a creative project and were inspired by an article on alternative housing they read in a women’s magazine. They bought this 12 foot long bus from a scrapyard and have since completely redesigned the interior transforming it into this sophisticated luxury living space.

The blue color is from a combination of a light tranquilizer, stress coat, and a medication to help prevent the fish from getting sick.

While I hate to use the word "precious" when describing anything related to children, there's just no other way to describe these illustrations by Pascal Campion. The San Francisco-based illustrator and animator makes us stop and appreciate the fleeting moments in life - the kind that pass us by in the blink of an eye. As a first time mom, these illustrations seem to take on a whole new meaning. You can tell that this French-American illustrator finds inspiration in his own family life. As he says on his website, "Sometimes it’s being at the supermarket or giving a bath to my daughter and she looks at me and smiles. It lasts for a second, but the memory of it stays with me for a long time. These are the things that interest me the most."

The makers of CoD: Ghosts are promising their character editor is deep enough to create at least 20,000 unique combinations. - Oh, and you can create lady soldiers this time around, because murder and teabagging is just more fun in mixed company, don’t you think? - You can create up to 10-soldiers, each with a unique look and loadout. - News modes such as “Cranked”, in which a kill basically gives you a dose of speed, but also starts a 30-second timer during which you must get another kill, “Search and Rescue” where teammates can revive you if they grab your tags before the enemy, or “Squads” in which you get to put together custom squads to take on missions. - Of course there will be all sorts of new guns, killstreaks, maps and everything else you’d expect as well. So apparently, this cleaver girl has made a living impersonating famous UFC fighters on youtube and yes, she's made a couple of them. Whomever is responsible for running the Twitter account for the York Regional Police in Ontario deserves at least a free lunch this week – and maybe a day of parking wherever he or she wants – as one specific Tweet yesterday morning racked up 3,960 retweets (and counting) and gained the YPD a ton of new followers. After a Toronto mechanic named Sunith Baheerathan Tweeted a request for some dealers to come sell him pot at work, the YPD took notice and provided quite the hilarity on an otherwise tame Tuesday.

I didn’t think we’d find a video involving the performance of a classic song better than yesterday’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” impressionist, but this Elton John mashup is downright awesome. Posted to YouTube last October, this video shows the legendary singer/songwriter performing his 1970 classic “Your Song” over the span of four decades, and the editing job is just perfect. The result is simply marvelous, and I can’t believe that it only has 2,554 views. Like Jon Bon Jovi and Nelson Mandela before him, the latest celebrity to be hit with a death hoax is former Chicago Bears defensive tackle William “Refrigerator” Perry, who was declared dead earlier today in a post at TigerNet.com that has since been deleted. TigerNet covers Clemson University athletics, as the Fridge played football for the Tigers. As with any good game of Internet telephone, TigerNet’s report quickly spread on Twitter, as Bears fans and NFL fans in general began mourning the loss of the 50-year old big man, who holds the record for the largest Super Bowl ring ever created with a ridiculous size 25. But the rumors were bound to hit Perry’s friends and family and some point, and eventually even the man himself.

A Reddit user, who goes by the name SirTechnocracy, apparently proposed to his girlfriend by posting a series of meme pictures on the site. According to the post, he had already picked out the ring with his girlfriend, but she wanted a surprising, unique proposal. He also said that commissioning all the pics “took months and a couple thousand dollars.” His additional plan was to put the ring in a safe and engrave the Half-Life 3 release date into it so it could get enough up votes to get on the front page of Reddit. A Reddit user shared a prank he pulled on a friend he was pet sitting for while they were out of town. Reports are coming in early Wednesday morning that a UPS Airbus A300 with registration N155UP has crashed just outside Birmingham Airport, short of runway 18. Early reports have not yet mentioned a possible cause, number of crew on board, or any injuries on the ground. WVTM-TV in Alabama claims the area of the crash was once a neighborhood, but is now an open field, owned by the airport. The crashed flight may have been UPS 1354, from Louisville Intl (KSDF) to Birmingham, a short 45 minute hop. The mayor of Birmingham has confirmed 2 fatalities as a result of the crash, the pilot and co-pilot. There were no injuries on the ground. The NTSB has launched a full go-team to the site. Birmingham Airport remains open, and flights are operating on time. NOTAMs are reporting that runway 18/36 is closed, and PAPI lights as well as the ILS system for runway 18 are down. The mayor of Birmingham, William Bell, noted a long debris field, with the airframe broken up into several parts, and that there were no storms in the area. AL.com reports that authorities tell them that no distress calls were made to the tower prior to the crash.
