BREAKING NEWS! Daily Show: Texas Senate To Task Over Wendy Davis
27 jun 2013 14:33
Anyone surprised that this was coming? Last night John Oliver basically reprimanded anyone who watched his show (or, say, stories about muffins) on Tuesday night because they should have been paying attention to everyone’s new hero Wendy Davis. In case anyone missed those crazy events, Oliver gave a fantastic recap. His crack about the shoe deal was particularly brilliant. But the ending? That was the kicker. I won’t spoil it, so just watch yourselves.

Underwear Model + Marine Alex Minsky Wowed Us on Jay Leno Last Night
27 jun 2013 14:28
Alex Minsky is a real American hero, but he’s also a real sexy American underwear model now. And last night, he was a real cutie on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.’ On the June 26 show, former Marine and underwear model Alex Minsky was one of the guests and it was adorable. He kept looking to his mom in the audience because he was so nervous! He also explained that when he lost his leg in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan, his jaw was also broken in four places. (When Leno’s other guest, Whitney Cummings, saw photos of Minsky’s underwear modeling, she mused “I could break my jaw in four places, too.” Girl, you just did not.) Minsky is a tattooed hunk, and we’re not sure why he didn’t start modeling before he took off for war because DAMN. Boy has got IT. Check out Minsky on Leno below, and underneath that you’ll find some delightful photos of the former marine and underwear model, posing for UnderwearExpert.

Holy Crap, Neville from ‘Harry Potter’ Got Sexy
27 jun 2013 14:26
In the ‘Harry Potter’ films, Harry has a little friend named Neville who’s kind of dorky, awkward, and mousy, and doesn’t quite fit in with everyone else because he’s a timid little thing. But you guys, that kid — whose real name is Matthew Lewis — grew up to be really hot. What is in the water in England and when can we send things there to make them look this good?! Actor Matthew Lewis is all grown up and all grown sexy. In the ‘Potter’ movies, he was really dorky and his front teeth were adorably kind of crooked, and then BOOM. Puberty hit and gave us the greatest example of puberty doing what it does best. Lewis got like, super hot. Possibly even hotter than Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe. Now he’s got this sexy Clive Owen thing going on with his strong eyebrows and gentle eyes, and that smile that could probably power your entire apartment. You look at him and you just let out a neverending “whaaaaaaaaat.” Currently, you can see Lewis on the BBC series ‘The Syndicate.’ So maybe figure out which channel in your lineup is the BBC, okay?

Jimmy Kimmel Proves Justin Bieber’s Fans Will Forgive Him for Anything
27 jun 2013 14:25
To see just how forgiving Justin Bieber fans are of his transgressions, Jimmy Kimmel sent a reporter out to talk to Beliebers and ask them how they feel about his recent spate of heinous and/or ridiculous bad behavior. But here’s the catch: These aren’t things the Biebs actually did. The takeaway is that basically, Beliebers will forgive Justin anything, even if it’s desecrating national symbols, being illiterate or parking in handicap spots. In this segment of ‘Lie Witness News,’ Bieber fans are asked hilariously untrue questions like, “Are you upset because his new Bentley has tires made of baby seals?” And, “Do you think Justin meant it when he peed on the American flag?” Or our favorite, “Justin punched his grandma in the stomach so hard that she had to go to the hospital, is that okay?” Spoilers: According to his fans, Justin Bieber can punch all the grandmas he wants. Other answers include “he shouldn’t have to walk much” and “he’s like God.” And if this surprises you, check out how many young girls were recently willing to convert to Islam just to maybe win a pair of Bieber concert tickets. Ugh. Do the children have to be our future?

Bette Midler Sang ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ to a Dying Fan
27 jun 2013 14:24
Legendary actress and singer Bette Midler initially met fan Anna Greenberg at a film screening, and when she heard Greenberg — who was dying of a rare form of cancer — had taken a turn for the worse, she gave her new friend a call and wound up serenading her. Got your Kleenex ready? Because seriously, you’re gonna need it. A family member of Anna’s video-taped the May 13 call, in which you can hear Bette on speaker phone saying, “You’re such a wonderful soul and I am so glad that I got the chance to meet you … You have enhanced my life probably as much as you say I have enhanced yours.” At around the 4:25 mark on the video, Midler asks Anna if there’s anything she can do for her. The dying girl asks Bette to sing ‘Wind Beneath My Wings,’ to which she graciously responds, “Of course, angel.” And then the Divine Miss M does an emotional and tear-filled version of the song. Anna died just a few days later. She was only 28.

Oprah, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift 2013's Most Powerful Celebrities
27 jun 2013 14:22
She spent the past two years in the paltry No. 2 slot, but Oprah Winfrey is back — she’s been named Forbes’ Most Powerful Celebrity of 2013. The Forbes list reveals the big O raked in $77 million between June of 2012 and the same month this year. Other stars who ranked lower may have earned more, but since the list involves an algorithm that takes into account “entertainment-related earnings plus media visibility (exposure in print, television, radio and online),” the media queen reigned supreme. Coming in second place this year was Lady Gaga, who earned $80 million and was ranked third in social media (bested only by Rihanna and Justin Bieber). Director Steven Spielberg came in No. 3 overall thanks to his movie ‘Lincoln’ and an impressive $100 million in earnings. He’s outranked in terms of money only by Madonna, who made $125 million and took the No. 5 slot on the Forbes list. Meanwhile, Beyonce came in at No. 4, while her husband Jay-Z landed at No. 32. You can head over to Forbes for the full list of 100 celebs, but here’s the Top 10 for your immediate perusing pleasure: http://www.forbes.com/fdc/welcome_mjx.shtml

Iconic Cars In Film Brilliantly Brought Back To Life
27 jun 2013 14:10
Sometimes the most memorable scenes from films are not those staring the actors, but actually the props. Remember when you first saw the classic Ecto-1 car from Ghostbuster hurling through the streets of New York? Or the stylish sleek Batmobile speeding along chasing those dastardly villains? And what about the Delorean car from Back to the Future – how badly did we all want a ride that? Each car is not etched in movie folklore, constantly referenced in popular culture and are now established as iconic moments from the films they starred in. Just like many film fans, exceptional Turkish photographer Cihan Ünalan loves these classic cars as well – so much so that he has created his own magnificent tribute to them. He has single-handily built small models of each famous car, photographing them in crisp detail. You can see more of his incredible efforts and entire the series Cars We Love right here. Happy Graduation, Grandma! 100-Year Old Receives Diploma
27 jun 2013 13:59
A Mexican grandmother has proven that it is never too late to go back to school. The classroom may be the last place you would expect to find most 100-year-olds, but Manuela Hernandez is far from your typical centurion. Growing up in a poor family in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, she spent only one year in grade school before the financial strain meant that she had to swap education for domestic chores. Speaking to Uno TV, Mrs Hernandez said, “I passed by the school many times but I couldn’t be a student because my mother was very poor.” Born in 1913, Manuela Hernandez was forced to trade in literacy and arithmetic for standing on a box to swat away flies. Now, a mere 90 years later, she has finally achieved her childhood dream. Mrs Hernandez was presented with her thoroughly well-earned diploma in a celebratory ceremony held in the southern Mexican state, in which over half of citizens over the age of 15 have not completed primary level education. But this academia-driven grandmother is not quite ready to exchange pens for slippers yet, as she now has her sights firmly set on high school. And who knows, college could be next on the list…

10 Best Modes of Transportation in RPGs
27 jun 2013 13:44
Coinciding with the celebration of Father’s Day, we remember the various times in RPG history when we were first given the keys to modes of transportation that helped us in saving the world. Usually given to the player later on, vehicles were a sign of progression throughout the narrative of a role-playing game. After exploring various parts of the world, you were typically given a way of travel to help speed up the process of tying up loose ends in preparation for the final battle. A long time ago, when world maps were actually explorable and not simply a list to choose towns/destinations from, vehicles and animals were always highly anticipated as players walked around the world. Keep some Gysahl Greens handy and make sure the e-brake is disengaged, because we’re paying homage to the 10 Best Modes of Transportation in RPGs.

102-Year-Old Ship in Sydney Became A Floating Forest
27 jun 2013 12:33
For all those whose heart starts beating faster when they see something old and abandoned, Homebush Bay in Sydney is the place to visit. This is were many 20th century ships, which are no longer used, ended up: one of them, the SS Ayrfield, is definitely the most impressive sight for all the lush flora, growing in its rusted hull. The fully-grown mangrove trees earned this 102-year-old, 1,140-tonne ship the Floating Forest name among the locals. The SS Ayrfield served as a collier on the sixty-miler run between Newcastle and Sydney and would transport the supplies to American troops in the Pacific Ocean. The ship was brought to the Bay back in 1972 to be dismantled, but the operations eventually ceased and the bay no longer served as a ship wrecking yard. The SS Ayrfield, along with many other ships that were used during WW2, were simply left there to decay. Besides its history for ship-breaking and the spooky ship cemetery, Homebush Bay is home to the Olympic Stadium today as well. Although there are people, passionate about photographing various abandoned objects, many tourists are drawn to the bay because of the Floating Forest alone. What a sight!

Unexpected Pin-Up Portraits Explore Feminine Beauty
27 jun 2013 11:33
These oil on canvas paintings by artist Emily Burns explore contemporary concepts of female beauty. The artist's experimental portraits, a series entitled Deer Girls, feature sensual, feminine figures paired with deer heads. The realistic pin-up girl portraits stimulate a curiosity about the natural blend between human and animal. By eliminating the face, Burns removes a viewer's natural instinct to form a personal connection with the subjects. This lack of human identity creates an environment where the objectification of the feminine form is inevitable.
