Pixar Franchises in Infographics
27 jun 2013 11:00
We decided to also look back, at the Pixar franchises that came before it. And because everyone loves math and graphs, we decided to do so via infographics. We examine the difference between a bug’s life and A Bug’s Life, how Brave’s Princess Merida resembled Game of Thrones’ Stark kids, what Wall-E was really about, the breakdown of ingredients in Ratatouille’s ratatouille, and more.

Gun vs. Sword: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
27 jun 2013 10:30

Much to the dismay of screenwriters, movies scripts aren't always set in stone. They are often like living objects constantly evolving during the filming process. Some films, like Jaws and Annie Hall, don't even have a finished script when the cameras start to roll. Actors and actresses are regularly ad libbing, improvising or going off-script while reciting their lines. Sometimes the directors hate it - other times they love it. Occasionally the improved lines become immortalized as some of the most memorable in cinema history. Check out these 32 great unscripted scenes - you may be surprised at how many of your favorite lines were off-the-cuff.

7 Real Concerns Men Should Have Before Going on Vacation
26 jun 2013 22:47
It’s summertime, which means you’ll probably take a week off for vacation to relax. But a vacation can be anything but relaxing. A new British survey has found men’s biggest concern before going on holiday (as those wacky Brits call it) is getting rid of their beer belly (which, as we all know, is false). This fear is misplaced, however, because there are plenty of other matters men need to fret over before packing and heading out for some R and R:

Rosario Dawson Makes Like Rihanna and Shaves Half Her Head
26 jun 2013 22:44
This is one trend we don’t get, but hey, celebs are all about it and they’re the ones (allegedly) setting the style rules. Actress Rosario Dawson, who sports a lush, thick mane of glossy dark hair, has shaved half her head — a look we’ve also seen on Rihanna and Jenna Jameson, to name only a few. As you can see from the photo, Dawson has thinned her mane and sheared off a good portion of it. It’s a punk rock look. She was spotted with her new ‘do, casually flipped to one side, while on set of her new film ‘Finally Famous.’ (Yes, that’s Chris Rock in the background. He does not, for the record, have a half-shaved head. He’s just close-cropped.) While Dawson is gorgeous and can take a lot of style risks and liberties, we’re still baffled about why the stars are doing this. Is there some need to be “punk rock” that truly took off when Miley Cyrus decided that chopping off her hair was the edgy and cool thing to do? (God help us when Miley is the yardstick by which hair trends are measured.) Regardless, it’s just hair and it grows back. We hope.

Miley Cyrus Wore Her Underwear to Talk to Jimmy Kimmel & it got Weird
26 jun 2013 22:42
Miley Cyrus made Jimmy Kimmel very uncomfortable on his own talk show last night (June 25), arriving in high-waisted underwear, a crop top, a jacket and some thigh-high boots. As you do. Then she talked about the “symbolism” in her music video ‘We Can’t Stop.’ SPOILER ALERT: It’s not really symbolism. After some stilted conversation between the host and his guest, Kimmel asked about her bizarre music video and the twisted imagery used throughout. Miley admitted that it was “based on true events” and a series of parties she’s thrown or attended, but that it’s also chock-full of symbolism too: While she just thought the french fry skull was cool, the taxidermied deer in sunglasses standing in front of several mirrors represents the kids. Even though it’s not a taxidermied baby goat. (What?) “You know, it’s like you’re feeling judged and then here’s this scrawny deer that to me just seems so sweet, and he seems like he would be judged, and so this is him looking at himself in the reflection,” she said, making us wonder how much pot “salvia” she smoked before she got there. “He’s got himself all swagged up, he’s trying to be something that he’s not, but he has to remember he can’t be judged.” As for that Miley-on-doll action, she’s wearing a necklace that says “doll” and she’s making out with a doll-version of herself so therefore … metaphor? Also, the dude eating bread is “symbolic for money.” Or munchies. Or something. And just in case you weren’t impressed by Miley (who has been trying way too hard to make fashion statements lately), check out the video below where she talks about her buddy Snoop Lion and find out why they get along. Hint: It doesn’t involve salvia.

Everyone has a Cameo in Bonnie McKee’s Video for ‘American Girl’
26 jun 2013 22:35
If you don’t know Bonnie McKee, it’s probably because you’re not famous. Because, seriously, it seems like she knows everyone who’s anyone in Hollywood. In fact, she knows them all so well, she was able to get them to appear in the video for her recent release ‘American Girl’ — which we can pretty much guarantee will be stuck in your head ‘Call Me Maybe’-style for the rest of the summer. It helps that McKee is a songwriter, and a successful one at that, so she’s worked with a lot of these people before. This is the woman who gave us Taio Cruz’ ‘Dynamite,’ Katy Perry’s ‘California Gurls’ and ‘Teenage Dream,’ and Britney Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ — among many other pop hits that tend to take up residency on the looping playlist in your brain. So maybe it’s not surprising that Perry, Adam Lambert, Macklemore, Jason Derulo, Tommy Lee, everyone from ‘Fashion Police,’ KISS, Kathy Griffin, George Takei and a ton more stars were all willing to play along and be in her vid. Check out the clip above and see if you can spot them all (bonus points if you can pick out Tommy Lee).

Now That Their Gay Friends Can Marry, Kristen Bell Proposes on Twitter
26 jun 2013 22:15
Thanks to the Supreme Court, it was a big day for gay rights in America today — not only can California resume marrying gay couples, the federal government must now bestow gay married couples the same list of 1000+ benefits that married straight couples get. This means it’s also a big day for all those celebrity couples who’ve said they wouldn’t marry until their gay compatriots had the same rights they have. First up? Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. The couple, who’s been engaged for almost three years, told CNN in an interview last August that they do want to marry, but not until everyone has the right to do so. Bell, who recently gave birth to a baby daughter with Shepard said, “I don’t believe in standing in the way of love, and I want to stand up for that right. If someone wants to commit their life to another person, why would I not bolster that argument?” Shepard went so far as to say that, for them, having a wedding before marriage was a right all Americans (especially those who would be invited to theirs) enjoyed “would just be tacky.” But with today’s new ruling, it seems that wedding bells will soon ring for the two. Shortly after she heard the news, the ‘Veronica Mars’ star tweeted this adorable proposal.

Reporter Caught Dropping Multiple F-Bombs On Air
26 jun 2013 22:09
As you could maybe surmise from the “multiple f-bombs” in the headline, this video contains NSFW language. We would suggest, however, that it is worth watching, for the look on the news anchor’s face when it cuts back to her after hearing not one, but two f-bombs in the segment that just aired. The funniest part, though, is that the whole thing wasn’t even supposed to be on air, so this is more of an easily preventable editing gaffe than anything else. Ohhh, it is so glorious.

Seth Rogen, James Franco assassinate Kim Jong-Un in The Interview
26 jun 2013 21:54
According to a recent interview, Seth Rogen and his This Is The End (our review) co-writer Evan Goldberg have finished writing, and plan to start shooting The Interview in October, with James Franco co-starring. “It’s about two journalists that try to assassinate the president of North Korea while interviewing him,” Rogen told us at last night’s premiere of his new movie This Is the End. “It’s Kim Jong-un,” Rogen dished. “Literally King Jong-un in the movie. We figured it’s North Korea, you might as well make it Kim Jong-un.” “James and Seth play reporters who get an interview with the dictator of North Korea and the CIA asks them to kill him,” Rogen’s Interview producer pal Evan Goldberg added. “They’re going to play a–holes.” [E!] The playing-themselves thing seems to have worked out pretty well in This is the End, which has almost doubled its profit already thus far, so why not apply it to the dictator of North Korea? His dad loved movies, maybe Jong-Un will even agree to be in it. He could play a coke-addled, blowjob-getting version of himself like Michael Cera in This is the End. Or maybe play against type by hilariously not executing people. Like, maybe some guy comes up and insults Kim Jong-Il and Kim Jong-Un just laughs and slaps him on the back and gives him a big roast beef sandwich. OR, since This is the End worked so well, maybe the plot could be that boys hole up in James Franco’s house to smoke weed during a North Korean invasion. Green Dawn, they could call it. Really, the possibilities are endless. http://www.eonline.com/news/426258/james-franco-and-seth-rogen-going-to-north-korea-to-kill-kim-jong-un-in-new-movie

Latest Movie Trailer: The Counselor, English language teaser

“If your definition of a friend is someone who will die for you, then you don’t have any friends.” I see Cormac McCarthy doesn’t subscribe to the same philosophy as the writers of Prometheus, Oblivion, The Town… How will an action movie even work if minor characters aren’t willing to sacrifice their lives for the good of the plot/leads??? I guess we’ll find out. Also: Trailer editors. Notice how much more effective the “sproing” sound at the beginning was in creating tension than the cheesy ass “BRAAAAHM” sound effects toward the end? Come on, guys, Inception was three years ago.

The 10 Most Terrifying Stephen King GIFs
26 jun 2013 21:44
Unlike movies based on Stephen King’s often-magnificent novels and short stories, which range from excellent (The Shining, Stand by Me, The Shawshank Redemption) to not-the-intended-kind-of horrific (pretty much everything after The Green Mile), the author’s small-screen adaptations have been mostly terrible. Or maybe I’m still angry about ABC’s mid-2000s miniseries Kingdom Hospital, which King didn’t write, but developed…terribly, at that. Under the Dome, which premiered last night on CBS, hopes to be (and is) a smidge better than Kingdom or, say, the 1997 Shining miniseries, which — considering it stars Hank from Breaking Bad, as well as Jeff Fahey and Mike Vogel, and was written by the super-talented Brian K. Vaughn — shouldn’t be hard. Also, an hour-long special on the creepy kid from Children of the Corn eating popcorn would be more entertaining than the 1997 Shining miniseries. Anyway, in honor of Dome, here are the 10 most terrifying GIFs from cinematic adaptations of King’s work.

New Mind-Bending Illusion of People Scaling a Building
26 jun 2013 14:04
Argentine artist Leandro Erlich is at it again with another interactive installation that gives off the illusion that participants are sitting on the edge of a windowsill, dangling off a ledge, and scaling the side of a building. Similar to his three-dimensional piece from last year, this one (known as Dalston House) invites visitors to participate in the illusionary fun. It allows people young and old to playfully swing, leap, and perform their death-defying stunts all from the safety of the ground. By situating the facade of a Victorian house on the floor and placing an enormous mirror over it at a 45° angle, those that partake in the fun are given the opportunity to see themselves in incredibly daring positions. It's not everyday (if ever) that you're cartwheeling from one second-story window to the next or taking a nap on the outer edge of a window. As part of Beyond Barbican, Dalston House is currently on display on a vacant lot on Ashwin Street in East London and open to the public for FREE through August 4, 2013.

Iconic Eyeglasses Perfectly Symbolize Famous Personalities
26 jun 2013 12:57
Wearing glasses is a great way to express your own personal style. Choosing frames can be quite the process, but with the perfect pair, they can become a part of your unique identity. Italian multimedia designer and art director Federico Mauro recently explored this defining fashion sense through a series of posters entitled Famous Eyeglasses. The minimalist artwork features basic pairs of glasses and sunglasses worn by many stars across the decades, including Elton John, Elvis Presley, The Blues Brothers, Sofia Loren, and Malcolm X. Even on a plain background with no owner in site, viewers will find themselves quickly identifying each celebrity based solely on the iconic eyewear. From colorful heart-shaped shades to pointy horn-rimmed spectacles, the notable objects illustrate a wide variety of dispositions and personal preferences. As fashion trends come and go, it's incredible to see how the eclectic choices of famous people across the globe have come to define personalities as well as certain generations.

New Origami Street Art by Mademoiselle Maurice
26 jun 2013 12:42
As a part of the 2013 Artaq Festival, french artist Mademoiselle Maurice presented three new pieces of paper street art in the city of Angers, France. The colorful installations were made of 30,000 pieces of origami with the help of local school kids, adults or “leisure centers’” residents. All the folded components were prepared a couple of months before the festival during the weekly workshops organized by Mademoiselle Maurice seeking to “deepen the link between individuals who form that human network [to] which we belong and [that] we frequent every day.” The Saint-Maurice cathedral was adorned with two installations—a geometric pattern on the front gate and a rainbow of origami on the front steps. A third installation, a massive origami mural, was placed on the banks of the Maine river. Would you like to see these in your city?
