A GIF Of A Russian Kid Dancing Set To Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky'
13 jun 2013 19:00
Here’s what happened… Last week Cajun Boy posted a video of a sunglasses-wearing kid dancing his heart out inside a Russian disco. Then I stumbled across a GIF of it. Then I watched the GIF for five straight minutes. Then I closed the tab. Then I opened the tab back up. Then I watched it for another 10 minutes. Then I opened up my video editing software and copied and pasted it a million times, and laid the whole thing over the song “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk. (Similar to the GIF loop videos I’ve made before.) Then I uploaded the video to YouTube, and I watched it 200 times over the next few days. And now I’m sharing it with you. Not to toot my own horn here, but I really think this video is a more powerful anti-depressant than anything Big Pharma will ever cook up in a lab, maybe even more powerful than dogs riding in cars. You are very welcome.

Arrested Development Meets Street Fighter In Awesome Game Parody
13 jun 2013 18:59
File this under “awesome fake things made by the internet that need to become a reality like yesterday.” From the guy who brought you Lego Breaking Bad comes a not-real-but-should-be YouTube preview of an arcade game that allows you to pit Bluths against Bluths in a battle to the huge mistake and even tag in guest stars for ultimate gaming/pop culture/Arrested Development nerd pleasure. (I won’t spoil the guest appearances in the vid but you won’t be disappointed.) All the jokes and scenery are S1-S3, which is kind of a nice change of pace with all the season four discussion going around. The important thing is that with all the resources at the internet’s disposal this should be a fully functional thing I have mastered all the combos to by this time next week.

Movie Trailer: The 300: Rise of an Empire
13 jun 2013 18:56
Seven years after Zack Snyder slo-mo’d our faces off in 2006′s The 300 (eight by the time this actually comes out), 300: Rise of an Empire, which Laremy’s curse pushed back from a summer 2013 to a spring 2014 release, is back to clean up the remaining scraps of demand that hasn’t already been exhausted by the 15 previous movies that look exactly like it. Directed by Noam Murro, which I’m not even sure is a real name, it tells the story of Whoselah and Whathisstopheles, and their epic battle over whether to cover Greece in the gold curtain rods and shiny face piercings sweeping the great real estate empire of Persia, where all the evil people identify themselves by being grotesque and weird. Something like that. Honestly, I sorta zoned out halfway through. The best part about this for me was Eva Green being in it, because it reminded me to do an image search for Eva Green. My God does that woman have a fantastic attitude about getting naked.

Ronda Rousey Gives The Geek Squad A Receipt
13 jun 2013 18:55
I’m not 100% sure why this video exists, but it’s one of my fantasies given life. A lady needs help from (an approximation of) The Geek Squad, those guys who stand in the back of a Best Buy and only help fix your computer if you’ve got three weeks and three times as much money as a computer costs. It’s like the DMV for computers. They don’t help her, of course, because they are SOBs, and suddenly RONDA ROUSEY appears out of nowhere and starts f**king them up. OKAY, COOL. Video is after the jump. If you’re like me and spent too much of your life working in a Best Buy (Quarterly All-star, holla) and/or love watching Ronda Rousey annihilate nerds, you’ll love it.

Does The Rock have an Under Armour sponsorship?
13 jun 2013 18:54
The Rock's reality show, The Hero, has its second episode tonight on TNT, and I thought this was as good time a time as any to put out to you the reader a question that's been on our minds for some time now: has The Rock run out of actual shirts? Because, as you can see on the following pages, he appears to be wearing the same Under Armour rash guard in at least two separate movies, and in his TV show. Now, I know it's tempting to just think "Haha, The Rock wears nothing but spandex baby tees so no one forgets that he's buff, lol!" and then dismiss it and go on about your day. But before the lollercopter lands I want you to think about the historical precedent here. Has there been an actor before The Rock who could dictate his own wardrobe? And not in an "is it cool if I wear this jacket" kind of way, but in a "my contract specifies that my character has to wear this sponsor-approved athletic apparel" kind of way. Nike revolutionized the shoe business by sponsoring individual athletes in the 80s. Is Under Armour revolutionizing the spandex rashguard industry by sponsoring actor/wrestlers in the 21st century? Mark my words, friends, at this rate, one day a wrestler will be elected president, and companies will scramble for the right to put their logo on his do-rag.

PETA Teams Up With MMA Fighters For Online Game, 'Cage Fight'
13 jun 2013 18:53
The controversial animal rights group launched an online video game this week that allows you to play as UFC Middleweight Jake Shields (who is fighting Tyron Woodley at UFC 161 this weekend), former UFC middleweight and welterweight Aaron Simpson (currently in the World Series of Fighting) or Tachi Palace Fights Featherweight Champion Georgi Karakhanyan as you take on “a secret underground animal testing ring”. If there are three things that I love, they are MMA fights, helping defenseless animals (without acting like a-holes and defeating the purpose of your efforts) and wasting a ton of time by playing an 8-bit video game. So on this occasion, I am happy to say, “Well done, PETA”. Now grab yourself a bowl of Doritos and a giant Mountain Dew, and get ready for hours of gaming.

Roy Nelson Still Confident About His Contract Ahead Of UFC 161
13 jun 2013 18:50
We’re just two days away from the UFC 161 Pay-Per-View event, live from Winnipeg, Manitoba, as the struggling UFC Bantamweight division has left us without a title fight, and instead with a co-main event that features Rashad Evans taking on Dan Henderson and “Big Country” Roy Nelson facing “Michael” Stipe Miocic. the biggest news involving UFC 161 is the contract situation of Nelson, as he wants to be paid significantly more than the $24,000 base amount that he currently receives just for showing up. Big Country’s contract is up after this fight, and the popular assumption is that UFC President Dana White stuck the No. 5-ranked heavyweight in this meaningless match because he refused to sign the extension that the UFC offered. That, of course, led to White dubbing Nelson “the smartest guy on Earth” and a “f*cking genius”, which Nelson took as a compliment. Yesterday, Nelson also admitted that he thinks Dana White doesn’t like him for an equally flattering reason. “I think he’s star-struck,” Nelson (19-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC), who has been criticized by White for everything from his ragged, everyman appearance to his negotiating tactics, told USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “Some people get flustered when a bigger star is in the room.”

Creative Dog Grooming. Wow!

The National Association of Professional Creative Groomers was founded in 2009, and provides the opportunity for some deviant dog grooming competitions. I being an animal lover, still have a few concerns on the coloring, blow drying and decorations having a negative effect on the dogs, but the association claims to use health safe products, and provide animals with utmost care. Let's check out some of their work, it's actually kind of cool.

Man-O-War Are Natures Artists!
13 jun 2013 17:44

Aaron Ansarov is a retired military photographer who has recently turned his attention to a very interesting creature called the Portuguese man-o-war. This animal resembles a jellyfish but actually consists of individual organisms called zooids. Scientists don't know much about it's life because it's impossible to connect tracking devices to this gelatinous marine animal. Aaron started collecting them on the shores of Florida and found that when he puts the men-o-war on his light table and slides them over the surface, they produce magnificent patterns and colors. After that he photoshops the image to have a mirror reflection of the first half making it a complete and proportional piece of art. What a creative and unique collection. If you look closely you can spot different things, such as animal faces, or even people...

Here Are The Opening Credits To 'Mad Men' Made Even More 60s
13 jun 2013 16:42
This has been around for a while, but until today I — a Mad Men obsessive — had never seen it, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to share it, especially at the end of a slow day. So here’s designer/illustrator Paul Rogers’ take on the Mad Men opening credits sequence. "I’ve been thinking about adding some motion pieces to my portfolio and here’s the first one, a re-design of the opening credits for Mad Men. I enjoy the show, but the titles have bugged me from the start. It seems to me that they missed an opportunity for a good update of classic film and television titles from the early 1960s." Personally, I like the opening credits just fine as they are, but this reinterpretation is still quite cool.

Donald Trump And A 'Modern Family' Writer Engage In Epic Twitter Feud
13 jun 2013 16:39
Like every other reasonable person on the planet, I can’t stand Donald Trump because he’s an idiotic, hateful little sh*tmonger whose toupee I wouldn’t wipe my ass with. I really hate giving him any attention at all, except when it’s because he just got FACED in a Twitter feud with a “lightweight” writer of that “boring” Modern Family. Danny Zuker is his name, and he is so good in his ongoing Twitter feud with Trump that I’m totally willing to forgive the fact that he was one of the people behind the American version of Coupling. The topic is China. The angle: Trump’s hypocrisy. TO THE TWEETS:

Dave Grohl Is No Fan Of Singing Competition Reality TV ShowS

You see, this is why Dave Grohl may actually be our Lord and Savior: in an interview with Delta Sky magazine, naturally, Grohl sounds off on the proliferation of singing competition reality TV shows, saying that such shows are “destroying the next generation of musicians.” “When I think about kids watching a TV show like American Idol or The Voice, then they think, ‘Oh, okay, that’s how you become a musician, you stand in line for eight f*cking hours with 800 people at a convention center and then you sing your heart out for someone and then they tell you it’s not f*cking good enough,’” Grohl said in the interview. “I swear to God, if my daughter walked up onstage and sang her heart out and some f*cking billionaire looked at her and said, ‘No, I’m sorry you’re not any good,’ I’d f*cking throttle that person, I swear to God. Who the f*ck are you to say what’s good or bad?” I don’t know about you, but I’d pay good money to watch Dave Grohl and Simon Cowell duke it out in a steel cage. Good money.

The Definitive History Of Songs Of The Summer 1994-2012
13 jun 2013 16:24
"Get Lucky" is the song of the summer. It's already been proclaimed by us media elites, so deal with the fact that Daft Punk (really, Pharrell) will be the musical touchstone of the Summer of 2013. But what has happened to past songs of the summer? I decided to go back to 1994 (pre-1994 I mostly listened to Weird Al and my dad's Jackson Browne 8-tracks) to look at the cultural impact of the songs that really captured the essence of each summer, as well as take a look at where the artist who performed each is now and inject a personal memory, Klosterman-style. Of note, there's no mathematical formula for determining a song of the summer. Rather it's just the song that best captures the zeitgeist of the moment, as determined by yours truly. That means the song that was on MTV a lot (when I was a kid) or played in bars a lot (as an adult). Billboard ratings, friends' input, timing of the release (May-June is ideal) and my own beer-addled memory play a role but I'm the Queen of Hearts here -- the final decision is arbitrary and mine alone. However, feel free to register your displeasure in the comments.

Turkish Protesters Deliver a Rousing ‘Les Miserables’ Performance
13 jun 2013 15:56
Anti-government protesters in Turkey are looking for some Academy Award-sized help in their fight. The Occupy Gezi movement recently laid out their case by singing the song ‘Do You Hear the People Sing?’ from the Oscar-winning movie ‘Les Miserables.’ The video has quickly become an internet sensation and even caught the attention of one of the film’s stars, Russell Crowe, who, ironically, played a villainous police officer in the movie. Crowe urged everyone to remain safe when he took to his Twitter account to address the situation:

11 GIFs That Prove Parkour Is a Really Bad Idea
13 jun 2013 15:44
If you’ve never heard of parkour, it’s basically when someone jumps and swings and flips on things like brick walls, cement steps and metal railings. Crazy, right? And people only use their superhuman skills to pull off these stunts; no equipment is allowed. So let’s think about this– if you’re rolling down cement steps or trying to leap over a car, things can’t always go smoothly, right? Naw, man! Fails are everywhere in the parkour game, and we have some cringe-worthy GIFs to prove it. This is basically a warning to stay far away from parkour, although these brave efforts are super impressive. Ouch.

‘Convos With My 2-Year-Old’ Returns, And This Time It’s About Cookies

It’s time for everyone’s favorite grown man acting like a toddler — ‘Convos With My 2 Year Old’ is back with a new episode. This one is about a cookie. We must say, we admire this dad’s ability to keep his daughter from emitting that very special high-pitched war shriek specific to two-year-olds who are insisting on having another cookie. A skill we have yet to master. Apparently confusing them with big words and then just giving them the cookie seems to do the trick.

A Candid Look At The Lives Of Exhausted Japanese Workers
13 jun 2013 15:20
It’s no wonder that when faced with their nightmarish reality, Japanese commuters prefer the deep respite of sleep to block out the world and pressures around then. The truth is that for many in Tokyo & it’s surrounding suburbs, a 60 hour working week isn’t that uncommon or unexpected. Compare that to somewhere like Australia, where the average working week is 38.5 hours and you can see why people have cram their sleeping patterns into their daily commute. Why do people will compelled to work such long hours? It’s partly cultural, but also due to supply and demand, failure to go above and beyond will see someone happily step into your role doing more hours for less pay such is the competition in the workplace. The capital of Japan, Tokyo is by far the world’s most populous metropolitan area. Approximately 13 million people live within the city radius, that’s roughly 6,029 individuals per sq kilometre. With figures like that, there’s little room for a breath or respite and why workers feel compelled to work such long hours to continue to guarantee their financial security. Nicholas Barker has just release a film titled ‘Tokyo Dreams’ where he elegantly documents and examines the sleeping patterns of some of the hardest working individuals in the developed work.

Futuristic Orbs Hover Over A Post-Apocalyptic World
13 jun 2013 15:18
When it comes to self-autonomous orbs floating along the uninhabitable streets of a post-apocalyptic world, we’re not talking about the latest sci-fi movie from Hollywood, we’re describing the unique work of Masakatsu Sashie. He’s the gifted Japanese painter behind this series of spherical structures that hover over a barren landscape once formerly known as Earth. His vision of our future is in stark contrast to how the German’s back in 1900 perceived our future selves. He ingeniously comprises each orb using elements from modern-day society, our love of commerce, the architecture that surrounds us and the consumables we demand. A metaphor that if we focus purely on our desires of greed, wealth and convenience - we do so to the potential detriment of the environment and world in which we live. You can see more of Sashie’s futurist artworks via his website or join the ongoing discuss about his work here

Yubitsume: The Art Of Slicing Your Own Pinkie Finger Off
13 jun 2013 15:14
Excel within the ranks of the Yakuza (Japan’s oldest major criminal network and akin to the Mafia) your every need, desire and want can be catered for. But if you fail and bring disgrace to the family, you will be subjected to the rather painful practice known as “Yubitsume”. It’s a tradition where gang members have to physically slice off their own little finger. Why the finger? There’s actually a twisted logic to the practice, the removal of the little finger actually makes it impossible to hold a strong grip on a samurai sword. As a result of this defect, you’re weakened in battle thereby forcing you to rely on protection from your boss / leader. It’s the ultimately tribute and punishment to authority. It’s not an unusual occurrence either, many Yakuza members now wear prosthetic pinkies (each costs around $2,500 – $3,000) regularly having them repainted and maintained to match the seasons and blend in with the rest of the arm. Whilst others might not notice the difference, both you and the Yakuza boss are acutely aware of your shortcomings and indeed who holds the real power. Here a a couple of examples we hope you enjoy!
